The Lorax 5.13a — Squamish BC
🪨 Route - The Lorax, The Monastery, Cheakamus Canyon, Squamish BC
📍 Crag - maps.google.com/maps?q=49.90277,-123.15652
🌲 Approach - After enjoying scenic views from the Sea-to-Sky Hwy regardless of which direction you are coming from, navigate to the Conroy Creek FSR (about a 20 min drive North of Squamish): maps.google.com/maps?q=49.906373,-123.162076 - Park in the lot next to the highway and begin the approach by walking past a large yellow gate at the SE end of the lot. Head up a short hill to the gym like crag known as Electric Ave. Say hi to all the doggies and kids running wild and continue along a well established trail at the south end of this crag. Continue up this steep trail for about 15 minutes. The Monastery sits high on the SE side of Mt. Chek, continue past the crag for 5 minutes for an enjoyable 360 summit view.
🚗 Special Parking Notice - Do not parking in front of the yellow gate in the lower lot; If there are no spaces, drive further up the Conroy Creek FSR and park in a larger open campground parking area. Be courteous and leave space for large logging trucks (or emergency vehicles) which occasionally come ripping down the FSR.

Sali Bong V7, Squamish [Uncut]
มุมมอง 338ปีที่แล้ว
🪨 Boulder - Sali Bong, Grand Wall Boulders, Squamish A few delicate slab moves lead to a dramatic throw for the lip. Marc Bourdon's 3rd edition of Squamish Bouldering has this climb listed as a V9, however, I am guessing this original line used some slab trickery to continue directly up the blank face. This leftward trending variation (assuming I climbed it "correctly") is listed as V7 in Marc ...

Hog Wild V5, Squamish [Uncut]
มุมมอง 219ปีที่แล้ว
🪨 Boulder - Hog Wild, The Farm, North Wall Boulders, Squamish A wonderful slopey traverse finishing with a big move to the lip and a fun mantle. The traverse is certainly the most technical and involved part of the line, but be sure to scope out the end or your send go might be spoiled. Such wonderfully textured granite on this one, really fun! Received 4 out of 5 stars in Marc Bourdon's 3rd ed...

The Cutting Edge V6, Squamish [Uncut]
มุมมอง 203ปีที่แล้ว
🪨 Boulder - The Cutting Edge, Apron Boulders, Squamish BC My first outdoor V6 and a fun block! While it looks like quite a slopey traverse, many of the moves are supported by key early foot holds and a positive heel hook. The boulder transitions quickly to compression moves and positive meat hooking action before the final mantle and slab. A stand-out line for the grade and conveniently located...
Beautiful and inspiring, in the many times I've made it to Squamish I've never been strong enough to attempt a route here. I look forward to testing myself here someday soon!
Best of luck when you do!
Great video, congrats on the send. Special route :)
Got pumped watching this. Beautiful line.
first time watching you climb this route not from the belayer's stance ;) too bad i forgot to send you that frog video i took for b-roll. What a stunning video, Avery, way to go
Awe man, I forgot about the frog. 100% would have made the cut…
Great footage.. congrats on the send!
Thanks Whelm!
Best video yet! The rig footage is so smooth
This is sick! The rig footage actually came out really well!
Thanks again for the help man! Couldn’t have made this without you
levelled up 1000% amazing job on the rig, post production, and a re-send of the climb mid shoot ;) stoked for more soon
good things seem to happen when we go play with cameras
Thanks again for all the help 🙏
Sound and video editing is so good! Loved it, and I might have to rewatch a couple times to steal beta at some point haha.
Yesss, I can’t wait to see you on this 💪
Some of the best local Squamish content there is
Yo awesome video! Sweet to see a beta breakdown of a local route
Loved everything about this! Congrats on your first 13b and v10!!! What an accomplishment 👏🏽👏🏽
Good job! Nice video
Well done. I actually did the first ascent of serendipity, and watching your video brings some good memories.
Cheers! Thanks for contributing a great route.
the video plus the art is so sweet!
💞Wow💚💚💚🤍💚💚💚💚
honestly great video. This always looks daunting when you look up to it from the titanic area. will be definitely trying it now
Thanks Scott, good luck on it!
Really cool to see your projecting process broken down.
i found this climb the first time i went bouldering in squamish and its my overarching goal, i think I have a shot at it next year if I keep getting stronger, but even then it would be a pretty big challenge
Excellent video, i have to check that heel hook
light work🤧 nice analysis
Another top notch vid (it helps a lot that we climb around the same grade!). Thanks Avery.
Thanks man! Really appreciate the encouragement 🙌
haha yes, there are a lot of clips of v12+ climbers flashing our grade range on TH-cam which is super impressive but not always the most helpful/interesting to watch 😅
@@mabsoule Exactly! I love watching world class climbers climb, but really appreciate vids like this that have great production at reasonable grades.
do I see new camera shots 😅
maybe 👀
kit lens though... you haven't seen nothing yet 😏
was fun to cheer on the send : )
Looks great. Thanks for the excellent vid with different methods. Will check it out next time I'm in Chek.
your voice is so relaxing
Awesome video. When was this shot? I want to try this, but Squamish seems wet lately.
Indeed, winter bouldering in Squamish is so tricky weather wise, often a soggy mess but once in awhile it's the best friction of the year. Early January this year was very cold but nice and grippy, not as friendly since then. Good luck if you do find a window to get on it! These clips are from the end of February last year (2023). Hoping to post some more recent stuff soon.
so epic
😩
Great vid. Really good commentary!
Yesss, sweet job with the edit!!
I always appreciate the brief history at the beginning, crediting the developer of the route, & location & grade details. I'm always enamoured with the scenery! Changing the filming views from different orientations nicely complements the detailed explanations for each move of the route. You make it look easy :)
the shaky footage is just a taste of what's to come with the filming process : ) nice video!
Don't worry about the shaky footage, the climbing still looked super cool and I appreciate the nice storytelling
Awesome descriptive beta vid. I'll put this on my list for my next Squamish trip.
Super cool route! The commentary really adds some colour and a nice idea of what the experience is actually like. Nice video
those were amazing conditions for your send! glad I had the honour of the send belay. Great video and great sends by you both
Prime climbing conditions, not very prime belay conditions ;)
Thanks for the catches 😊
ur channel is sick
Awesome video🎉 I thoroughly enjoyed watching you climb through the screen and in person.
foot placement at 1:11 was really good, must be an amazing climber 😂
can confirm 😉
person who named this boulder didn't think about youtube video titles hey
fr
Great vid and story telling! Really enjoyed the closeups and small details. I'm psyched to try it now!
Thanks Alex, best of luck on it!
smooooth
Great video! I'm moving to Squamish long term in two weeks, can't wait... This is now on my list!
Hey man great video keep it up! also snake taint is such a friggin classic!
Thanks man, really appreciate your videos as well. Zap crack was incredibly inspiring!
I am considering trying it this year, good video. How tall are you btw
Thanks Steve, best of luck on it if you do give it a go! I'm 182cm, Owen is similar.
So wholesome.
Oh damn. I just realized that there is only 165 views here. Well made video, so easy to watch. Keep up the good work <3
* btw it showed in my YT feed right next to Mike Boyd, so hopefully youtube algorithm sees, and likes your work :)
Thank you! Really appreciate the comment :) This first edit was a trial run for the whole youtube thing but I enjoyed making the video and am pretty stoked to keep at it.
@@mikolajkolano2658 Interesting, the yt algorithm is still a bit of a black box to me but I'll take being placed in feeds beside a channel like that!
tongues out for the sends
