caustic soda AKA lye has always been used to make soap. it was discovered first. everything else is newer technology. newer isnt better. its just cheaper to produce. great video!

The FDA simplifying to confuse is so fda. requiring soap to have lye, when the layman considers soap something that cleans, is crazy.

The "For Him" bundle is absolutely awesome. They replaced the charcoal soap with Cedarwood and Pine which is excellent. They're the best deal in cold process soap in Canada. They have colours now.

I just ordered 3 bars of Sudsy Bear and its been 4 days and it still hasnt shipped and they haven't answered email either ...so dont know whats up with them

What if you add too much lye? How do you know if the soap you get is free of lye leftovers?

Chemically speaking you cannot make soap without an alkali. This is because the alkali mixes with the fatty ACIDS and neutralizes them that is what soap is the salted form fat molecules + glycerin. Theoretically any alkali will do so long as it is concentrated enough to neutralize all the fatty acids. That being said lye/NaOH/sodium hydroxide/Caustic Soda(whatever you choose to call it) is the most common alkali used.

Lye and Alkali are not the same thing, there are many alkalis that are not called lye.

Rambling confusing

Once the soap has completely cured to the proper Ph there is no longer any active lye remaining. It performs the chemical reaction (saponification) with the fats but is not an actual ingredient in the final soap. Glycerin is a byproduct of the process, without lye there would be no glycerin . Any melt and pour base was made using lye. There may be other ways to produce a skin cleansing agent but it won’t be “soap” without lye.

Only problem I have with this is the anti persperant. I sweat lot and after a while I can smell the B.O itll also leak down my arm as well but other than that it works

You need a lot of ashes to produce saponification reaction.

I LOVE the summer citrus deoderant! Hands down my favorite and I'm a female. I can't stop taking off the lid to smell it. I don't know about the soap but i'm very drawn to the deoderant. It doesn't smell like pine sol to me .

I feel like it semantics to say that detergent is not soap. It's true but if you can wash with it and make it into a bar they are pretty much the same.

Their customer service is a JOKE! WAS a customer for several months. My last 2 transactions were a disaster and when I inquired, it took several days for the first response no one ever responded on the second one. A day AFTER it was finally delivered they sent me tracking info! I realize people make mistakes but you have to own it and fix it..they didn't. Go humor yourself and try to find a ''contact us'' link on their site...they don't have one (at the time of this post). They make you dig to get their contact info so they don't have to deal with you. Dapper Yankee, The Black Stuff and Grizzly Naturals have better soaps and GREAT customer service. Shame on you Sudsy Bear!

I have been having a reaction to the Duke Cannon “Gun Smoke” type bar. I’ve isolated it down to this soap. I am not a guy that has reactions to anything I am pretty much down for whatever and don’t have many issues. This however is messing my skin upppppp.

The scents are wildly different and i really like squatchs scent but their quality continues to dip. Last 2 bars I got smell like cheap lye based soap with a splash of citrus/pine. Sudsy for the win.
