    It’s a camera for very very few. It will not sell well. At the moment in the UK we can pick up a G5 with 12-60 lens for 50% less than the price of this hobbled camera, leaving plenty of change for a nice little prime lens while still saving money. Yes it’s a bigger camera but it’s also got a grip and articulating screen and much much more. It can even use a flash. If you want a really small camera, then a 1” or M4/3 sensor camera may be had for a fraction of the cost and will give great results for most people. In six month’s time, the S9 will probably be sold for a very deep discount, probably cheaper than the current S5 kit offer which is US$1245 including 20% sales tax or £999 UK inclusive. There is also a 10% discount off that if bought direct off the Panasonic web site. Yes, I know that maybe the smaller size appeals but for not much more you can buy a Sony A7C with a nice Sigma prime, which is in a different league to the S9, surely.

    All I can say about this whole S9 drama, is that I can see 3-6 months from now we will see a ton of, "I Was So Wrong About the S9" type videos dropping like mad. As far as the S9 goes, I shot a feature film with the GH5 and I'm pretty confident I can do the same with the S9.

    thanks for an authentic statement. My 2 cents: I do not percieve hate about the camera. From my side I can say that this entire campaign, mainly from the content creator side opened my eyes. They had been open before, too, but this campaign was a tipping point for me. Creators I trusted and valued before - I see them in a new light now. Trust is damaged and I do not want influencers and YT to even more take this direction. That's my 2 cents, no offence. But, clearly no hate from my side nor on yet another new camera (perfectly fine a manufacturer is trying out sth new)

    • @AllThingsFilm1

  • @SkylerKing
    @SkylerKing 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't hate this camera, but I do generally agree that it's a dud, all things considered. What I mean is, Sony released the A7C a few years ago, and it is basically what the S9 is trying and failing to be. It is full frame, it is smaller than the S9, it has better specs in many areas (including no recording limit), has the articulating screen, and still manages to squeeze in a viewfinder. Currently, the price of a brand new A7c is pretty close to the price of the S9. It's the same issue with the 26mm pancake. Panasonic seems to be implying that because it's a low cost 26mm pancake lens, then "of course" being manual focus and f8 is what they had to do. Meanwhile, Nikon has the 26mm pancake that has autofocus and f2.8 and though it is more expensive than the Panasonic lens, it's still budget friendly. It makes no difference to me, personally. I'm not in the market for a compact full frame. I can definitely understand why so many people are disappointed, though.

    IMO, This drama is a combination of the 360 thing weeks before, people wanting honest reviews, media disenfranchisement, a camera that has some technical issues being reviewed by a majority of photographers that would never spend $1500 to nearly $1800 for this type of camera, the marketing of TH-camrs that need to make click bait statements , mixed messaging on whether the camera is a point and shoot TikTokers dream and at the same time wanting to be a full frame consumer grade photography camera with limitations. I watched so many videos and felt there was something different from other camera launches in the past, Felt like the Lumix marketing was trying to force a viral buzz, that now has been polarized. All for new gear and new cameras. If anything I think it is a wake up call to anyone who reviews cameras. Optics are important too, not just views!

      @@palaneproductions7357 I have a Leica Q2 and a Sony A7III with a good variety of lenses. For autofocus tracking and continuous for video, the Sony, even my old model, is likely to be far superior to the G9 and that alone is a major issue for the people who may buy the G9, whether they know it yet or not. However, I’m not particularly fussed about whether a camera if full frame or a crop sensor camera even down to 1”. I tend to favour Panasonic’s M4/3 cameras, I will admit. I would buy a Leica D-Lux8 with its 17MP [21 total] sensor and fixed f1.7 to f2.8 24-75mm equivalent pocketable camera before buying a G9. At least that has a flash. Both are overpriced compared to others that are not so pocketable, like the original G5 which is a far better camera and £500 cheaper at the moment, complete with a 20-60 lens, leaving plenty of change to buy a complementary little bright prime lens.

I think on the blackmagic you can record a proxy to the SSD. I want to know is if you can record a "rainy-day" proxy onto the internal CFEXPRESS as lowish quality h265 and then use the external SSD as your primary 12 bit BRAW... Coming from a Blackmagic 6K Pro I’m more than happy with my S5IIX. And as I already have a 7 inch Video Assist it means I have a larger monitor than even the 6K FF. AND I can record BRAW if I really needed to. But what’s most interesting is here in Australia compared to your prices, the current discount price for body only for the S5IIX and 6K FF is $2799 and $3899 respectively. So the price difference is much bigger! Over $1000! So the S5IIX choice is a much easier one.

    • @lukegphotography9081

      Oh wow, that is a huge price difference. Yeah, that makes the s5iix really a no brainer. I appreciate your input, especially because you came from the pocket pro 6k. Coming from the pocket 6k, do you use the IBIS or autofocus a lot vs what you're used to with the pocket? Thanks

    • @justinjwood
      @justinjwood ปีที่แล้ว

      As the IBIS is built in it's not even something I need to think about, compared to the additional steps needed to add it to the Blackmagic camera. And I mostly use manual focus but now that I've got the ability to turn it on, it gives me much more control over the framing of shots than just making sure everything is in focus. Especially for run and gun handheld work. But as soon as it's a stationary shot, there's no need for it so I just turn it off and control it manually. AND having it work with a speedlight for event photography the S5IIX is really the better option for me. @@lukegphotography9081

    Head to head the BM camera comes out ahead in everything but autofocus. I don’t have time to unpack it all, but XLR matters, proper timecode handling matters, a locking DC power input is a big deal, internal RAW (no external recorders to rig), BRAW which means 12-bit all intra recording with lots of latitude, and what about the BM Cloud integration on the way, for many operators that will be a big time saver, simultaneous proxy recording is a plus, CFExpress B saves time with offloads compared with SD. Etc.

      Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I could talk for an hour about the pros and cons of both. The Cinema 6K will definitely be better for the a more professional setup, not that the S5iiX can't be used professionally. It really depends on the user. I appreciate your input.

      From my research, I can't confirm that it's the same way with Blackmagic CC6K, but the S5iiX will only record to one type of media at a time. So you have to pick between SSD or SD cards. I can only assume that it will be the same way with the CC6K. Anyone is free to correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @jaredventura4219
    @jaredventura4219 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is exactly what I have been thinking for days. There are some features and discounts that change my mind when I think I have made a decision though: Does the IBIS in the S5IIX works the same while shooting braw? Does the S5IIX uses the new autofocus while shooting braw or does it changes to to one of the less reliable modes? I think I heard somewhere that it changes to area mode. I know the S5IIX is $2,200 and the BM assist $800 taking the price to around $3000, but you can get a 50mm f1.8 for the S5IIX and it only adds $50 to the price because it has a discount if you buy it as a bundle. Therefore, the price of a S5iiX for a new user like me would be $3050 and it will include the camera, a BM assist, and a full frame lens while the BMCC 6K will be around the same price with a 7artisan manual lens. I would go for the BMCC6k if the IBIS and the autofus changes in the S5iiX when using the BM video assist. If it does not, then I think I would prefer the S5IIX just in case I ever need to take good pictures.

    • @lukegphotography9081
      @lukegphotography9081 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, I completely glossed over the IBIS on the S5iiX. Thank you for mentioning that. IBIS on the S5iiX should work with the external recorder. I've never heard of any camera loosing IBIS when shooting raw. Autofocus modes shouldn't change when shooting raw either. The main mode that you'll lose phase detect is in 1080p in higher frame rates. Price wise, they are so similar that it may make the decision harder depending on deals and bundles you may find. That's why I wanted to make the video, to share my research and help others like you. I do enjoy my S5ii. The Ibis is amazing, autofocus works really well, and 2 sd card slots. But the CC6K does have some nice features. The 5 inch display, xlr ports, and internal B Raw. It really can be a tough decision.

    Just a shortcut with what you can already do with an hsl. Useless. That time should have been spent on making raw development better.

      True you could do this with hsl alone, but i feel like it wouldn't be as well defined as this mask just by selecting the color range in the HSL. Changing the color with this method is not the only thing you can do with the color singled out as a mask. You can edit/adjust the dress seperately from everything else easier, and even add texture or completely erase it.

      @@lukegphotography9081 everything you just mentioned you can still do in at 1. I dislike that time was wasted on this when more important things could have been fixed. Easiest way to see these real problems is to go check out the forums

      I assume that you are not familiar with color range selection tool in photoshop, actually Affinity’s hue live mask is more powerful tool for masking and selection than the color range.Tony Kapure has made a plug-in for photoshop, TK8, that is very similar to the new live mask features in Affinity Photo. So these are very welcomed features if you do precise selections and creat Alpha channels. The best part is that now they are also available on the IPad version.

      @@kamrankarin actually I am. Look at what you said. Easy implementation that someone did for photoshop. Why did it take seriff so long for something so simple. Answer they have bad software code from the get go.

    • @000CloudStrife

      @@kamrankarin let’s go further into this. Seriff actually has previous software with more advanced raw development than affinity. That is a huge problem.

    Thanks for explaining this tool. Not many videos on it. Would enjoy seeing a video about using tone mapping on portraits. That’s what I’ve been curious about. Appreciate the advice.

      You're very welcome. My previous video touched on that a little bit: th-cam.com/video/LboqPcgApyA/w-d-xo.html But I can do a new one specifically going over tone mapping for portraits, and one thats not 20 minutes

    Thanks, this is definitely a nice method. Hope these shortcuts help someone when masking - you can use 'D' to set the default colors back to B/W and 'X' to swap them back and forth. Also, the '[' and ']' keys make the cursor larger or smaller.
