Tips for Mounting a Continental GP 5000 TL Tubeless Tire (or any hard to fit tire for that matter)
มุมมอง 11K4 ปีที่แล้ว
The Continental GP 5000 TL is an excellent tubeless tire. But it gets a bad rap for being very hard to mount on most rims. I share three of my tips for making it a lot easier. I hope they work for you.

Flume Trail, Lake Tahoe

Revisiting the Great Flume Trail in 2018. My original video was made in 2007 using a low-res camera and a full suspension mountain bike. (th-cam.com/video/1CFSAuAGnUc/w-d-xo.html ) I figured it's time to revisit using a high res camera and a suspension less gravel bike.

Watch out these cyclist are a very angry lot
You are spamming the same replies but the thing is that he shouldn't stay behind you because you're slow like you're tripping
Impossible à faire sur une roue Mavic Carbon Cosmic pro de 50mm 🥵🥵!!!... quelque soit la méthode 🤬🤬
What was the problem? 🤔
Really? How very interesting…….😴
Fix your title, my men
Seems both bicyclists are being silly. When you encounter someone on the road, simply either (a) trade off drafting each other (whoever is following gets a 20-30% reduction in effort) or (b) ride conversationally, side by side where space permits. You sometimes meet interesting people that way. And two bicyclists are more visible to other traffic than a solo rider is. One or both of these guys is being competitive. To really compete, enter an actual race! Took me a while to grasp that there are no trophies/prizes for "winning" a training ride or commute.
*jerks* on a bike
He was just creating a little friendly competitiveness I reckon. Probably just to get a little more out of his exercise ride.
where the jerk
two idiots racing on the roads
2 jerks on bikes
He's a "jerk" because someone got butt hurt? Beta.
TWO jerks on bikes. Cammer just wanted to be the only MGIF rider.
Club: I love how you're just copy and pasting your replies to people's comments. That's all. No big deal.
There’s clearly enough room for both bikes
I was gonna go , and I had 2 work, I almost resign! 🎸❤️
Bitch to put on . Went back to conti 4000 . If I get flat while on the road at least I’ll be able to repair it 😵💫
You mentioned tips on inflation. Id love to hear’m. Thanks for the video and tips.
Great video, definitely helped me get my set on. Hours later and sore thumbs but its done!
Dont normally leave comments but felt compelled to after watching your great video. Thanks and happy cycling ;-)
love these tires lasted me 2500 miles and finally got a puncture after that long.... BUT that was a rare blowout/ large gash the sealant could not seal......but other than that they never go flat! great durbale tires all arounder......i was curious club longo what psi your run? im 58 kilos and run 80 PSI
Hi Annu. I weigh 183lbs. I run 90 to 95psi. The minimum recommended pressure by Conti on their website is 90psi. I corner hard on a Pinarello F10, so I want the extra stiffness in the sidewall. Lower than 85 psi, I find the sidewall will flex slightly in a corner, causing the bike to lean more than I expect, which is unsettling.
@@joetoocool im on 28 bonti re lites way better grip and rolling resistance...yeah i run 95 PSI now! way better better PR's faster overall ....all that bullcrap about running low psi on tubeless is nonsense....thanks for your response!! i love my F8 dogma also 55 mph downhill!!
Gold!!! The hot water and soap did the trick. Cheers !
Damn, I've tried in every possible way and it did not work...
Are you home today? I'd like to swing by so you can mount my tires? 😄
Hah. Sorry, I’m out this week, 😀
god what a douche-canoe
Screw this I’m so Mad rn
Your video gave me the confidence I needed! I struggled to the point of giving up and making my way back to innertubes. On the first I was at it for nearly 2 hours (in cold Dutch spring weather) the next one (yep my bike also has two wheels....), I did that one twice in under 30 minutes! Twice? Yeah twice.... the stupid rotation arrow was pointing in the wrong way on the first try ;)
On a side note, the directional arrow makes no difference on road tires
I have mounted these on several sets of wheels and each time I question whether it's worth it. Always a horrible experience, but I like the low rolling resistance. I never recommend them to anyone at the shop where I work, because I don't want them to hate me.
I t took me 45 minutes to get the GP 5000 TL on my rim. It was so difficult that I managed to cut up the tubeless rim tape with the tire irons. Found a great solution, the Kool Stop Tire Bead Jack. It was a lifesaver. I also let the tire sit in hot water for a while to warm it up and used a lot of soapy water. MUCH easier than using a traditional tire iron. Best $15 I have spent! Also great for tubed tires that are tight as no part of the Tire Jack goes inside the tire (no pinching tube).
took me 30 minutes per rim (Hunt Wheels) and three tire irons. Thanks for the tips.
No matter how I tried, for 3 bloody days, I could not get these 5000TLs on my Shamal 2WayFit wheels. I gave up and put tubed tires on that I had in stock, Continental Attack/Force matching pair. As for the 5000TLs, I'll put them on an older road bike with tubes in them. If I ever decide to try tubeless again, I'll get a different brand.
I need your help 😂🔝
Thank you sir! your tip with the final “mile” with the lever and holding the thumb on the part that wants to “travel” enabled me to install my first nightmare 5000gt. Tubeless.. (i used no soapy water).. now I will re-install to get the rotation right ( I’m not smart).. and figure out injecting the tubeless fluid via the core.. aces and thanks!
Good advice, however when on the road I had a puncher the sealant couldn't fix, and I inserted a tube but pinched the tube trying to mount the tire. I've since discovered a much easier tubeless tire to mount. It's made by Zipp. Never buying a Continental GP 5000 TL again.
stephen i had the same thing BUT these are still great puncture resistant tires......you will have those rare situations where you hit something huge and it will cause a large gash. i went 5000 miles before having a total flat the sealant could not fix
I have got a better way. For get that tubeless cr@p and fit a normal clincher effortlessly.
Campy rims make it hard as well.
The extra soapy water is the trick. I was struggling with my tire and my water wasn’t soapy enough. Put extra soap on and finally got it.
Great info, thanks! Can you give us tips, perhaps a video, on the sealant and floor pump?
Luis Arrondo thanks. I’ll see if I can get to it. These vids are more time consuming than I expected.
Sorry you don't have the conditioning to just drop him..which I think is what really bothers you.
Beeps: Actually, I did drop him every time. my point is - don't get in front of a rider that you know is going to be faster than you. You just force them to go around. That's all. No big deal.
Great tips. Did I see it correct that you've got Campagnolo Zonda wheels there? Thinking of making my Zonda's also tubeless with these tires. Will bee a struggle but at least it's possible.
Jan B. My rims are Campi Eurus. They are two-way by design. I have the Zondas on another bike. Since there are no spoke holes you won’t need to apply the tape. I know that many rims can be converted, but suggest you check the safety issues first.
Jan: I just saw your comment. The rims are Campi Eurus, 2-way. They are tubeless ready: no need for rim tape. I’ve converted several rims both road and MTB. The trick is to use a wide-enough tubeless rim tape. Too narrow, and the air will eventually make its way out from under the tape edge. A slightly over-sized tape is best. Stretch it as you apply it. See the video on the MuckOff web site. It’s excellent. Hope this helps.
Very helpful. Appreciated!
Almost worried about fitting these when my new carbon rims arrive. Plus the stans race sealant i've gone with says it can't be added through the valve core and has to be poured into the tyre before fully fitted! Could get messy. Any tips would be appreciated.
How did it work out for you? Spent an hour trying to get theses on carbon aero wheel set and gave up. Might give it a go today with some soapy water.
@@fikkytikkitavi I actually ended up getting a shop to do mine along with some other jobs! I never had a go myself but they used soap I believe and I also think they put the sealant in through the valve but not 100% sure! I've seen some people have heated the tyres a little but I've not tried that so can't recommend it!
I have done 3 now, all with sealant through the valve (Schwalbe sealant) no issues!
Great video - thanks for posting!
Not sure I get it buddy. I'm not sure why you're calling this guy a jerk. I mean he's not a strong rider but why is he a jerk? All he's trying to do is not unclip and keep some momentum and that bothers you? 🙄🤦♂️ If anyone is anti Roadie it's me most Roadies are a bunch of dick heads but this guy didn't do anything wrong just got under your skin maybe you should learn to chill... in some ways the guy may be a bit better than you, but just because you're heavier and you roll downhill a little faster...🤷♂️ whatever makes you feel better I suppose...
Im trying my best not to be a dick
I bet you the kind of driver that speeds up to close an opening in your lane in front of you moment someone signals they intend to enter the lane. Like you own the road in front you. Well i guess what expect, it not like dmv hb or test has chapter on road courtesy eh? 😉
The worst music ever.........
you passed him in traffic also - who is jerkonabike?
Ben: my point is - don't get in front of a rider that you know is going to be faster than you. You just force them to go around. That's all. No big deal.
