Compare to 1979 when young gun students could afford the tickets in the pit and wave the Union flag with gusto....the same people are still in the pitt as middle aged managers on 100k who have lost their voice, who can not jump, who can not wave a (wrong) flag, handed to them on the way in, too much lest they suffer an injury. Bring back home made banners, quirky hats, teddy bears and so on. Liverpool's kop has gone as much the same way.

I was playing in the orchestra on Saturday, it was a lovely night. I thought that it was incredibly unifying to see lots of different flags because to me that is what music is about. That shared ethos at a concert, of everyone in that room listening and experiencing it in their own way is quite unique. Most people on the stage at the Proms over the summer and the music played at them including the last night were from all around the world including European countries. Not to forget the European great composers featured, like Bruckner, Wagner and Faure, Ravel, Saint Saens etc throughout the season. I believe the EU flags symbolises that unity of music and the traveling nature of musicians/ shared culture which has unfortunately been a huge challenge since we left the Union (particularly on the touring front). I do believe though that we will find a solution to enable the movement of touring musicians to continue sharing music all over the globe but particularly touring Europe, showing our great British orchestras, this really does need to be addressed which is what various groups like the musicians union are campaigning for! However at the Proms, I do believe it’s wonderful to see lot’s of different flags as to me the sharing and cohesive nature of listening to music, is what the Proms are all about! Not to mention the fantastic promenading ticket cost of £8.50, which is how some family and friends attended various gigs over the summer.

Embarrassing seeing people fly the EU flag. Honestly, if you hate this country or want to fly another flag then go elsewhere. Just let people enjoy a bloody night celebrating Britishness and not dragging politics into it.

It was as always a wonderful spectacle and it was even better to show the world that most of us are European at heart.

My young grandchildren sat up and watched. It’s the first time they had heard an opera singer. It’s a wonderful celebration of music and not one which commercial tv would be interested in. Much better than x factor et al! Thank goodness the BBC has to represent all of GB, not just the commercially viable.

Though beastly brexiteers flinch and brexit blockheads sneer lets keep the EU flag flying here. Lets get Brexit undone.

It has lost it's soul with the flags becoming more important than the music.... BAN the EU flags and any other flag besides the Union Jack!

It strikes me as not only childish, but mean and spiteful to want to hijack an event traditionally intended to celebrate Britain to deluge the event with the flag of a foreign power to make a political point.

Clearly the BBC promises are worthless as usual, they were complicit in allowing the last night to be used by political activists waving EU flags.

You can literally explain the Brexit Referendum to someone by using this video and the type of person that is able to afford a ticket to the last night of the Proms.

Embarrassing to see all those EU flags being waved when the last night at the proms are there to celebrate Britishness. So to all you folk waving the blue flags, perhaps you should attend the great EU music celebration in future

Oh god what a horrible sight, what a very depressing video, a patriotic event filled with flags to an entity that what’s the nations of Europe to be states of a federation. We very much aren’t a land of hope and glory anymore which make this even more pathetic, we are a people were 50% of the population will bow to a foreign entity.

How very ironic, A song about our own land of hope and glory and a sea of EU flags which want anything but the UK to be a Land of Hope and Glory. There appeared to be a couple of 'other flags ' too.

The silence from the media today, especially the right wing outlets, over what was visually obvious last night is deafening. Almost more blue & gold than red white & blue.
