Airplane Camping in Tankwa, Karoo, ZA - Pioneer 300 & RV6

This is a beautiful spot deep in the Karoo, South Africa. There is no Signal, Water or Electricity, or even trees for birds to nest in. There is absolute silence and stars as far as the sky stretches. Bliss!!

Stellenbosch to Kersefontein Farm in RV 6

Wonderful breakfast at Kersefontein farm on the West Coast of South Africa. It is a really nice weened breakaway with lovely accommodation and the runway is in a good condition. Just look out for mud after rain and Springboks that could be roaming around on the runway.

After I fixed up the small issue with the flaps not being symmetrical I did another flight just because the weather was amazing and Cape Town was so beautiful. As you can hear on the radio I was not the only one with that idea. 00:00 Ground Run 00:49 Take Off 04:30 Reached the Ocean 08:16 Overhead Nuclear Power Plant 14:17 Turnaround Point 19:26 Downwind Leg 24:04 Final Approach

Just some fun flying, realized that my flaps are not perfectly symmetrical so I returned home, fixed it up (with the help of the AMO) and did another even more stunning flight in the afternoon.
Post Incident Test Flight, Morningstar, Pioneer 300

After the engine failure, both carburettors were removed and serviced, and the mixture was also set slightly richer. The engine is running beautifully now and after the carburettors were synchronized all the vibrations also disappeared. Time to take to the skies again!
Setting Personal Minimums to aid in Aeronautical Decision Making.
มุมมอง 4262 ปีที่แล้ว
I was taught to set for myself a series of personal minimums, conditions that if they are not met I will not fly. Things like Crosswinds, Cloud Base, Visibility, daylight remaining, fuel limits and personal circumstances to name but a few. It is not nice or easy, especially if it is an hour's drive to the airport only to find that your minimums are not met and you have to go home. It takes disc...

I see that you have maintained your composure, and that is the most important thing, followed by your training.
Every landing you walk away from is a good one 😉👍
How did the carb get blocked? What happened to the fuel filter?
Great job, and you even had the calm to ensure your sister that all is Ok and going fine. Even if you had any doubts, this helped her a lot, I can imagine. Additionally your briefed her for the event of an emergency and she seemingly took that serious and remembered. All over all great work and there is a lot to learn from your footage.
Set up. Convienent video scam cam. Dudes a liar
Yes, you caught me. Now please go and troll somebody else. Clearly you know nothing about airplanes. Go check out that Baby Shark video, you will understand that better.
Great
The quote: It depends how much pressure. Emotional arrousment supports your performance until a certain point. If you pass that sweet-spot of arrousment, the performance gets lower again. In the extreme case of an engine failure, most of us pass the sweet-spot and the quote appears to be correct. :)
Yeah you missed a few things but overall you get an A+ my friend. 2 souls flying and 2 souls walking away. That’s an A+ no matter how you got there.
Aviate...navigate...communicate. You did fine. Don't apologize. Also, MAJOR kudos to your passenger for not just screaming wildly. She did a PHENOMONEL job, just staying quiet and letting you focus. Major kudos to her.
France looks rough.
Nice job!
Engine sounds like a Rotax. .
Yes, but the engine noise bleeds through on the radio, thus un the gopro as well.
Great job!
Nicely done, meneer. Looks like you were well ahead of things.
The engine sounded like crap BEFORE takeoff!
Only noise that bleeds through on the radio
Handled that great! Good work!!
Ah tá, Só bocó do Corgo Rico acredita. 😂😂😂
Well done indeed. In the future please don't scare your sister like that. ;)
You don't rise to the occasion. You sink to the level of your training..... Love it.
Nicely done. Your sister was quite brave too. Maybe other pilots would say could have done this or that, I wouldn't know tbh. I just thought you handled the situation well and got it down without incident. I have been told that when flying a pilot usually keeps half an eye out for possible landing spots should things go sideways. Or be familiar with them on the route you fly.
What was your speed coming in
60kts
Hey, at least you had partial power!🤷♂🙏👍
I would be proud of sister for being smart
Top job respect 👏👏👏👏
Why do small aircraft engines sometimes fail and car engines never fail
Cars break down all the time though hahah What are you talking about? I mean, just because someone having to pull over onto the shoulder and call a tow truck isn't newsworthy doesn't mean it never happens lol
@@SEJay-gj2cv what I mean to say is, airplane engines are routinely inspected, very highly maintained and are in I imagine immaculate working condition. People don’t maintain their car engines and they last for a long time without it failing on the highway. I’ve never seen a car engine just turn off in the middle of driving, but it happens in airplanes so I don’t understand why there’s a difference
No mag check, no tank switch, ???
No time
The vibrations also played a big role, never knew a Rotax vibrates that much when you loose 2 cylinders
@@justplaneadventures8030 Cant multi-task, dont fly.
Or. You could just keep your feet firmly on the ground 😂
Well done lad, well done. Happy to see you and your sister safe.
One hell of a pilot wow 😊
Nicely done, the side slip was such a good call ! Very interesting video
Thanks for sharing. So glad that you two land safely. Much Blessings to you. 🙏 Lord-Jesus-Christ ✝c✝o✝m
Task saturation kicking in . Really ? Wow .
Staged big time. Cuffs the throttle control with the palm of his hand and then retards the power with his fingers . Come on people . . !
You had enough altitude to glide in at 1500 without the engine power. I would be very careful to rely on residual power when at lower altitude. Thanks for sharing. Great job.
Was about 5km away from Runway. But I agree on the power comment.
Why did you lose 2 & 4? Oil pump, drop in pressure, length of use? These things pop out of nowhere? 😮 Way to stay cool and keep your passenger at ease. Glad to have you down. 😊
Block in fuel for 2 and 4 carb
No panic, did everything by the book and a safe-no damage landing!
Well done!
Engine failure?
And that my friends is what professional pilots do. I applaud you sir.
The real question is why modern engines fail in the first place? Especially at such low altitude.
Contaminated fuel
aviate navigate communicate, you did it right
I don’t know anything about flying but you did awesome.
Bloody great job there fella and major kudos to your sister for being the perfect passenger.
handled it perfectly, stayed calm, prioritized focus on landing safely, bravo! much love from the UK, glad everything turned out ok :)
Thank you for sharing. Well done
So, why did the two cylinders fail?
Fuel block in one of the carbs
As far as I can tell as a total non pilot, well done sir. Pilot and crew are safe and plane is on the ground. Only thing I fly is a hammock!👍🏼😁
What kind of plane was this? Looks like a light sport not a full certificated plane with no mixture. I am sorry but every time I have been offered a ride in a exhibition or homebuilt I flat out sad no way. All stick to fully certificated planes . AD’s and Service Bulletin’s both optional and mandatory need to be followed. Homebuilts aircraft no thanks, light sport same forget it. I had enough problems with certificated planes let alone being a test pilot. Also some Pipers forget it, the Comanche line with their tail flutter.Been there done that.
The sister's little moan got to me hard.
Thanks God, the dash cameras were still working !
