The In-Between Game
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 มิ.ย. 2023
Reality and perception are misaligned. It's not that misalignment exists that's the problem - it's the degree to which it exists. The In-Between Game points out gaps, coincidences, inefficiencies, and circumstances that are often overlooked or passed by, but are worthy of closer scrutiny.
The In-Between Game features commentary on business, sports, society, and daily life with a contrarian theme.

Jimmy Butler is Starting to Lose SERIOUS Money in His Mexican Standoff with Pat Riley
After Jimmy Butler's most recent indefinite suspension (minimum 5 games) by the Miami Heat, Jimmy Butler is set to lose at least $5.7 million dollars. The problem for Jimmy is he's engaged in an ego-based standoff with Pat Riley where the only guarantee is that he loses money for as long as the standoff continues.

Rollover Employees: They Collapse As Soon As They're Hired (Bare Minimum Effort on the Job)

As soon as they're hired, some employees collapse and rollover, doing the absolute bare minimum necessary to stay hired (and collect paychecks) for as long as possible until they are ultimately fired after months if not years. When sports teams put out a release that an injured player will be reevaluated in a certain time frame, it doesn't actually mean anything. But that's the beauty for sports teams as it allows them to have the perception of having provided an update while retaining ultimate flexibility. The NBA's Championship or Bust Mentality is Bad - So What About a Point System?
มุมมอง 1719 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
NBA players largely have a championship or bust mentality which is horrible for the game and leads to players continually putting pressure on front office's to do the impossible (win a championship). But other team accomplishments have to matter too. For this reason, the NBA should add a points system that runs concurrent to the season. #NBA #NBAPodcast #NBARatings

Placeholder Customer Support: They Don't Really Want to Help You (It's for Appearances Only)

Placeholder customer support is a theory that posits that companies who have bad customer support that delays, reroutes, and provides unhelpful, non-substantive answers don't really want to help customers at all. I'm at day 19 right now! Still waiting...
I'm mildly surprised they still aren't moving any faster on this.
I didn't know how to take this -- was McCarthy joking about lying? What kind of person lies to get a job, then casually admits the lie *to the boss* after they get hired? If he really did lie, though, it reflects very poorly on him.
It was an extremely strange throw-in to the press conference and I think he very much wanted it to be laughed off as a joke, but few people found it funny (although Stephen Jones did). And, I agree, this reflects very poorly upon McCarthy.
Hi
Hi
All of your points were the same one's i came to on my own, i was just more curious on everything going on. Thank you for the deep dive into the actual policies as i actually hadn't done that lol, anyway thanks for the clear video man you did great. I will definitely be checking out more of your channel
Absolutely and thank you @Captain_Eco. I was in the same position, they had just rolled out whatever this is and I was thinking, surely, there must be something they're offering content creators and 0. I really appreciate the comment and thanks for checking out the channel. There will be more activity in 2025.
@inbetweengame hey man, no need to thank me honestly. Thank you for your service to the community. I'll be looking forward to seeing more from you
I want to watch sports but I don't want cable TV. Unfortunately, there are no streaming services that only offer standalone sports. Just cable TV bundles.
A streaming service consisting of solely sports is a great idea. One sticking point is whether you could get rights holders (and sports leagues) to come to an agreement that ensures the viability of the service. Another problem is many of the rights have already been bought and sold. Amazon, Apple, and Netflix are so powerful and all want sports rights.
ok, so the lottery shouldnt be waited. every team that misses the playoffs should get 1 pingpong ball and all have an equal chance at landing anywhere. That gets rid of the incentive to try and get a higher pick if you dont make the playoffs.
This would instantly solve the tanking problem, but it does make it more difficult for bad teams to improve. Also, it does increase the likelihood that an already successful team receives a high selection, resulting in an embarrassment of riches. I think the NBA flattening the lottery percentages even more would help. I'd still want the worst teams to be more likely to receive help; I think if you take a hybrid approach where the 7 worst teams have the same percentage odds of landing a top pick (say 9%) and then you give the 8-10 worst teams a 6% chance and drop down to teams 11-12 getting a 3% chance and 13-14 having a 2% chance, it will really disincentive teams from losing on purpose. Something along these lines still retains the spirit of trying to assist the bad teams, but it significantly decreases the sizeable advantage to being a bottom 3-4 team.
@@inbetweengame I dont think there should be ANY incentive to be worse. Your scenerio makes it clear that the goal should be to finish in the bottom 7. The way teams should get better is by drafting well and developing their young talent. In the long run, a team that consistently drafts well and develops their young players is better off than a team that gets a bunch of top 5 picks. For example- there was a 20 yr stretch for the spurs where they were finding talent like tony parker, manu ginoboli, george hill and kawai leonard outside of the lottery. Then during that same stretch you can look at a team like the bulls- they had picks in the top 8 for 10 straight years..... and they drafted some good players.... Elton Brand, Joaqim Noah, Kirk Hienrich, Ben Gordon, D rose etc. and they were constantly struggling. Or you can look at the warriors Antawn jamison,. Jason Richardson, Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy jr, Patrick Obryant, Ike diague were all lotto picks- warriors missed the playoffs for 13 yrs straight.
ESPN is not stupid, they let him go after looking at the numbers. I don't think that many people actually Google or check up on what Zach Lowe is doing, has said or his opinion. Don't get me wrong, he has his fans, like yourself, and even I don't have anything against him but he is simply not pulling enough 'traffic' to warrant ESPN to renew his contract. ESPN has a lot of data on what is working and what isn't. He is replaceable but good luck to him.
I also wouldn't think ESPN would cut him if his ROI was there, but it's very possible Zach Lowe would be worth more if they positioned / promoted him differently. ESPN has had a history of internal and management problems and more of them starting to surface now that the network isn't as profitable as it once was. I think ESPN has been a prime example of successful in spite of themselves for a long time now.
@@inbetweengame True, ESPN still has to get their shit together.
IDK what numbers they are looking at, but IDK one person that thinks Stephen A talks better basketball than Zach Lowe.
@@yessounds1973 He doesn't, but he definitely racks up the views.
@@yessounds1973If you're a MEDIA company, you prioritize views because that's what you do. Ball knowledge is for the NBA, views is for ESPN.
Studies show small investors can also do well on OTC because of information imperfections and lack of competition from big players trading on the NYSE.
Watching in August 2024. LeBron is just months away from being 40-yet he’s the best player on a loaded USA team.
The only question at this point is will this ever be a scandal or will it remain under wraps? David Stern was always good at information suppression, but he commissioned in a different era.
Interesting points. First time I’ve heard load management linked to tanking. You’re right that both good and bad teams lack incentives to create the urgency desired by fans (such as in NFL).
Thanks, it's a systemic problem that wasn't present/prevalent during the '90s, but as front offices and coaches started to evolve in how they approached the game, we saw more and more of it. Gregg Popovich is the first coach that comes to mind from the standpoint of winning games. Pop realized he didn't need to always win games to ultimately be successful, so he started throwing away some games because, in the grand scheme of things, they didn't matter.
I’ve been saying the jet.com acquisition has been a disaster for years. This company has had 30 years to launch an e-commerce ecosystem 🤦
And yet almost all of the coverage I came across gave the impression that it was so obviously a win for Walmart. I found nothing tangible that linked Marc Lore / Jet.com to Walmart's ecommerce growth. If anything, I think Walmart would be much further ahead if they'd never met Marc Lore.
Is there anything to do?

Mainstream media is pushing these "Wemby gonna be out of the Spurs" agenda because they know Victor is bringing in the money and pushing him to a large market team will further help their interests. Note Wemby is a Spur even as a kid; during All Stars, when his name got called he was showing the Spurs logo of his shirt - he is proud to be a Spur and for sure this will be taken into account when he need to make a choice later in his career. In all his interviews he mentioned he is aware of the process and expressed patience. The kid is not built how the kids are built today, he has shown maturity in the losses. BUT Wemby need a great support cast. Spurs PATFO indeed need to act sooner, they mentioned Giannis and Jokic did not get their rings until they were on their 8th season, is this Spurs baseline? Maybe.. Is Wemby subscribing to this - maybe not cause he mentioned he hates losing and wanted to win fast. Spurs got lots of things to do in the summer, they got the money and assets to do that.
So many different people are trying to fit Victor into what they see him as, but, like you said, Victor is a 1 of 1. He thinks completely different; winning is everything to him - you can tell just by watching how difficult it is for him to lose. This is one reason I hate that Gregg Popovich never gave him a chance to make the playoffs this season. The Spurs didn't have to force a roster move, make a trade, etc. All that was required was not to purposely lose. The Spurs have enough assets to where they could have had a good, 30-45 win season this year, and then built on that next year, etc. I don't think there was an obvious significant move to be made this past off season (maybe Austin Reaves, if they liked him) or during the year so I think it would have been a bad decision to try to make something happen ASAP. But at the same time, there were easy minor roster moves they could have made to where they weren't so depleted after their core group. And 100%, you can tell he loves the Spurs. The mainstream media is out of luck this time 😂
They aren't bringing it up because its obvious that KG was being Hyperbolic. Also there have been many articles over the past 21 years talking about how LeBron takes care of his body. Hyperbolic chamber, sleep cycles. Carmelo even talks about how LeBron was worried about nutrition even high school. When Kareem did this did anyone say steroids? How about Karl Malone? Lebron has always been an outlier of an athlete in sports. He's actually had a gradual decline in his production especially once you adjust for the increase in scoring averages over the past few years. Barry Bonds when from being a guy who hit singles to a guy who hit home runs. Completely different from Lebron who just cant jump as high as he used to but is still agile enough. He also doesnt play any defense anymore when he used to be the best defensive player in the league at his position.
How was it obvious that KG was being hyperbolic? If you believe Lebron isn't on PEDs, then I can't convince you otherwise. However, I'm not discounting the fact that other players may have been on performance enhancing drugs. And you make as good of points as can be made in defense of Lebron.
OK, please explain why his trainer was investigated by the DEA for being involved with PED’s. Please tell us why his business partner Mims was also investigated by the DEA for being involved in transporting PED‘s. Lastly, please explain why ESPN has an employee a former UFC fighter who has everything to lose by making a false statement would get on a national podcast and say that LeBron James and himself have the same drug dealer. Now you can bury your head in the sand if you want to, but this is what we call a preponderance of evidence. LeBron James is no different physically from any other man, you or no one can convince people that somehow LeBron has found the fountain of youth through a hyperbolic chamber. A lot of people take care of their body but what he is doing is abnormal. He is so hungry to be recognized as the goat he has literally played 21 years and maybe another year after this one just to try and get a ring so that he can be in the conversation as the greatest ever. That is the epitome of glory seeking. And when it comes out that he has indeed taken PED’s, what will you say? If something walks like a duck quacks like a duck guess what it’s a duck. I don’t care who you are you cannot defy aging and the toll it takes on one’s body. Respectfully, I think a lot of people are being willfully ignorant because they cannot bear the thought of their beloved LeBron James taking PED‘s, because that would totally destroy his legacy and forever end any comparisons between him and Michael Jordan.
Honestly PED are good for sports It prelongs are favorite athletes careers
I take the opposite position, but it's one those discussions where reasonable minds may disagree. PEDs create imbalances in competition and I'd rather see athletes perform naturally.
nice vid
Thanks, Moby. I appreciate it.
4 months later and this has hardly aged at all. While they pass to him more, there are still times where the ball just moves around him without him ever touching it. Sochan is the most jealous one on the team. Another lottery pick will not fix this. Seems like it’s a culture thing which is a lot harder to fix especially since the coach is going nowhere. Dumpster fire all around and this is coming from a season ticket holder.
It's absolutely is a dumpster fire and hopefully Popovich is finally held accountable. It may not be from ownership but it might be by Victor. The ironic thing about the Spurs still making some of the same basic, basic mistakes is this was supposed to be the season of "development."

Love the authentic flow and tone you bring to the screen! In a sea of content farms and AI voice overs, this offers a refreshing experience although this sort of stuff doesn't usually do well on TH-cam. I do think people are getting sick of the hyper edited stuff tho so I hope people gravitate towards channels like yours and you get some reward for your service. Your clearly knowledgeable but I'd suggest investigating some things you think are scams rather than explaining them on a whole. Case studies tend to do well and act as a PSA. Easy stuff to share and engage with while still giving you the opportunity to share your personal knowledge and personality. If you were to find a company that matches all the info here you could of still said all the same stuff but it would of felt more substantial because of attaching it to something people might have a personal feeling for. You can also biggyback off the popularity of said company or scam by using it's name in your titles and thumbnails. Not that I'm some expert but I do hope you manage to to well. It's super hard to get your first 1k & 10k subs but gets easier after that. Best of luck 🤞
Thanks so much, Cloud Surfer. Your note on channels using AI is a great one and very close to another topic in my content queue. One reason I didn't name names here is each additional name adds hours to the creation process because I have to thoroughly research each and objectively show that it is a scam. Plus, another upside is letting the viewer fill in the blanks with the objective information applied subjectively to their previous encounters. Thank you again for the support. I really, really appreciate it.
