Century Versys VS Bob Training Pattern
Here is a training pattern I put together for the new Century Versys VS Bob. I should mention that two weeks before my 40th birthday I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in both hips. Subsequently, I had both hips replaced by Dr. Peter Brooks at the Cleveland Clinic in 2013 with the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) system. It's simply amazing what I'm able to do with my artificial hips!

Thanks to my bi-lateral BHR hip resurfacing implants, my balance, strength, and stretch are back to pre-arthritis levels.

Here I am demonstrating what I am able to do about a year after my second hip was resurfaced.

  • @ALV-gs1xg

    Good work. But, you don't have "Artificial hips"!!! You still have your original hips. They have just been resurfaced. Big difference! I'm a martial artist and I've also had bilateral BHR. I know a few guys who have had total hip replacements and they have had major dislocation issues attempting martial arts. I'm so glad I found BHR before it was to late.

  • @ALV-gs1xg
    @ALV-gs1xg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had one hip resurfaced 6 years ago and the other last January. I am now working hard on my flexibility. Used to be able to perform front and side splits and I'm working toward that goal. Right now I am performing head height kicks with my left leg (The one recently resurfaced). But, performing head height kicks with my right is a lot harder as I'm rotating on my newer hip as the base leg. It has been a bit of a journey but I am so fortunate to have discovered BHR before going ahead with hip replacements. My surgery last year was two days before tennis star Andy Murray's. It was great to see him playing at Wimbledon last summer with Serena Williams on his resurfaced hip. I am very confident that I wont have any limitations in future. Although, I wont be doing any heavy bag or impact training. Looks like you are doing great. Keep up the good work!

    Hello Sir. Genuine and sincere questions here. How long have you owned your bag? How hard have you hit the legs and how have they held up? Has this improved your technique? Regardless of whether not you respond thank you so much for your time.

    How long was it after the surgery before you could even throw kicks? I am going to get the same surgery.

    • @dickiedoda
      @dickiedoda 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started doing slow kicks at about three months (holding onto a chair and going through the motions very slowly). By six months I was doing them fairly fast and things progressed quickly from there. I took the slow-and-steady route, which I really feel paid. I was anxious to get back to training, but I was thinking about longevity. At this point, I have absolutely no limitations.

    • @marcosdelgado5518
      @marcosdelgado5518 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      no worries bout dislocation?

  • @maxrey4055

    Did you fill with sand 100%? looks like it would move pretty easy with full force blows.

    • @vipe650r
      @vipe650r 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is one downside I'm checking into. There is no filling with these. It's padded foam in the legs and seems like it would fall down with power strikes. It allows practicing leg kicks, but it topples pretty easily, it seems, with power to the top.

    Dickiedoda, I need to get the my left hip resurfaced. I also own a TKD school out of Troy ohio. That said, I’m trying to gauge how long after surgery it would be before I could return to teaching ( no hi impact stuff like sparring). At what point was you moderately mobile and could stand/move for several hours ? Thanks

    • @dickiedoda
      @dickiedoda 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would think it would be a minimum of three months before you could start doing any real martial arts training/teaching. However, things progress quickly from there and by six months you should be able to do most things, although I continued to have gains for about another year after that. I wish I could tell you that you will be able to get back to teaching right away, but it will probably be awhile. That being said, once you are healed you will have no limitations and will be able to do everything again--it's worth the wait.

    Hey dickiedoda, looking good. I am an avid martial artist and the recipient of 2 new resurface hips (2 weeks today). Did both your hips/implants progress at the same time, or was one hip ahead of the other. I am having some pain in my left, but not in my right. I know it's only been 2 weeks, but I'm just trying to pick the brain of others who have had bilateral resurfacing. Thanks, and I hope this message finds you in good health. I look forward to hearing back from you.

    • @dickiedoda
      @dickiedoda 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Steve, I did my two hips about six months apart. You are still at the very early stages of the rehab process and my main suggestion is to take it nice and slow. If you push yourself too soon then you are likely to have some setbacks. Be patient and you won't believe what you will be able to do. Good luck!

    I am wondering if I should get this, and while you look like a sturdy guy what are your weight and length? I am 115 kg at 1.87 m and I am worried I might break it's legs if I go for full power low kicks. Or that I would keep punching and kicking it to the floor.

    • @jewtubehatestruth7341
      @jewtubehatestruth7341 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you can be 215kg, if you wear your weight fatty it won't matter. Power is generated through technique, not weight

    • @lakkakka
      @lakkakka 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jewtubehatestruth7341 well at thos point I'm at 78 ish kg. So ithe previous comment doesn't count anymore. But you're wrong about technique being the most important part. Force is mass times speed. The more mass you accelarate the higher your force potentoal. Technique will only modify it. It is true that on equal weight, technique can might be the deciding factor.

    Sensei, so inspiring. Had a BHR July 31st, 2015. I'm also a martial artist. Have done two competitions since. But 9 months post surgery don't have quite the flexibility you exhibit. Would love to know about your process and some of the training that got you to this point. How long post surgery was this particular video? And how is it going these days? leogarbarino1@gmail.com

    I just wish it was adjustable height so I can make it taller like B.O.B cus I'm 6'4 and I wish it were way heavier like B.O.B cus it seems to easy to knock right over

    • @dragonboy7395
      @dragonboy7395 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jessica Duncan Yeah, BOB Versys is only 59 inches which is 8 inches shorter than you. You could probably set BOB Versys up on some sort of platform. Maybe build something basic via Home Depot and put a little carpet over the wood that has short pilling.

    • @dragonboy7395
      @dragonboy7395 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jessica Duncan Wow. I just re-read your name and realized you are a woman. 6'4" is tall. Not too many women with that kind of height that I know. I would feel safe with you. Haha. :) Just kidding, we know technique is what counts, right?

  • @richardnurse2772
    @richardnurse2772 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    boy, how easy is it to kick over? can you practice heavy kicks with it reasonably without kicking it over?

    • @dragonboy7395
      @dragonboy7395 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Richard Nurse It's probably very easy to kick over since it only weighs 110 lbs. BOB Versys is generally designed for training in accuracy and correct application of technique. If you want a bag for power punches and kicks, check out Outslayer.com They have GREAT quality equipment and stock 100, 150 and 300 lbs. heavy bags as well as bags designed for Muay Thai that are 6 feet tall and allow you to do power kicks to the "shin", "knee", or "thigh" on the 6 foot bag. They also have angled heavy bags for upper cuts. Enjoy!
