Jimmy Stewart: WWII Bomber Pilot
มุมมอง 225K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Despite finding fame as one of Hollwood's top leading men, Jimmy traded in the red carpet to enlist in the United States Army in 1941, just months after winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in "The Philadelphia Story". An accomplished pilot and a natural leader, Jimmy petitioned the Army Air Force for the opportunity to fight for his country. He got his wish, and in November 1943, Stewart w...

An Autumnal Walk through Rosary Cemetery, Norwich
มุมมอง 2944 ปีที่แล้ว
Rosary Cemetery, established in 1819, is the oldest non-denominational burial ground in the UK. The Thorpe Hamlet cemetery holds the remains of some of Norwich's most influential families. The imposing mausoleum and subsiding tombstones are gradually being reclaimed by the woodland that once stood on the site. Like the much better known Highgate Cemetery in London, the Rosary makes for an atmos...
Our cosy writing retreat in Galway, Ireland
มุมมอง 1524 ปีที่แล้ว
A short video chronicling a thesis writing retreat my sister and I took recently. We spent four nights in a cosy AirBnB near Kinvara, County Galway. Storm Dennis kept us inside for the most part but we did manage to visit the beautiful Galway City and breathe in the sea air at Kinvara.
'For King and Country' - Harry Browning's Story
มุมมอง 1285 ปีที่แล้ว
A short (rough cut) film I produced during a CHASE-funded factual film-making summer school, using some of the filming and editing techniques we learnt on the course, with material from Newhaven Museum and the surrounding area. The film tells the story of Harry Browning, a crew member of the HMS Hampshire, which sank of the coast of Orkney in 1916. Lord Kitchener, who was en route to Russia, al...

Trully remarkable 👏 ❤🇺🇲🫡👍
I find that Hollywood seems to be more honorable than many of those in congress since WWII. Heartbreaking those in congress before & during & after the Vietnam war. The to add the final insult PutinJrtrump in the White House.
My Uncle Bill Neafsey served with the Mighty Eighth but never wanted to talk about it. He’’s gone now, and I’m learning what I can about it, and him. This video helps. Thanks!
Glad I got to see this
THIS IS GREAT!!
I find it interesting that all the American WW2 Airfields get glorified set up a big museums lots of money spent, then RAF ones get left to rot away and forgotten
May Thorpe Abbotts last in perpetuity as a living memorial to the "Greatest Genration"
Part of Indiana PA was always in him- and part of him was always in Indiana PA.
My wife and I would love to visit Thorpe Abbotts when we go to England, perhaps next year. My dad was a Navigator in the Pacific during WW2. However he was later in the 100th Bomb Wing, the Cold War descendent of the 'Bloody Hundredth', flying the B-47. By the way, the music on this video is great!
Wow!!! When men were MEN!
I have visited this place several times, and have had the privilege of donating a few artifacts to them. I highly recommend you go and see it if you get the chance. It is maintained and operated by a wonderful group of volunteers. Send them a donation if you can!
You're a remarkable young women Hattie. I suspect the young men you talk about, some of whom fought and often died far away from home, would rest easy, knowing a young person like yourself has not forgotten them. Thank you!
Thank you for your lovely comment, David. It's my honour to do what I can to share the story of these remarkable young men. It really is what gets me up in the morning.
You are doing a great job keeping that heritage alive.
The character and humility at its finest. I miss that.
What a great achievement to preserve this great place to pay respect to those brave airmen. ❤
One of my dad (B24 pilot & POW) mom (SGT Women’s Air Corps) FAVORITES! What an AWESOME human being!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️
A worthy tribute to all the servicemen who served there.
The average airman's lifespan was 6 missions. Let that sink in. The most under told story of WW2 were the crews that hammered the German war machine for close to 2 years before the D Day invasion. The level of bravery is something we'll never see again. Men of men.
People like John Wayne and Errol Flynn must have been "Gutted" when in the presence of a Real MAN.
the 455 heavy bomb group was shot down sep 27 1945 kassel germany my uncle was with the 701 sqn he never came home he was 27
I have visited this site a few times and love everything about it, the atmospheric control/watch tower and the exhibits contained therein but most of all its the enthusiasm of the volunteers who make us all feel so welcome. The mighty 8th gave so much to ensure the freedom of us Europeans we all are eternally grateful.
Wonderful Hattie
I shall enjoy watching this !
Beautiful archive...great respect for honor, dignity, and brave for Mr Jimmy Stewart 🇺🇸 Air Force.Very interesting and strong character. BOWS for Elite 🇵🇱🕊️🤝
Imagine our actors today doing this 🤦♀️
Don't make em like that anymore, the complete all round American hero, fantastic actor and a complete gentleman. Miss his likes today !!
My greatest respect for the actors that put their careers in hold to serve our country in the military during ww2
I remember watching It’s A Wonderful Life as a kid 30 years ago thinking the actors were probably just at home while everyone was off fighting the war. Boy was I so wrong!
What I found most poignantly when I visited the airfield some 3 years ago, was that they had a soundtrack of B17's supposedly returning to the airfield after a daylight bombing raid. The sound of those engines was incredible. You could almost picture the sight.
More of a man than any other actor like John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. A true quiet professional
Murderer if lots of subscribers and people
Most Impressive.
Shortly before he passed away, I sent him a copy of my script of “It’s A Wonderful Life” along with a note asking him to sign it, along with a $5 bill for return postage. We graduated from the same high school (almost 60 years apart) and I had his home address, so I thought there was a chance. Two weeks later, the script came back to me in the mail - signed, with the $5 attached.
From what I read Jimmy Stewart suffered from PTSD and that affected his acting
The lively vein roughly plug because silica finally tie circa a wary viola. amusing, wicked sweatshop
I got hairy legs that turn blond in the sun!
Jimmy Stewart........Walked the walk and talked the talk. Served his country and Britain's in real life and on screen , real life gent and hero. No BS with him.
My uncle, who passed a few years ago at 99 years old, also in the army. Jimmy was always his pilot. He had such respect for him. My uncle, and all others who flew with him, got a Christmas card every year until Mr Stewart died. Always hand signed! My uncle kept them all. My cousins will sell them one day, or leave them to their children.
Goosebumps alert. Courage and quiet dignity in a single packet. He told one of the funniest jokes I've ever heard.
A true gentleman👍
The days when people were famous for a very good reason. What a class act he was, and one hell of a brave man. The time when we had men like this to look up to, and look at the the Hollywood actors we have today, I rest my case.
The vague frame increasingly lick because kilogram preclinically concentrate onto a gaping title. direful, cautious shop
We must together. Work together. To see where we are. Where we are headed, where we are going and our vision for where we should be.
I had a crush on Jimmy back in the day!
Jimmy Stewart never needed the word "Hero" attached to his name. Genuine American would suffice nicely.
He was very different to the infantile actors in Hollywood today. But so were a lot of actors back then.
Could never imagine Jimmy punching John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Richard Widmark or Gary Cooper at an awards ceremony.
This man is one of the reasons the used to call them "STARS", not anymore though.....
R I P Brigadier General James Stewart,Thank you for your service to your Country when it needed you ,Respect ,Duty Done 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲💐🥀🙏🌹🥀One of the greatest Generation who did some great movies also ♥️ In memory of those Allied brave airmen who lost their lives in WW2,We salute them 🙏
Thank you for your service Jimmy.
Great actor: Academy Award Great leader: General Officer Bravo Zulu, sir!
