    Hi! Me and my friends are beginners and we already love dnd, i have just one question we read the rules on a pdf guide we found on google and we read that the modifiers need to be added to the d20 and not the damage dice. Is this wrong?

      Hey just googled it as well to check haha! I got this "When attacking with a weapon, you add your ability modifier-the same modifier used for the attack roll-to the damage. A spell tells you which dice to roll for damage and whether to add any modifiers. If a spell or other effect deals damage to more than one target at the same time, roll the damage once for all of them."

      @@anerdscorner thank you! I missed the part where it said to add it again. Thanks

    This helped me so much because I thought that it was hard to calculate damage but this video showed me how and it’s not hard at all. So thank you so much 😊

    Now... you also forgot critical rolls. My one question is: Does it apply before all the modifier and other bonuses, or after? Because if so... my Paladin's swinging for 5d8 + 4d6 + 8 times 2 (5th Level Smite + 2d6 for a great sword + 2d6 for fire damage granted by said sword + 8 STR modifier (homebrewed gear made me busted)). 144 max damage possibly?

      In the games I have played the crit is based off the rolls and damage first. So the person would get their damage first and then double it for the crit. Different DM's may do different things though :)

      @@anerdscorner Gotcha. I figured this was the case.

    Where does the 17 strength come in?

    • @AGKaiju
      @AGKaiju 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Accounting for stat-based modifiers, they can either benefit or inhibit damage dealt to an enemy. They increase or decrease by 1 for each 2 above or below 10. In this case, for the melee attack, the strength stat is 17, meriting a modifier of +3. So in short, 1d8 + 3 would be your roll of damage.
