To be fair Scarborough isn't loads further from Bamburgh than Thirsk, it's just the slow arse coast roads vs jumping straight up the A1.

I'm with Anth here 6ft in the trough, is 4ft of proper wave face i.e. wave with enough curve to spend proper time on it.

Got to agree with their wave measurement. Best explanation i've heard is that due to the curve of a wave you never really stood for ling in the true trough of a wave, the 'effective' wave face as it stands prominent in front of you is about 2/3rds of the actual wave height. So if you're stood in the flats and its 6ft, then there is 4ft of proper banked wave face to play with.

Magic! I watched North Shore with my Grandma at the theater in 1987 when I was 9 years old. I wanted to move to Oahu Hawaii to be a pro surfer immediately LOL. Starting buying surf magazines, and riding my BMX to the surf shops. I grew up in the Mojave Desert California, so not many surfboards around, but there was a few, and I knew where they were LOL. Never was able to convince my Dad to get me one. I just visited Kauai for the first time in my life August 2024, and I just kept thinking about this movie seeing the surfers around the island. Seeing all the surfers, and the boards in the shops, brought back my 1980's surfing dreams. It was just like the movies over there. I watched this movie again last night when we got back from the trip. Brings back so many memories. If anyone ever talked poorly about the movie, Matt Adler, John Philbin, Gregory Harrison, I would have some choice words for them LOL. That movie made my childhood so fun, lots of dreaming. Another movie needs to be made with Adler, Philbin, etc, a continuation. If I had the money, I would honestly fund it immediately. If done properly, it would be epic. I would have the actors be very involved in the creative portion, it would have to achieve the original magic. I believe it can be done.

Quick comment on the NE, but it was always said that we get more surfable waves than in the SW, but it's often smaller. And Bridlington is sort of the birth place of UK Surfing. With Hawaiian princes surfing there in 1890.
