Top 5 Wine Gifts for your Wine Loving Friends
Whisky's complicated enough for me - wine has so many variables that to me it's just a confusion (I'm not dumb, but I'm not a towering intellect either 🙂). 9:25 🎵 It was a very good year! 🎶 16:49 A while back I bought a bottle of Gruet champagne (though the family's originally from France and therefore doesn't call it champagne because it doesn't come from that region), which was supposedly brut. But I found it to be cloyingly sweet. Maybe it was because I'm used to whiskey, which can be sweet (e.g. Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon) but has considerably more alcohol to counterbalance the sweetness, but I couldn't finish the second glass. And because of that, and because wine does bewilder me with it complications, I've been hesitant to try dipping my toe in again. But you mentioned gewurztraminer, which I had a glass of a number of years ago and enjoyed, and I may hunt me up a bottle of that. 🙂
A good gewürztraminer goes a long way and can be very sweet but if balanced right tastes wonderful. I’d recommend trying to find a Brut Nature wine, if you want something with little to no sweetness. A lot of California sparkling wines may have some more sweetness just because of the fruit flavors coming through. Wine is a little crazy 😂 but that’s why I enjoy it. So much to learn and talk about!
Port is absolutely not a desert wine... a dry white port is closer to a sherry.
Some may considered it a dessert wine, Madeline Puckette, the co-founder of wine folly, has this quote “Port wine is most commonly enjoyed as a dessert wine because its richness.” May not be desserty for everyone but many consider it a dessert wine, hope this helps! 🙃
Great Video, try Jameson Black Barrel, Red Brest and Green Spot. Drop the music a bit too. Gotta hear the lesson!
We love those three! Blue spot is currently our favorite “spot”. Will fix the music next time, thanks!!
I’m not a fan of Irish Whiskey, I prefer Kentucky Bourbon. I’m just getting started learning about whiskey and bourbon. Thanks for the education.
Kentucky Bourbon has a lot to offer!
I really enjoy your channel, especially how you present your content. After reviewing your videos, I noticed a few areas where I could help optimize your channel to reach a larger audience. Would you be open to discussing this further?
I know slightly more about wine than I do about the Martian language. 😂 But in three years of drinking whiskey I've found that there are snobs out there. But they don't ruin my fun 'cause I don't pay 'em no never mind. If someone finds it necessary to sneer or excoriate because of what I drink, I just feel sorry for 'im. 🙂 One of my Thoroughly Amateur™️ videos is about whisky snobs. 3:35 Another of my videos covers the question of whether people really get the notes they say they get. 🙂 11:39 When I started drinking whiskey three years ago, I had no idea that whisky right off the still is like crystal. I'd never thought of how whisky gets its color, but I had no idea that it came from the wood. 🙂 18:04 I prefer my whisky straight, and I like proof. But if someone likes 80 proof bourbon and branch, more power to him. 🙂
Great video and a true history of a distilling giant. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
It's amazing that he's been there for 70 years. He started at Wild Turkey when my wife was only 7 years old - and I wasn't even born!
It's truly amazing how long he's been working!
i feel like i saw this already??? 🤔
“This is not the video you are looking for”
That stuff's dark enough to be out of Balcones Distilling - though the Waco climate gives their juice that kind of color a lot faster. 🙂 0:48 Now I'm thinking of the *Miami Vice* episode "Viking Bikers From Hell." 😂
That’s actually what Heather said off camera! More precisely “this is dark enough to be Texas, dear goodness” super tasty though, and none of that glorious Texas funk.
@Whisk_e_yAndWine I don't even know what "Texas funk" means. I hear the phrase all the time, but no explains what it means. And I've found that whisky from Texas can range from tasting just like Kentucky (TX bourbon) to being utterly distinctive (anything from Balcones).
Not gonna lie did not expect it to be named after a horse 🐎
You’re just too good sir 🫡
YOU HAVE HIDDEN BOOZE 🥃 😂
And maybe more 👀👀👀
It’s funny how bourbon drinkers describe the smell and taste. These descriptions make virgin drinkers think bourbon is like cotton candy. Great job, I’ll keep watching. Thanks
That is a really good point 🤔 might have to consider that when delivering reviews.
I've never seen clothing like that before. What do you call it?
It’s a dashiki dry fit shirt!
That is the beauty of blinds, you get some unexpected results. Do it on another day and you may get a different result too. Ive done a few blinds where a 1792 full proof store pick has beat out Stagg jr, Bardstown Disco 11, and a Russell's Reserve Private Barrel just to name a few.
That's awesome! So many variables can change where things get ranked, just goes to show how open to suggestion and influence we are.
Totally, absolutely, utterly, completely beside the point, that is one impressive bass voice. I can only get that low when I work at it, once a day, on a good day. 😀 So, Heather, how much of a buzz did you have at the end? 😂 14:33 I'm not a rye guy, but I've had a few rye whiskies which I like nearly as well as bourbon. An excellent rye is indeed excellent whisky. 🥃 16:26 Toasting the barrel, either before charring or without charring, does neat things to the wood and has a tasty effect on the whisky. Part of what I call "the Balcones touch" (IIRC I've done a video on that) is the fact that they toast all their barrels. I've never even seen Penelope, and couldn't it if I saw it, but this has been an interesting video. Muchas gracias. 🙂
I wasn’t too buzzed after this, very little sips and I had a lot of water and food before hand 🤓 also it helps that I’m almost 100% German raised in Wisconsin I’m a huge fan of the toasting process! It imparted some awesome flavors and we will 100% be looking more into what happens at a chemical and nerdy level at some point!
Salute for getting this done. I couldn't have done this. A lot was accomplished to me here. Kind of happy I didn't buy the Rose' cask. The 4 grain wasn't for me but may have to revisit it. I'm hoping the batch 2 Valencia matches the one sampled here. I thought the 9 year Estate Collection would have faired better. Great job in the blind. If I lived close to you both I'd send you the Tokaji Penelope I have.
I’ve tried one Tokaji finish, I believe it was from Starlight, so I’m on the look out for that as well to sample and eventually finish the Penelope collection with.
Following on TikTok and I'm a Bourbon drinker.
Thank god for theses tips and tricks 🎉
Glad you like them!
Thank you for this gorgeous holiday giveaway and following on IG!
Good luck!!
Thank you for such a generous giveaway.
Just spreading some holiday cheers!
Trying to win for my hubby! He would absolutely loveee this!
Hope he gets one! We’ll find out soon!!
My hubby would love this gift!
It’s a great gift!
Following on Instagram and TH-cam! Love Eagle Rare

Love Eagle Rare
Fantastic bottle
I love all Copper Hawk wine!! They all sound good though
They have some top notch wine!
Some solid options! Thanks for the info
Just some fun tips! 🙃
They all seem lovely, definitely a nice gift to share with the fam. Thankyou for hosting. I fallow on Instagram. Same name on there as well. 💞🍾
Entered!
I love Eagle rare. Smooth and Easy
It’s one of our favorites for sure!
Count me in!
Got you entered!
Damn, if I could have alcohol, that would be the alcohol 😂
It’s a good option my friend!
This is the whitest ad I’ve ever ever watched 😂

I’m going to use Gladiator 2 as my go-to derail
Was it because you liked it or disliked it? 👀👀
Following on insta! Very nice selection on the 4 bottles!
Got you entered in!
Going to have to find watershed near me and try their stuff.
If you can find their uncut unfiltered, that’s easily their best. The fall finish series is really good too whether it’s this one, the maple, or the nocino (black walnut) finish
Following on tiktok. Either bourbon would be amazing. Eyeing that watershed ❤️❤️
very interesting. I really didn't know these facts. Now you have me thinking about what is my favorite bottle shape.
Now that’s a fun question! I’d have to go with the nice square bottles, the store easily. May run a poll on the short videos and see what people think 👀
Following on TikTok
Awesome! Cheers!!
Would love to try both of them ❤ 🦅
For me a gift I would like would be a barrel to do my own aging or wood staves for different finishing for whiskys. That idea about a tour is a great one.
The barrel would be awesome! We’ve been thinking of testing this ourselves!
I'm not on Instagram or TikTok, but though I've only seen a couple or three videos so far, this looks like an interesting channel. 🙂
We’ll get ya in the drawing still! 🫡 the main thing is getting people to come over to TH-cam to see the long format stuff. Consider yourself entered!
I'm on my feet all day at work, and while I'm always moving (I typically cover five miles a day), while all my life I've walked for enjoyment, and while I have the easiest job in the store, I do want to relax at the end of the day. I read - I've been reading all my life - and watch the TH-cam channels I'm subscribed to, and drink some whisky. There is nothing like the utterly boneless relaxation that sippin' on a glass of good whisky brings - I feel like a relaxed cat looks. 🙂
A good book and a good pour can go a long way!
Love that eagle rare.👌
It’s one of our all time favorites 🔥
You know I love a good Wisconsin old fashioned!! (As does my father😂)
Maybe I’ll have to just bring a bottle up for Dad 👀👀
Great video nice way to see some introspection, love the content!
Trying to keep it fun and light hearted, not always about whiskey or wine nerd stuff!
I love Eagle Rare so I wouldn’t mind another bottle! That Watershed one sounds pretty good too though!
In addition to drinking I would say what I do to relax is cruise around on my skateboard. Just push around my neighborhood and get that fresh air. I just hope I don't hit a pebble and fall.
Music and Longboarding was always one of my favorites!
Eyeing that Watershed offering. I only care to participate on TH-cam due to personal reasons. Should the whiskey vault do another dry week I’m definitely recommending this channel.
Hey that's fine by us! We really appreciate that! Sam is a big fan of the Whiskey Vault!
Excellent presentation!
This was very well done and concise. Also, the Dude is very right. You have to see how these barrels are charred. At the Yamasaki distillery, I remember a worker using a small flamethrower to char a barrel. Video was so cool.
