Fly Fishing adventures around the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
LAST CALL | End of Season Fly Fishing For Summer Run Steelhead on the Lower Deschutes River
Jen and I needed to get out of town, spend some time together and
decompress a little so we headed out to the Deschutes River for a little fishing and camping adventure.
I am still working on my cast with a two-handed rod and thought that this would be a good place to practice and possibly find a summer steelhead at the tail end of the season.
This trip was a good reminder that getting away from the hustle and bustle and stresses of life is great for your mental health, but also that some things don't come easily and that learning a new thing is a journey and takes time.
PLEASE be sure to check out my website for some sticker options plus much more!

CASTING AT GHOSTS | A SHORT FILM | The Story of a Pacific Northwest Fly Fishing Steelhead Guide
มุมมอง 9K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Swinging flies for winter steelhead is arguably the most challenging way to catch these elusive anadromous fish. This is where the help of a professional fishing guide can be very beneficial. I first met Jaime Delgado 2 years ago on a steelheading trip where I was taking photos and fishing with some friends on the Oregon Coast. Immediately I was drawn to the fact that Jaimes approach to guiding...

When my friend Ben Meyer contacted me to tell me that he had access to some special water on a small creek and asked if I would like to fish it with him, the only answer was obviously, yes! Ben and I have known each other for a number of years, but it had been awhile since we had connected. This trip gave us the opportunity to reconnect and catch up with where each other were at in life. It tur...
FIBERGLASS FLY FISHING | PNW Fly Fishing For Wild Trout With an Old Fiberglass Rod

After breaking off the tip on my trusty 3wt, I decided to take an old fiberglass rod that I purchased years ago as a decoration. The whole point was to see how this older technology would hold up in the modern world. Jen and I cruised out to a couple of our favorite rivers to celebrate our anniversary and to get in some good camping, hiking, swimming, cooking & fishing. We ended up having a rea...

I would like to present a tale to you. This is a drama with multiple parts and chapters. It covers love, loss, sense of place and life. Jen and I escaped up to one of our favorite rivers in the summer to find some cold water for fishing and swimming. It was a really wonderful trip with the exception of one major thing. I broke the tip off of my @Redingtonflyfishing 3wt Trout Classic rod.....sig...

I had a random day to get some trout fishing in and decided to check out a fork of a river that I haven't fished in quite some time. It's a pretty easy drive from my house and it seemed perfect for a quick summer day trip. Upon arriving I found that the road was blocked and in order to park there and hike in, I needed a permit that I didn't bring with me. I tried to fish the main river but foun...

This short film is a celebration of the salmonfly and golden stonefly hatch on the Lower Deschutes River. It's a special hatch that draws anglers from all around the world to chase large native Redband Trout on the dry fly. Myself and my dear friend and Prolific Northwest contributor, Ben Dobler discuss some topics around the hatch as well as one particular fly pattern that is pretty ridiculous...
CUTTIES & BROOKIES | Solo Fly Fishing for Wild Trout in the Pacific Northwest Mountains

I recently headed out into the mountains near home to get in some solo time on one of my favorite local streams. It was mid-week which meant I had the place to myself. The weather was perfect and the trout were looking up at dry flies. I nestled into a nice little riverside camp spot with the truck and Four Wheel Camper Fleet model for a night. I woke up, did some work, then hit the river. I br...

My friend Lucas and I went out on his birthday in search of a remote mountain creek in the Cascade Mountains not too far from home. DESCHUTES SALMONFLIES | Fly Fishing On The Deschutes River At The Beginning Of The Famous Hatch
มุมมอง 4.7K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
It was time to get back out to the Big D for the beginning of the famous Salmonfly and Stonefly hatch. I had some good success on previous trips fishing the nymphs as they started to make their swim towards the shore to hatch. This hatch needs a few things to line up for it to be "lights out" and each year there is a variable that might affect just how well you'll do, but if you time it right, ...
DOES SIZE MATTER? | Fly Fishing on a Small Oregon Creek for Wild Cutthroat Trout

In this video, I ponder the age old question, Does Size Matter? This was based on sitting and daydreaming of dry fly fishing and my love of small stream fishing. I grew up fishing small water for small native trout and my heart is always in search of that type of fishing, especially as spring starts to ramp up. I know that many people are looking to catch the big fish on big water with big flie...
DESCHUTES DAYS | Solo Fly Fishing on the Lower Deschutes River

I traveled back out to the Big D to spend some time fishing salmonfly and stonefly nymphs ahead of the big hatch that will erupt soon. @@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins thank you Tim! That means a lot to me coming from you. Your videos have been a huge help. Cheers!
Top notch.
Thank you so much 🙏
Beautiful area!
It sure is, and a great place to chase steelhead!
I never found spey casting easy. There are so many details, that will affect a cast. Each time I thought I had found the key to it all,it wouldn't work the next time out. There seems to be a lot of components of a cast that must work in harmony. I did teach myself to cast off both shoulders, both single and double spey, you can handle any wind,or obstruction by doing this.
@@markmcmyn8967 so true and great advice!
Badass film!
Thank you very much, I really appreciate it!
Sometimes you just need to get away! Beautiful setting, thanks for sharing.
that is so true, and easier to do (especially this time of year) with such a comfy camper setup! Thanks for doing what ya'll do!
Really great video. I understand many would like to show video of great 100ft cast but I prefer to see surroundings through your eyes. Hills, water and roads. You have a great talent and should keep making some great videos. casting skills will improve and fish will come or now. It is not critical to see fish all the time. Thank toy for sharing great moment with us.
I'm right there with you. I could make super polished fishing films, or I could just show what all of us experience, which is that fishing is a learning process....a journey so to say. I'll get there, I'm not worried about that. I just have to put in the time...bummer, more time on the water. Thanks for the support!
Beautiful work! Thank you.
@@OscarOverlanding thank you!

@@fullswingflyfishing it's a great stick!
@@prolificnorthwest mine and my gfs favourite 😎
@@prolificnorthwest is that one the 8124?
@@fullswingflyfishing it's not, it's actually the 7108 Switch. It's not the best at spey casting, especially on a river as big as the Deschutes, but it gets the job done. It really shines on the smaller coastal streams.
@@prolificnorthwest depends on how and what you cast but it does do a good job and yea for smaller streams thats where they shinr. The 8110 is the worst tho. It doesn't even feel like it's apart of the series.
Well said sir , Spey cast is a great way to reset your mind.

I’m jealous! Love SE Alaska!
Great video! Thanks for all of your hard work. Waiting to swing for winter steel!
Thank you so much and I’m right there with you!
I've caught more steelhead on a fly than conventional gear. I started when I was 17 and have been hooked since. The time between fish is full of peacefulness, reflection, and relaxation. There's nothing more exhilarating than a steelhead ripping line off the reel. Absolute heaven.
Couldn’t agree more! Cheers!
Beautiful fishing scenes!
Thank you very much!
Second film I've seen where they are fishing several of my favorite runs; probably lots of other people seeing these and realizing the same thing. Great videography. It's finally time! Deer is in the freezer, summer is over; game on ! This vid gets me stoked and thank you
Thanks for watching!
Very tired of seeing these runs in videos … places I’ve fished nearly 30 years, way more crowded than used to be.
@@BBBKong I'm glad that you enjoyed the film, thanks for watching!
Jamie is probably the best steelhead angler that I know. You knows and understands how to find them and how to fish for them because he came from a gear background and does not limit himself to the norm. He is also a great guy and comes from a great hard working family. Great work on the video.
So true! Thank you Mike!
Incredible film Sean, well done everyone!
Thanks Alex! I’m looking forward to doing some filming when you are back!
Great talk and fishing. Almost zen moments from time to time
Glad you enjoyed it
People often ask me if I fly fish. My answer is always "no I like catching fish". Respect to the patient!!!
If you put the time and effort in you will catch plenty on a fly rod. Most fly anglers grew up gear fishing, myself included. I don’t understand this misconception
Cheers!
Plus it’s really fun to catch them on a fly rod!
I started really catching fish when I started fly fishing. flies are the stealthiest of lures and fish can't resist them
A huge plus is being able to tie your own flies, just how you like them. You're always rocking your confidence flies!
Fitting title & awesome video, chasing or swinging for stellies is at best a fleating endeavor but we keep swinging & hope 🤙🇺🇸
So true!
So happy to be a part of this story!
Thank you for all you did to help make this possible!
Beautiful! Nice work brother!

Love this video! Great work yet again. Really looking forward to your winter steelheading videos this season. I think this will be the year you get one! Speaking of steelhead, fly fishing in the PNW offers a ton of opportunity in the salt as well. If you’re ever up in the Puget sound area, drop me a line and I’ll take you for a cast out there. Keep up the good work!
@@trevorjohnson9248 thank you so much! I’ve got some fun stuff coming down the pipeline on summer steelhead and a really cool winter steelhead based short film dropping next month! I’m really looking forward to this coming season. I have been tying winter flies like a madman the last few weeks. I am definitely interested in filming more saltwater stuff. I have a few projects in the works right now, but I would love to do some filming up in the sound. I’ll definitely reach out. Thanks for the support. Cheers!
Looking forward to the new stories you will be telling soon! I think it is really cool that you are wanting to go a little more in that direction.

I love the direction you're headed in! I'm excited to hear this story!
Thank you! I hope your a healing quickly.
Paying to fish has a long history unfortunately because some people don’t take care to be respectful and clean up their mess. So paying to get access is one way to monitor who goes there. I wish all rivers were accessible but that isn’t the real world. Your new format sounds like fun. I live in north Idaho and enjoy fly fishing but at my age (72) I find I spend more time looking at the rocks in the river and just watching the river than I do worrying about matching the hatch. Look forward the next video.
Yeah I totally agree and I hear ya about looking at the rocks!
