"I Just Cant Help Myself" is a piece Choreographed and performed by Rebecca Hamilton, Myself, Emma Bryant, & Alexis Atkins as Our Final Project for Choreographic Workshop
This piece was inspired by the artpiece "Cant Help Myself".
Created in 2016 by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu, this art installation features an industrial factory style robot that's only purpose is to scoop oil towards itself as its oil slowly spreads out and away from itself.
As the simulated crowdlike audience observes from the outside, Emma, Alexis, and Rebecca find their own connection with the robotic dance, eventually influencing and later joining the robot as it struggles to function.
In this dance, the energy level was an attempted parody of the robots initially joyful lifespan leading to its laborious end. The robots initial carefree days could be seen spinning and rotating in unnecessary movements. However as time went on the robot seemingly tired of its work, and ceased working in 2019.
