Where’s my Datsun Skyline from 1979 ?

I was in Africa in the 80's, and a lot of taxi was Datsun 120Y that was so damaged that it looks like a potatoe on wheels. In some of them you can see the road under your feet. As some drivers was payed with percentage, they work a lot and take some drug to stay awake. That's where I have learn to use the seatbelt. The trips was fast, cheap and fun !

Very nice video, my brother used to drive a Datsun 510 4 door 1974 to delivery pizza for a restaurant named Mon Copain in 1980,that car was built like a tank very solid indestructible and reliable car, but the only problem I remember they were rusting a lot specifically if you were leaving in Canada and they didn’t have good rust treatment back in that time, but I still miss that car ❤🚗👍.

I'm a product of the late 70s and early 80s. Born in 65. First car 73 javelin. 16 years old. We had many jokes about Japanese cars. Datsun meant Dat soon? That soon? In leu of hire fast the producing line turned them out. Well now here we are in 2025. Japanese cars are the best with American cars at the bottom fighting for the lowest denominator. Now the jokes are Ford and dodge. It's not because we build them from all over. It's because when the world went small, we still made thunderbird as big as our backyards. How arrogant. BMW came out with a luxury sports coupe the M3. While we had the Lincoln continental which didn't fare well of this continent. Jokes on us I guess. But you see where we're going here. You have to sue Ford to get a transmission. You have to be a glutton for punishment if you buy a dodge. And you're certainly no car guy if you buy a Chevy. Corvette doesn't count as a Chevy. Tesla build quality is a joke but none bigger than the idiotic cyber truck. Stupidity has deep pockets. Jokes on us folks as Japanese cars especially the older ones are cool again and still freaking run! Love my toyota!

Up to the mid 70's Datsun maintained their cute rounded design. More kawaiii than any other cars in the world. Almost every single car for sale today is featureless blops with pointless agressive headlights for making up for cars that are through and through uninteresting. Today you sit in your car and wonder if you drive, or the car drives you. Thank god i have my 1996 Carina E. I want this car with me in the grave.

Datsun 120y sold like crazy in Nigeria in the 70s. We still had a lot of them on our roads as taxis even on the 90s. To cap it up, they were manufactured in Nigeria back then.
