My notes to help others. PREREQUISITES Square One Horse: The horse must have basic training, able to stop, start, and turn on command. Brakes: The horse must have good brakes established before introducing horseboarding. Rider Experience: The rider should have sufficient experience and balance for controlled riding. TRAINING 1) Initial Circle Work: - Designate a person as the boarder (ideally with horse experience). - Work in a flat field, starting at one end. - Have the horse circle the boarder at a distance of 15-20 meters. - The boarder should observe the horse's reactions closely. 2) Introduction to Towing: - Attach a line to the saddle or harness. - Have the boarder walk behind the horse, extending the line as it moves forward. - Encourage the horse to pull the boarder gently, simulating the feel of towing. - Stop after a few strides and release the tension gradually. - Repeat this exercise, increasing the duration slightly. 3) Desensitization to the Board: - Introduce the board to the horse gradually, keeping it hidden at first. - Walk the horse in a circle, carrying the board behind it. - Gradually bring the board closer, allowing the horse to get used to its presence. - Repeat this process until the horse is comfortable with the board nearby. 4) Combining Towing and the Board: - Attach the tow line to the saddle and have the boarder stand on the board. - Ask the horse to walk forward, pulling the boarder for a few strides. - Stop, release the tension, and repeat this exercise. - Gradually increase the duration and speed of the tows. 5) Simulated Falls: - Simulate the boarder falling off the board to desensitize the horse. - Continue towing exercises, gradually increasing the complexity. - Ensure the horse remains calm and responsive even if the boarder falls. ADDITIONAL TIPS - Positive Reinforcement: Use lots of praise and rewards throughout the training. - Gradual Progression: Introduce new elements slowly and build upon previous successes. - Safety First: Always prioritize safety for both horse and rider. - Observation: Pay close attention to the horse's reactions and adjust training accordingly. - Patience: Allow sufficient time for the horse to learn and adapt to horseboarding.

That is nothing new. 55 years ago I did suitecase surfing behind a horse. Our yard in front was always covered in pine straw. Took an old suitcase,a samsonite, broke it into two pieces. Put driving reins on bridle . Put a saddle on my horse. Took a lariat and tied the end to the handle of suitcase and put the loop over the horn. Sat in the suitcase and hollered yea haw . That was more fun than sledding. Wrapped myself around many pine trees throughout the years. Thanks for the memories that this stirred up ❤😂😂😂
