The Sheriff's lawsuit is destructive, dishonest, and unwise. The County is disgracing a once respectable institution.

Promoting crime under the guise of homelessness is just as illegal as the crimes themselves. There has now been four OD deaths since the county has announced they would not be enforcing laws because....homelessness. It is now too late to declare this a matter of life and death. They are now responsible for the deaths of four people. And they could not be more unapologetically defiant in their job duties.

Thank you Officers Hayden and McLachlan. We stand with Chief Boe. The rise in homelessness begs the question: what has shifted? It's not just law enforcement strategies, but also policies by Mayor Shilling and City Manager Bailon that have marginalized our community. Their actions have deeply impacted Burien, tarnishing its once-vibrant essence. It's disheartening to witness this deterioration.

The days of king county rulling Burien through its private military are over. We need law abiding law enforcement not agenda abiding policies. It is time Burien directly hire or elect its own police chief.

What a great event!

I have supported every levy over the last 20+ years. I have trusted that the council will use those proceeds in the most appropriate manner they can to maintain a decent standard of living for all citizens OF BURIEN. The county has now forced the voters of Burien to decide if a private police force is worth the money but also if it is needed to ensure the safety of everyone living in Burien, not just those in tents. At this point the only answer is to fire the county all together. They have provided cause and the only step missing is the property owners telling the coucil that it is what they want. I would be willing to pay twice the taxes in order to have a noncriminal, nonpolitical police force in our city. I would bet I am not the only tax payer in Burien that wants that. Thank you SKM for not disabling comments on this for once. It is important for everyone to know Dow's actions are not accepted by his constituants.

Being homeless is not illegal, but using land (public or private) without permission, damaging it, polluting, loitering - is illegal! We, people, pay taxes to keep our land safe and clean, so we, our children can walk safely, use land for recreational or other purposes.

If you refuse your job you can quit. There are only two choices. They gladly refused to chase criminals if they were in a vehicle because they didn't like a law and now they are refusing to arrest people attempting to claim public space as private. She is the Sheriff and not a judge. We need a Sheriff. It is time to hire someone for the job and not for the politics.

Arresting someone for being on public land is indeed illegal , that said however the problem arises when their " camping" activities spill over onto private lands as often happens. Having seen this first hand in this state that is an issue as they often damage these private properties. However there is no need for a special law , we already have laws to address this , if a person trespasses on private land the owner can call the police and have such persons arrested. So basically all I see here is grandstanding.

Thank you, Sheriff Cole-Tindall. I don’t know you, don’t live in your jurisdiction (or state), and don’t “have a dog in this fight,” as they say. But I am a retired law enforcement officer and I support anyone who wears a badge and stands up for the Constitution. Arresting people for being homeless is not just illegal, it’s immoral. Thank you for taking a stand.

I am deeply embarrassed by the actions of our city manager, Adolfo Bailon, and Mayor Kevin Shilling, for squandering our city's resources on this absurd plan. Let's invest our time and resources in initiatives that truly benefit our city, rather than wasting precious resources passing unenforceable laws. I challenge Adolfo Bailon to do something, ANYTHING to help the unhoused instead of this complete failure he has brought upon us all. The money is being wasted, and no one is being housed. Complete shame.

This needs to stop! What a disgusting sight it is to even pass by Burien. And the entitlement and lack of respect for small businesses who are trying to keep afloat is just awful. The homeless need to be respectful of the properties they are being allowed to spend the night to rest. Starting fires, peeing on the walls of buildings, doing drugs and leaving foils and needles everywhere in the piles they leave, the breaking in, etc., well no wonder they dont get into housing. They wont respect whats not theirs. They refuse to abide by the rules and dont think of anyone but themselves. And there is help even if they claim there isnt, its just not on par with the reckless habits they refuse to kick.

Time for Burien to get its own police force. Relying on the county for sherriffs is just making Burien more like Seattle. Only the county categorizes criminals as a protected class of homeless. The adults in WA do not. Citizens of Burien would probably be willing to pay their police a higher scale than Seattle if they weren't controlled by Seattle.

Finally a council member that supports law and not lawlessness. Burien hasn't had that in eight years. Here is to a speedy recovery of Burien. Now if they could just get out from under the thumb of Dow it will start to get safer as well.
