    I am a biracial half-white American, half-Japanese guy from Japan originally and just cis-male. I cannot pretend to be able to relate to your struggles but one thing I can relate to is the idea of being an ultimate minority... to find it difficult to find our "own kind". As a boy in Japan, people called me "Amerikajin" for my Caucasian features. I went to university in the US and people called me "Japanese" for my Asian ones. In both cases, I never could relate that well with people that others identified me with, and I used to be sensitive to stereotypes of both races. I never found my "own kind". I am the constant "foreigner". I'm also at a much higher risk of being suspected of crimes here in Japan. I went to a bar once and a guy instigated a fight with me (he didn't like gaijin -- foreigner -- even though I am originally from here). He started the fight and the police arrived and they instantly took his side since people who aren't pure Japanese are often assumed to be the troublemakers here in Japan, and I spent an overnight in jail while the other guy didn't for a fight I didn't even start (I was just defending myself). Maybe there are some overlaps here between us. One thing I always found helpful is to stop trying to conform to society's expectations of me. I used to try to mask the idea of being an "outsider", like dying my hair pure black in Japan to fit in better. When I did that I became invisible. It wasn't until I really embraced just who I was that I started being able to make lots of friends and get dates (in your case, I don't mean woman -- I mean man -- who you really think you are and express yourself as you wish). So I've come to believe strongly in embracing who we are... and for those of us who are perceived as different in society -- it helps to develop a thick skin and learn how to think in a way where we can shrug things off, not take things so personally. I found it a key to survival, and I benefitted a lot from studying philosophies like Stoicism which teach how to think in a way that makes us more able to bounce back on our feet, shrug things off, and for my case, just accept who I am -- flaws and all.

    • @AnonyMous-og3ct
      @AnonyMous-og3ct 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spencerqwashington I just realized I might have said something very inadvertently rude. I edited but when I mean being who we are and expressing who we are, I don't mean woman but who you believe you are -- a man in this case, and if the trans part is part of that, this too. The more comfortable we become with who we believe ourselves to be, the stronger our armor becomes and the fewer people can find kinks in it.

    • @AnonyMous-og3ct
      @AnonyMous-og3ct 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spencerqwashington Do you know the philosophy of Stoicism? I consider it a very manly philosophy -- adopted not only by Greek hoplites who fought against Persians but also emperors and slaves of Rome. I never found anything more helpful to me to cultivate positive thinking patterns, bounce back on my feet when life knocks me down, and develop patience in the face of adversity. There is an introductory video here (it initially starts out kind of boring and mystical but picks up to good parts later): th-cam.com/video/o0MzQZ_eFEY/w-d-xo.html

  • @AnonyMous-og3ct
    @AnonyMous-og3ct 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I realize this is quite an old video, but if you are still interested and haven't changed what you're doing much, I would actually suggest starting training more like a powerlifter. That means lift very heavy (close to your 1-rep max -- typically weights heavy enough for your body that you can't do more than 5 reps) and powerlifting motions with barbells like deadlift, squat, benchpress, barbell row, and overhead press. This also means longer rest intervals -- not 90 seconds and closer to 5+ minutes between sets, since lifting so heavy means that you need to be very fresh and well-rested for each set. It is very important to be very careful with your form with these since you are at higher risk of injury with heavier weights, and ideally you find someone to coach you to make sure you are doing these motions safely. I really think this is absolutely ideal for FtM because lifting close to your 1-rep max does several things: 1) Lifting a weight so relatively heavy for your body that you can only do 1-5 reps absolutely requires that you recruit the biggest and broadest muscles in your body: glutes, lats, hams, quads, pecs. That's going to add pounds of muscle to your body very rapidly since such huge muscles relative to your body don't need to relatively grow that much to add a significant amount to your overall muscle mass. You aren't going to gain that much overall mass quickly isolating relatively small muscles in your body like biceps or anterior delts with tiny dumbbells and bodyweight motions. This will also help to burn fat since muscles are energy-hungry, and so as you grow your largest muscles, you can afford to burn fat more easily without having to eat so much less. It'll be easier to cut and lean down the more pounds of muscle you have. 2) Lifting a weight so relatively heavy is going to recruit predominantly the strongest and largest muscles in your body, but also all sorts of other muscles including the weakest muscles in your body. If your forearms and grip strength are weak, for example, power lifts are going to rapidly accelerate their strength. Strengthening the weakest points of your body is going to skyrocket your ability to resist more in all sorts of motions. 3) Placing such mechanical tension on your body is going to rapidly increase your inter/intramuscular strength. Strength is not just about large muscles but also being able to coordinate them effectively. It's why Bruce Lee could do things like curl over 100lbs in spite of being a measly 130lbs skinny and lean guy who didn't eat so much (bigger guys twice that weight often can't even curl that much): he had tremendous muscular coordination. Lifting heavy rapidly trains that, and that also means that when you train with lighter weights on volume days, you will multiply the volume you can handle and also skyrocket your muscle growth. There is an excellent and free guide on 5x5 strong lifts which is an excellent starting point for this type of training if you're interested: stronglifts.com/5x5/ Once you do get the hang of this and skyrocket your strength and grow your largest muscles, then I think it helps to switch more to bodybuilder if your goal is more leanness and mass and more carefully sculpting specific parts of your body. But initially, I think this type of powerlifter training can rapidly give you the broad muscle mass and strength you missed out on after the hormone treatments for the transition.

    • @spencerqwashington
      @spencerqwashington 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the insight. I’ll look into it.

    • @AnonyMous-og3ct
      @AnonyMous-og3ct 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spencerqwashington Cheers! I hope I wasn't too nosy there. One other thing I might suggest is hand gripper training like this: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61Qt4LQAymL._AC_SL1200_.jpg It is a very cheap and simple piece of equipment you can carry around and use anywhere. The main reason I think this might help is that males and females vary wildly in grip strength. The strongest female athletes in the world tend to only have the grip strength of an average man (a measly 35kg or so). It's why they might still need help opening a pickle jar even if they are very strong and athletic elsewhere. The years before your transition might have left you with that sort of weak grip strength, but now that you have the testosterone, you might be able to rapidly increase your grip strength. When you do that, everything you do with the upper body is going to become easier: every type of lift, dips, pull-ups, crush someone's hand when you shake it, whatever you want to do.

  • @AnonyMous-og3ct
    @AnonyMous-og3ct 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I suppose it depends ultimately on what you want -- how you perceive yourself, and how you want to be perceived in society -- when it comes to how much you embrace or rebel from masculine culture. That can range all the way from how you dress to your posture, how you speak, and even how you think.

    • @spencerqwashington
      @spencerqwashington 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I definitely can agree to that. I think masculinity is a range

    • @AnonyMous-og3ct
      @AnonyMous-og3ct 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spencerqwashington On the concept of masculine fashion if you want to adopt it, the general anatomical differences between men and women tend to be square and angular vs. curvy. Clothing designed for these two different body types tend to, although blurry, accentuate and exaggerate these differences. The male anatomy tends to have a longer clavicle, broader shoulders, wider ribcage, and narrower hips. That tends to give a more square and angular appearance to the body. Lots of clothing designed for men tend to exaggerate that quality. For female anatomy, the ribcage tends to be narrower, clavicle shorter, shoulders narrower, the hips wider, the anterior tilt to the pelvis at a greater angle (along with lower lumbar spine), and higher overall body fat percentage. That tends to give a more curvy appearance with softer angles, and so I find lots of clothing designed for women exaggerating those qualities. Then there's a whole lot of artificial things that just seem completely arbitrary to me like arbitrary colors assigned as "masculine" or "feminine". I can't trace that back to our physiological differences whatsoever. But if you're trying to understand the broad differences, the basic anatomical differences might help guide you as to what sort of clothing brings out more masculine or feminine qualities.
