Modify Hobie wheel cart for easy kayak launching (tandem Oasis)
Launching kayak while it is on the modified wheel cart, and the wheel cart will be taken off after sitting on and going out to deeper water by using the bring-along paddle's handle. On the way back to the ramp, the wheel cart is inserted to kayak before reaching the ramp, make it ready to be pulled up back to the car.
Benefits include:
- Save time,
- Save energy
- Not to lifting heavy kayak up
- Stress-free at the boat ramp by preparing everything at the parking lot,
- Stress-free on arrival at the boat ramp when tired after the trip
- Loading free at the boat ramp

Kayaking-sailing to Sand island in the middle of Lake Macquarie (near Sydney, NSW, Australia) using "Swansea boat ramp". "Water Walking" when we got stuck in shallow water. Looking for Pelican Island, where pelicans gather together when the sun is set. On the way back, our kayak was going against the current, because the boat ramp we used was located in the narrow channel.

    Brilliant. I wonder if the 30cm wheels have too much buoyancy to make this work?

    This is brilliant. Not only the idea, but the presentation as well. All the information needed to do this is explained. I also appreciate seeing how the boat is rigged for sailing. The slip knot on the sheet is another great idea. Thanks!

    Why did u drill a hole in the paddle 18 cm up? why not just use the hole that is already there, close to the end? I see you using this in the video. Thanks again for a great idea.

    Hi, is it possible that in my 2020 Hobie Outback it may not work due to the narrower hole? I have a Tax 2 trolley with 30cm wheels can I use this wonderful modification yours? Thank You

    Love it! great idea. Unfortunately this mod doesnt work on newer Hobie kayaks. Specifically my Hobie Outback. Hobie reinforced the scupper holes so they are a little narrower and its just too tight to work, trust me, I tried...

      Hobie has different paddle’s handle sizes. I have 2 kayaks. They delivered to me two different sizes.

    Very creative. Well done! Is there any reason you could NOT also use the bungee modification method (many TH-cam videos) of installing the cart without rolling the boat on its side, should the launch conditions make that a better option? Since the female side of the paddle will fit outside the cart leg(s), you could install the Hobie screw in hooks for the bungee method. Again, I salute your creativity!

    • @bao-kayaksailing537
      @bao-kayaksailing537 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bungee method would make you wet when installing in the water.

    thanks for sharing your hack! I tried it but the wheel is so bouyant that i cannot seem to muster enough force to get the wheel underneath the kayak. When i was finally able to get one whee underneath the kayak, the kayak almost flipped over. I am using the hobie trax 2-30 cart (30cm wheels). Are you using the 24cm or the 30cm wheels?

    • @bao-kayaksailing537
      @bao-kayaksailing537 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I am using the 24cm. And there should be no water-current underneath the boat.

      @@bao-kayaksailing537 I deflated the wheels to about 2mmhg and now I can do it successfully! thank you!

    You sir are a genius! I have used the bungee cord method for putting them on easy, but getting them off in the water and back on before taking it out is always stressful. I don't want to drag the kayak on rocks or rough concrete and scratch the hull. I usually have to drop a rope through the scupper and pull the cart through. I pull a shoulder muscle staining every time. I will use your method. Love the simplicity. By the way, are you Cambodian? Your accent reminds me of one of my friends.
