Blast Overpressure Brain Injury in Mortar Soldiers + the Effect on Mental Health (with Todd Strader)
You are NOT your brain injury! Brain injuries can be considered a hidden injury, but what happens when someone doesn’t even realize they have one? It would be so overwhelming to have so many symptoms and not know where they are coming from. This is often the case for members of the military that are exposed to occupational low-level blast overpressure from firing heavy weapons like mortars and artillery, which has now been shown to cause brain trauma, but has not yet been widely understood.
In this episode, Cristabelle interviews Todd Strader about his personal journey as a veteran and advocate for awareness of brain injuries caused by low-level blast overpressure. Many veterans face challenges in obtaining recognition and treatment for these injuries, and Todd shares about his support community called “Overpressured” which has helped many find support. We also discuss the importance of understanding the connection between TBI and mental health issues, including PTSD and suicide, and how recognizing the brain injury brings hope. Todd shares his personal experiences with symptoms, and how it is important to be real with the struggles we face.

Important that this is finally being acknowledged within the veteran community. Countless soldiers who were doing their jobs suffered greatly because the injuries weren't recognized or addressed. Hopefully they'll soon be able to access the proper healthcare needed to treat those service connected injuries.

Thanks for your dialogue. My messy had been a burden beyond understanding until recently being diagnosed with TBI from MVA....it took 3 years before any Dr would say concussion! I've been getting great help in Tucson, AZ from SPARCC and Arizona Vision Therapy Center. Dr Amy Thomas is guiding me through my journey. She and her team have been wonderful. Syntonic lense therapy has shifted things in my brain. Structural Energetic therapist has adjusted my C1...a most intimate process. Great relief and comfort in my neck and head. Still emotionally out of balance but working on coping techniques. It's probably too late to salvage the friendships and relationships I've shattered with my irritability and outbursts of rage, but now I know why I was "that way"....A part of my messy. Less lonely is still lonely. J

I was discharged from the Army in 2007 and for the past 17 I've just thought I was a terrible person who could never do anything right. It started out small; just little things. But then it seemed like things got harder and harder, and I got crazier and crazier. My inability to control my emotions and behaviors ruined my marriage and almost all my friendships. I developed unbelievably unmanageable addictions. All of my bills piled up and collection agencies began coming after me. Not because I had no money, but because I just couldn't keep track of anything executive. I'm basically unemployable. I found myself alone, disillusioned, and hopeless. I became suicidal. It was just this last Monday that I was admitted to the VA psychiatric hospital. It was there that I learned about TBI and how my head injury, which was basically ignored by the Army (ibuprofen and a week in sick bay), could be the root cause of all of this. I can't believe it took me this long to make that connection. I feel like I've lost an entire life. I don't even know what to think right now. They start my cognitive and neurological testing next week. Omg I hope that things get better.

And how did it resolve it? Without pain killers and without brain surgery.... PLEASE answer me, or ask anyone... Did testosterone or any other hormone therapy helped anyone that had EXTREME migranes but only when is weather change.... Of course a lot of others serious TBI symptoms are present, but surviving this "migranes" without pain killers is suicidal.... Help me please, any info is appreciate

I may have had 8 decent nights sleep since my fall on ice in 2009! Had sleep study at Dartmouth and all they talked about how I don't need a CPAP! I told them before going in from working in a sleep study group in the 90's that I didn't need it! I just need to sleep but with my 8-9 concussions (which were finally diagnosed in 2013) I have multiple sleep disturbances from 30-80 per night probably from my TBIs...😵🥱 Exhausted, brain fatigue, brain fog, can't remember things, wake up about 10 hours after being up, storms barometric pressure, knock me on my butt, almost vegetation state!! life stinks!! Which don't Get me wrong So very happy for them. I would not wish this on the People. that did this to me Even. Hate the sin, not the sinner.. I need to see real stories on. Fellow survivors who Didn't get so lucky. Like the dark side coming to light if ever.. Trillions of us end up homeless and judged Re. Abused. Even re abused by State housing and State team. People that are too help you. Getting turned down for E Every.. Thing period because you are below poverty and are. Alone and disposable. You're literally told that. And while on the worst lowest insurance that you cannot get the help that you need, nor have the money to do what you need to do to heal. Not even a drug addict or alcoholic. Just. Trying to survive. Consent survival mode. Retromatized after retromatizes. I watch these videos in hopes, but my insurance will not be enough. To take advice for doctors and such.. Need videos of the hard hellish stuff like this like me and if there's hope there seems to be no hope. It's been so long now. Too long, too tired. And that is a understatement. These videos people seem to care, but they are behind their screens.
