Excel VLOOKUP Tutorial: Find Data in Seconds!
VLOOKUP is a function in Excel that allows you to search for a value in the first column of a range (table or range of cells), and then return a value in the same row from a specified column. It stands for "Vertical Lookup."
Here is how the VLOOKUP function is structured in Excel: =VLOOKUP(lookup_value, table_array, col_index_num, [range_lookup])
lookup_value: This is the value you want to search for in the first column of the table.
table_array: This is the range of cells that contains the data you want to search. The first column in the range should contain the lookup values.
col_index_num: This is the column number in the table_array from which you want to retrieve the value.
range_lookup: This is an optional argument. If set to TRUE or omitted, VLOOKUP will look for an approximate match. If set to FALSE, VLOOKUP will only look for an exact match.
Here is an example: Assume you have a table with student names in column A and their corresponding scores in column B. You can use the VLOOKUP function to find the score of a specific student by searching for their name in column A and retrieving the corresponding score from column B.
=VLOOKUP("John", A1:B10, 2, FALSE)
=VLOOKUP("John", A1:B10, 2, TRUE)
