Not yet. It's joined the pile of maybe consoles. This board was already in semi-poor condition when I got it. Someone attempted a reflow without a jig so it was pretty warped which made it difficult for the RSX to sit properly.

They're very hard to find now. Best bet is to harvest from a super slim

There is a motherboard revision that is more likely to delaminate during the rework process even after baking the boards. We suspect this to be due to poor storage over time and moisture damage that can't be reversed. These are all that revision.

I mean they're the same conditions Sony refurb centers used when repairing under warranty and returning it to the consumer. So I suspect someone intended for them in the design process. The only difference is the passage of time, we're 10+ years into the future where many have been stored poorly.

@lollol673 Some cartridges arrive with extensive corrosion or oxidation across the PCB. Isopropyl and a qtip are less effective for cleaning under chips and over larger areas. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Nah, couple of things to note here. First it's a dead 90nm (so it doesn't matter), second I applied heat before doing this and third the adhesive on the 90s isn't nearly strong enough to pull the VRAM. 65nm and 40nm are a completely different story though, I use the razor blade method with those off the board to delid. The biggest risk in this shot is actually denting the interposer with the force from wedging, but again it's a dead 90 coming off the board so the only thing I care about is protecting the BGA pads on the motherboard itself.

This is pretty much the way everyone delids 90s. Id smash them off with a hammer if that wouldn't hurt the motherboard. Just out of curiosity, how do you recommend delidding an RSX @nsc-modz

Some frankies get a rare NoPS2 issue. Sometimes reballing the EEGS fixes it. The cause is not 100% known though

@@Rambonz2 Hmm, had no idea! Does the console turn on normally and only present a problem when trying to run PS2 games when this happens?

@@razmann4k Yea it's rare but once you make a frankie the real test of if it's "alive" is if you can get a PS2 game to load. 90% of the time its fine but we do get this weird NoPS2 issue that has no known direct cause. We don't know if its hardware or software related. Various things fix it for various people, so really just shooting in the dark.

@@helloitspatryk1855yeah, gpu fails a lot on these consoles. He is replacing them with a more reliable version of the gpu

It's a fix for a faulty GPU. But the new GPU can be overclocked slightly higher than the standard 90nm RSX GPU. So I guess technically yes, but it's mostly a way of repairing a dead console.
