It was time to answer the call of adventure in the flinders ranges but first the Honda 250 Rally required some love and attention. New chain, sprockets and rear tyre. I was super excited for the 4 day solo adventure motorbike trip with the main aim to ride Skytrek at Willow springs. The plan for Day 1 was to ride through Clare valley, Wirrabara conservation park and complete the very scenic bridle track in the southern flinders ranges before ending the day at Argadells station.
The scenery was superb and after a quick fuel stop in Laura, I hit the dirt roads Wirrabara forest. Some great flowing tracks quickly got me to Germein Gorge with some very fun turns through the Gorge. Most likely an ancient trail used by the Indigeous Nukunu people of the area. The bridle track became the way early European settlers with packhorses descend to the waters of the Spencer Gulf. In 1879 the road through Germein Gorge opened and became the main access to the coast.
The wind was howling at the top but I managed a quick snack while taking in the superb views. The afternoon had more excellent riding in store as I made my way through Melrose and the southern flinders to my campsite at Argadels station. With the prospect of rain during the night I had an early supper and settled in for a stormy and sleepless night.
First light revealed a rainy windy day but luckily I only had really short ride to willow springs. The sunrise made for some epic landscape scenes.Upon check in. I was informed by the friendly staff that due to all the rain sky trek was closed for the day but will hopefully be open the next day. With more rain expected during the day and a night of now sleep I decided to take a nap, get to know the locals and take in the scenery I will be riding throughThe cloud finally cleared in the late afternoon and I knew that tomorrow would be game on.
Sky trek is an 80km loop 4x4 track on willow spring station with some of the best views in the Flinders Ranges. After check in at reception and a briefing on the track I was ready to go.
The first part of the track winds along the creek bed with some beautiful rock formations and natural springs. There are also several well described point of interest along the way.The track then opens up into some expansive valleys with incredible vistas. I stopped at Old Moxan’s Hut that was permanently occupied by a station employee up to the early 1960’s. I tried to imagine how it must have been living out here looking after the sheep.
As I turned the northern corner of the track I was in for my first rocky road test. Heading south again on the now flowing track revealed more superb views and the hills I will shortly tackle. It was with a mix of nerves and excitement that I headed into the last section.Topping out on prominent hill after the tricky technical climb was incredible. The 360 degree view of the mountain ranges was just awe inspiring.
The last challenge was signing the visitors book on Upalinna Lookout.
I headed back to the station check in to pick up my gear. Sky trek exceeded all my expectations and was now one of my favourite tracks. I completed the track in about 4. 5hours but you should really give yourself a whole day to explore this track and take in the views. With a few hours of daylight left I decided to ride to Brachina Gorge before my stay at Wilpena pound. Again the view was just superb
With the campfire going my heart was full and over flowing with gratitude for the epic day. I had one more stop to make before I headed back to Adelaide.
Arkaroo Rock is a significant aboriginal painting site that depicts creation stories for aspects of the many geological features found in Ikara-Wilpena Pound and was a lovely stop
I wished I had 4 more days to explore, but I drove back to Adelaide with a new found respect for the pioneers present and past that made this rugged but beautiful landscape their home. As the rain came down it was time to put down the camera, thank for watching catch you in the next one.

With the temperature pushing into the 30 and the wind sleeping in it was time to hit the water and explore the sea cliffs around second valley. Our plan was to paddle board from second valley to rapid bay, stopping along the way to explore sea caves and hidden beaches. It felt fantastic to be on the water as we slowly started paddling past the jetty to the second valley headland. We had a brief...

I decided to head south on an Adventure motorbike and camping trip exploring the Fleurieu Peninsula. Winding through the beautiful Adelaide Hills I ride past wineries and historical towns such as Hahndorf known for its German heritage. I spend the night next to the camp fire and sleeping under the stars on a farm stay near Victor Harbour. The next day is spent exploring and I make stops at a st...

It was time to break away, recharge and head north east again on my Honda CRF250 Rally and had my eye on a stunning location. But my first challenge was to chase the sun to my camping spot on a farm stay close to Tarlee, the gateway to the Clare Valley and on the way I hit a big mile stone on the rally. After coffee it was time to dodge the flies and keep heading North East. I had my pick of fu...

Nice trip can i ask what saddlebags you are using
Hi, on the sides 250 SW-Motech dry-bags that I use with a Green Chile Adventure Gear Scramble Rack Strap. In the middle my Hyperlite backpack strapped to my rear rack.
Beautiful country!
Sure is! Worthy of several trips I reckon.
My knees hurt looking at Mike riding, your saddle is way too low. Besides that, the vision is epic, very jealous of your adventure
Hahaha yes we caught on to that eventually :)
Really enjoyed this Cheers
Thank you!
Good video mate, Well done 👍👍
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic adventure! Thank you for creating the vid. What's the best map option for the sky and surrounding tracks?
I used Gaia GPS for Skytrek and Avenza maps for surrounding areas. When you check in for Skytrek at reception they will also give you a map and explain the route.
Excellent mate! Thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you! Stoked that you enjoyed it.
Great stuff... thanks for sharing. Cheers ears. :)
My pleasure!
Awesome mate you captured the beauty of the Flinders nicely.
Thanks! Looking forward to exploring further next time :)
I’ve enjoyed your videos. I’m looking forward to doing the Mawson in May next year with Bike SA. Just wondered if you considered panniers to carry your gear- it looked quite hard with backpacks.
Hi, glad you enjoyed the videos. We are doing a few more days soon and invested in some seat bags and frame bags to carry our sleeping gear, food and clothes. Our first trip was an impulsive decision and we only carried some clothes for the trip as we slept in motels and eating out. The backpacks where light and got us over the line, but I am looking forward to the next trip with proper bike packing bags :) Enjoy your ride!
Smiling samoyed is my brother's brewery 👌😁
Lucky you :) Loved it!
Where exactly is the trail 8-10 min mark that is stunning. The gap rd but whoch section from walker flat? Love your vids you've inspired me I'm buying a Suzuki 800de in November
Hi Mate, that is Old Burra road going over camels hump range from Clare to Burra. Here is a link to my Gaia GPS site, you can export a GPX file to ride my route. Enjoy the new bike, hope you have some amazing adventures! www.gaiagps.com/map/?loc=8.4/138.5736/-34.3611&pubLink=WkAuwuuiGOoRHiKHpAG07uVH&trackId=ec652c24-c473-4dcb-bee3-aba424d9e984
Mooi so man 💯
Lekker tye !
You're inspiring some trails I will be taking thank you 🙏
Great. Hope you have some epic adventures!
Excellent.
Thank you! Cheers!
Big effort there gents, great experience. I don't want to "mansplain" BUT Mike needs to put his seat up about 20mm, it will improve the ride considerably. Good luck for the next section.
Thank you for the tip! I will pass it on to him. Looking forward to the next section :)
Well done. I live in Clare and have been cycling around the area for 38 years. Enjoy the Mawson trail and surrounding trails.
We will, thank you. Looking forward to the next stretch!
It's tragic when your favourite cafe is closed after some hard riding. The Riverton cafe has some nice treats too. Enjoying the vids
Yes it was a bitter pill to swallow :) Thanks for the compliment on vids. Hopefully I can get to editing the next one soon.
Go mike Go !!
Such a beautiful video. 😍 Glad I can enjoy the trip from my couch 😅 Well done!
Haha, glad you enjoyed it
Awesome mate..now there's something I'd like to have a crack at. Look forward to more of the trip and great colours at the lookout 👍
More to come! The lookout was so good. I have done a few bits on the motorbike but the mountain bike is unique in it's own way.
What an idyllic day out! Definitely wanna give this a try.
Go for it!
Some really nice spots there mate. Nice riding. Fellow adelaide guy here 👍
Thanks mate, see you on the trails
Beautiful surrounds and looks like such a fun ride!
Well worth it!
What bike is that - (just discovered your channel…)?
Hi, it is a Honda CRF250 Rally
Hey well filmed and edited where was the road around the 7 minute mark before you diverted to the new norton summit road?
Thank you! The dirt road bit is Mount Ephraim road. If you look in the video description there is a link to Gaia GPS and you can see the entire route.
Thank you for the video. It reminds me when I lived in South Australia.
Glad you enjoyed it
Ah exactly like you said Peet! The rewards of a 24 hour adventure - great stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it. Micro adventures to the rescue :)
Awesome! Thanks for sharing... :)
My pleasure!
Hi everybody… I already watched your video and I’m very impressed. Please tell me witsch camp tat is… 🤔 Greetings from 🇨🇭
Hi, thank you for the complement. It is the buffels hoek camp. There is a link in the description to the website.
Very well done indeed 🇦🇺👍
Thank you!
The roads out the mid north are a bit underestimated. Lots of dirt to explore an some nice scenery to add to the ride.
Very true!
Great looking day out there 👍
Yes it was perfect weather. Spring is the best time to ride in SA in my opinion. Enjoyed your vid on Little Desert !
Good music!
Thanks mate, Giants and Pilgrims
Did you visit “Worlds End”? It’s past Burra, quite interesting spot. Old ghost town.
I just had a quick look around and did not camp the night. Maybe that was a good thing :)
I recognise that accent 😉 damn its nice, after watching many dry and dusty Australian adventure videos to see some greenery!
Lekker!
Great ride with awesome scenery. We do love your part of the country, but always seem to be in a mad rush to be somewhere, so don’t get to really take it in. Camera mount is good as it allows us to see the varying speeds you’re hunting along at. (I find it an interesting comparison, probably no one else does though). Looking forward to seeing more.
Thank you, also some good wine!
Very enjoyable. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
We're fortunate to have some lovely little spots not far from Adelaide to explore and camp at.
Yes there are lots to choose from. Beach, hills, river, outback feels....Can't wait for summer I think beach camping is high on the list.
Great content and scenery. Was camping in Burra recently on the bike
Two questions , what maps did you use to find dirt tracks? And also love the music used in your clip , who are the bands/ musicians ?
Burra is on my list to do soon. Any good camping spots to suggest? I use an app called Avenza Maps. You can then down load maps that are essentially digital versions of old paper maps so all the dirt and 4x4 track are marked with colour or line type. The app plots your location on the map similar to google maps. The band is mostly Gaints & Pilgrims. If you give me a time stamp I can tell you more specifically.
Great video, brought back some great memories of Manyeleti and the wonderful hospitality of Lynn and Dudley (2 amazing people)
Yes they are!
Lovely country. Nice trip mate...
It was, thanks for watching!
Great video. Lions sightings were really good. Looks like the Manyeleti has less wildlife density than the Kruger. May I ask what's the name of your guide? I'll be in Buffelshoek in two weeks.
Enjoy every moment! It was my closest lion sighting ever. Our guides where Mpho and Baxton (hope I spelled it correct guys)
Wonderful to see this video having recently returned from Buffelshoek in the Manyeleti! We had very similar sightings x a wonderful experience. Thank you for sharing 😊
Glad you enjoyed the video! Buffelshoek and Manyeleti has a special place in our hearts now.
Left signal stuck i guess ^^ whole video
Hate when it happens :)
This is good!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another nice video, if I can make a suggestion, is stop and show the small towns in the outback. Thanks for sharing
Great idea, thanks for the tip!
Great ride, very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Very nice trough the back roads. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
