A hidden gem for motorcycle touring in Ireland

0:00 Getting there
3:15 The Abbey
Quin Abbey, in Quin, County Clare, Ireland, was built between 1402 and 1433 by Sioda Cam MacNamara, for Fathers Purcell and Mooney, friars of the Franciscan order. Although mostly roofless, the structure of the abbey is relatively well preserved. There is an intact cloister, and many other surviving architectural features make the friary of significant historical value
A far earlier monastery had existed on the site but burned down in 1278. A Norman castle was built soon after by Thomas de Clare, a military commander. The foundations of the castle's enormous corner towers can still be seen.
Around 1350 the castle, by then a ruin, was rebuilt as a church by the McNamara clan. The abbey was rebuilt using the south curtain-wall of the old castle. It was this structure which the MacNamaras subsequently rebuilt as the present abbey, properly called a friary.
In 1541, during the Reformation, King Henry VIII confiscated the friary and it passed into the hands of Conor O'Brian, Earl of Thomond. In about 1590 the MacNamaras regained control of the site and once again set about repairing and restoring it.
In about 1640 the building became a college and is alleged to have had 800 students. Oliver Cromwell arrived only 10 years later, brutally murdering the friars and destroying the friary.
In 1671 the building was once again restored, but never regained its former status.
Eventually in 1760 the friars were expelled, although the last Friar, John Hogan, remained there until his death in 1820, by which time the buildings were ruined by neglect.
A visitor centre is located near the building and the structure and grounds can be visited free of charge. A caretaker is permanently based at the monument. Floodlighting has recently been installed. The graveyard surrounding the friary is still in use.
The abbey is roughly 14 kilometres (8.7 miles) from Ennis town.

Why do suzuki and honda choose to sculp their headlights directly from satan's head? I guess it's because this world IS under his influence and control.... for now.
'How to adjust your chain in 2 minutes' without giving any relevant information and using the wrong tools. Big fail!
What are the standard cost tyres like ? I've heard they are shit.
yes improvement buddy xbob
Just bought a 650f, it’s had a hard life. Just finished stripping it to the frame. Looking forward to the build with some new bits.. haven’t even got a license.. so looking forward to getting that sorted in spring when the bike will be complete and sparkling again.
This was my first bike, same color scheme and everything. Wish I never sold it as I loved the mix of ergonomics and comfort with that smooth power delivery. Might get another and if not I'm looking at the new gsx-8r
That chain didnt need adjustment. As soon as the bike came off the center stand, the slack tightened up.
Anyone with heigh issues get a rebel 500. Pretty beginner friendly and is a2 compliant.
Awesome job! Thanks for keeping the video short and to the point :)

Poti te rog sa adaugi si limba rimana la subtitrari? Muktumesc!
Great bike! I have the same
@DaveTube i was wondering how is your experience with tyre quality on this one? I saw some people complain how slippery they can feel on wet road? Awesome video btw
You shouldnt have to soldier the wires
got 1 myself its gorgeous...and the whistle so good to hear
1.88, 120 kg, beginner. Do you recommend it?
Nice vid and review. I've had one since 2014, bought it from new. Now on 37kmiles. Only ever had one issue, which was a seized fan, which insorted myself. Really reliable, goes very well, and also handles well. I have recently bought a Z1000sx. I just can't sell the Gsx yet, as its such a good bike. Safe riding 🤘
good vibes good vibes 😂
What type of wrench socket is it is?
Great video fella 👍🏼 I Just bought a Tiger 800 It handles great and is well balanced 😊 Mine is 2014 model and has a noise when it hits 40mph but it disappears after 50 ish. Power is good but defo needs a 7th gear or and road configuration for touring 😢
great review, i recently bought the same model 2011 with a few extras, spot lights, alluminium belly pan, handle bar risers etc. the seat has 3 setting to set for yourself, its on the bottom of the seat itself, i recently moved up from a honda hornet cb 600 f to the 800 triumph, no regrets, the comfort and power is all there, it also takes the bmw connection for usb power output. the front end i find very light with full paniers also. they give off a big profile with the paniers on as you say cars see you quicker. but yeas again grest review il be holding onto my triumph for a while as there so enjoyable to ride.
Thanks mate, ride safe!
thanks for the video boi. I've a 2010 Bandit 1250 myself, was my first bike really. Been driving the Bandit for over a year, it's a heavy bike but like you said, once actually driving it's just rock-solid. Unfortunately though, yesterday when I was parking it and went to do a semi-circle swing around the bike dropped on me. Minimal damage, still gutted though! When the Bandit wants to fall that's that! I fully get your remark on the throttle! When I first got the Bandit 1250 I thought there was something wrong with it, because like that, you let the throttle off and it's instantly OFF! No wind-down as you said. So the GSX650F is just a 650 Bandit? Same weight/handling everything?
I bought a 2013 ABS VERSION last month . AND I LOVE THE solid feel of her. Really enjoyed your review.
What was done to this bike to lower it
shit video!! poorly done!
nice video mate! question please: I need to replace the sump nut it's all rounded and it won't adjust fine. is it an M8 or what size?, I can't find it in the manual.. thanks!
so you do not need to tighten the adjusting nuts after the axel nuts have been tightened?
How do you stop chain going tight when tightening wheel nut?
Hi davetube, thank you for video,I'm using same motorcycle, I want know how to change engine idling speed, mine is showing 1800rpm after start (Neutral gear)motorcycle,I want to put 1500rpm,could you please upload video for my problem many thanks.
Just bought this as my first bike, it's used but it was in great condition. I'm very pleased with it. I got it in green, it's so flashy!
Thanks, pal!
Best review on TH-cam about the tiger, your video was the first one I watched when I was looking for information about the machine when I fell in love with the model 😅
Where did you get those side mirrors? I've been looking for some handlebar mirrors for my BN for ages and can't find any that fit
hi! Where can I buy that cover you have for your headlights?
Volevo acquistarla anchio ...ma ho visto che la sognora tocca a malapena le punte dei piedi a terra...io se non metto entrambi i piedi appoggiati bene a terra non mi sento socura. Quindi dovrò prenderne in altra😥
credo che il benelli TNT 125 è più basso e anche più corto
Im 6ft wilk it be good?
Always tempting to get something latest and greatest but these gen 1 800s are incredible value. Simple enough to do maintenance at home, enough power to have a blast and comfort for days on end. There’s really no need for more electronics than abs, especially if you want to keep a joke for years and many miles. I’m even apprehensive about ride by wire, it feels slow compared to the direct response of cable throttles.
Personally I’d want my chain a bit tighter then that especially on a sports bike a dirt bike I usually like to have close to 2 inches of slack but a motorcycle only like to have maybe a little more then a inch
Using center stand to adjust chain slack is not advised, since chain is not loaded as it would be if you'd use a rear stand.
Depends on the bike, look in the manual.
But its not loaded if you use a paddock stand
Is this legal?
I need todo this too mine!🙌
Which one do you recommend? Benelli BN 125 or TNT 125?
Anyone reading this, fist pull out the curved tube on admission bellow your seat, it will make a huge difference in therms of sound
Any details? More Info pls We all need more
@@Rick_SanchezZZZ No special instructions, just pull that piece of curve plastic and you will see instant differences. I guess is to pass the dB control on factory. To be honest I was sceptic too, just try it.
@silver_surfer88 This piece is bellow the passenger’s seat ?
this peace is below the passenger’s seat ?
@@g4tt076 no, the driver seat
I thought it looked ok before
Thank you for the review…… now top of my list to buy atm for my first bike!! But has your GF still got this bike? How has it stood the test of time? Has it been reliable? Thanks again 😊👍
Great review! Just put a deposit on a 2011 model, having never ridden one. Off to the Pyrenees at the end of the summer with the aim to take on some of the TET. Can’t wait 🙌
Great video!
You're so nice to listen to. I'm 5'2 and have had 600s, 1000s, ktm supermotos, superduke etc and managed to ride all of them. If there's a will there's a way. The tall supermotos aren't fun when stopped but it can be done. I have a 28" inseam and anything over about 34" on a sportbike and 37" on a supermoto is too high.
Agree with virtually all you say but the handling deteriorates at high speed when the panniers are fitted. Loaded panniers cause the handlebars wag disconcertingly so careful weight distribution is necessary. Also, handling in strong crosswinds (only) when the panniers are fitted can be extremely scary. A taller screen is essential - I've tried the tall Triumph screen but that didn’t cure the problem of buffeting at motorway speeds. Love my Tiger 800 and had it for 12 years, which speaks for itself. I do most of my own maintenance. Highly recommended purchase.
