    I think you're right about the ECU being water damaged. I feel like there is a lot on this vehicle that has been touched or played around with so you've got a big job on your hands. Regarding the crank, it sounds very slow for an M57. I've had two of these in the past in an X6 and X5 and they cranked quite a bit faster. Not sure if the starter is on the way out or you still have a voltage issue with the new battery. Best of luck!

    • @TurningSpannerz
      @TurningSpannerz 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the comment, looking online it seems to be quite a common issue, another issue they seem to suffer from is diesel leaking through one of the fuel sensors and running through the wiring into the ecu and filling it with diesel. As for the battery I think it may have a drain on the system, where I had been working around the car with the doors open I think this also impacted on the voltage when cranking as all the interior lights were on and a few other components running. Fingers crossed we can bring it back to life as these are a great car.

    Thanks again for the great video. Some folks recommend driving a few miles before starting the charger - just wondering if you could fit an on/off switch on the 12V signal cable i.e. to turn the charger on/off? I suppose the way that you've set it up you could just use the re-settable fuse?

    • @TurningSpannerz
      @TurningSpannerz หลายเดือนก่อน

      No problem! Glad it helps. Some of the latest lithium auxiliary batteries can be viewed via blue tooth and you can look at their condition through the battery app (manufacturer depending) Sterling batteries do this. I don't think you will need to worry about an on/off switch as the smart chargers will manage themselves, I have never had an issue with them. The chargers can also be programmed to meet your individual needs, you can set min/max voltage and all sorts of other features too from memory.

  • @francismartin6073
    @francismartin6073 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks - awed [looks really expert - you do this for a living?] - thinking of trying to do this - what could possibly go wrong! 1) Just wondering if you installed anything to tell you how much charge was in the leisure battery --- 0% ---50% ---100%? 2) I see some people use piggy back fuses i.e. rather than splicing the 12V signal cable. Which slots are already used i.e. which have live when ignitions & vice versa? 3) Your simple clear video reminds me of this - cheap/simple blade fuse holder - th-cam.com/video/r6-DzqyQoT8/w-d-xo.html

    • @TurningSpannerz
      @TurningSpannerz หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Francis, thanks for the comment 😀 I have also fitted Victron smart chargers (did one for my dads previous VW Transporter) and this had an app via bluetooth that monitored both the vehicle main battery and the auxiliary battery, along with some other great features. Really handy if your not directly in the vehicle either. I didn't fit anything because I use the power for lighting and tool charging which when flat I just run the vehicle. You could get a cheaper digital voltage gauge and wire that into the system so at a glance you could see the current Voltage. I would just ensure that you use the appropriately rated cable and fuses. You could use the piggy back style fuses, I didn't use this because the fuse board under the seat on the Crafter has a cover on the other side that with this fitted would not allow the cover to be fitted. I also made another video on connector types for wiring that could be useful to you: th-cam.com/video/UD5HFsn_9Ds/w-d-xo.html

      @@TurningSpannerz Thank you for the detailed reply. "You could get a cheaper digital voltage gauge and wire that into the system so at a glance you could see the current Voltage." Yes, I could probably get by using voltage monitoring. I've noticed some folks are using a shunt and a small display e.g. if you've 100AMP battery storage then you program that to 100%. I think this type of setup is perhaps £50.

      Hey GT86, The Sealey unit is slightly less powerful, I mainly use the Sealey tool to run down the threads and then hand tools to break the bolt/nut loose and also to finish the tightening process, great for cam covers, timing chests etc. For the price of the Sealey one I have been really pleased with the product. Having heavily used but not owned any other cordless ratchets I thought I would give this a try but I at least wanted a brand I knew. If you register it on purchase it does come with one years warranty, I will be looking to purchase other tools in the range and may well review those to for people.

So the one I have as you say comes from the sump and is a green wire with a yellow trace and a bullet style connector fitting. If you look at the positive battery terminal side look at the bottom of the battery on this side and it is coming out of the main wiring loom in that area. There are also some other plugs there too. Let me know if you find it, if not I will grab some pictures for you.

    Make sure you check the restrictions have been removed just behind the inlet rubbers, they make a big difference 😉

    my 1994 gsxr1100 didnt look as nice as yours but it ran like a raped ape. back then i ran Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa (race take-offs) on the street since i never rode in the rain and loved them.

    Sounds like the pilot jets are a little fured up but not serious, the lumpy running will mostly be the airbox rubber. Once that is back on you could balance the carbs but I would leave it until after filters, oil change and checking the valves as you will need to do it again after those anyway. Looks like it was a well cared for bike, all the bolts are OEM which are the first place a bodger starts spoiling things.

      Thanks for the comment, I believe it was well looked after and like you mentioned it's great to see mostly genuine bolts, I will probably grab a fairing bolt kit as they seem to be a bit mismatched. Yes, it will need some maintenance which I will film as well. The paintwork has some imperfections in places but overall is ok.

      Thank you for your comment! It definitely needs a good go over but like you say at least it hasn’t been “got at”

    I saw Kevin Swantz race the actual Lucky Strike no. 34 Suzuki many times at Donington, Silverstone and Brands. He was the Marc Marquez of the late 80's / early 90's. So acrobatic that they named the corner after him at Donington where we saw him almost lose the bike. The number 34 was retired from MotoGP numbering with him. Richard

      Hi Richard, Thanks for the comment. I bet that was absolutely amazing to watch, a great bit of insight thank you!

    If the fuel supply valve was clogged you definitely need to check the carbs as well. I'd would have done it anyway. Used to have an air/oil cooled GSXR-1100 back in the nineties btw. You seem to have a good taste 😉
