Welcome, My name is Ricky and here on TH-cam I make easy to digest short videos that are about something or someone from History. My main focus is Northern California since that is where I was raised and know more about but I occasionally expand to other western states such as Oregon Nevada and Washington (Which is where I currently reside) My videos are story based and not hard fact based. I don't care about dates and names as much as I care about the story. I was a C and D student in History class back in Middle and High School, the reason for that was teachers are required to teach according to standards and instead of us learning ideas and stories we are tested on how well we can memorize dates and names then regurgitate them back. I notice that basic history is not known by many people, not because they are dumb (as some would have you believe) but rather they were taught in a faulty way. I hope that through this I can make History entertaining and satisfy your curiosity.
The Rise and Fall of Hoboken: California's Forgotten Boomtown
“Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die.”
“Carpe Diem”
“Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a-flying; And this same flower that smiles today Tomorrow will be dying.”
What do all of these sayings have in common?
They can describe the city in California nearby Sacramento that boomed for just a month. The people knew it wouldn't last, but at the time Sacramento was uninhabitable so they did the most American thing there is and shook the mud off their boots rose to the occasion and made the most of a bad situation. What city am I talking about?
Hoboken, and this is no jokin'

Here before this channel explodes! Keep it coming Ricky, this was quality information.
Thanks! Someday it will. Just a matter of time. 😎
Aweome
LPDO 8 Satisfactory 💪
Good job, Ricky. We visited it recently. Alfred Hart, CPRR photographer, took photos here, 1864-5. and yes, Strobridge lost an eye here. More photos can be found on CPRR Museum online. Thanks, from Darrell, an "Original Transcon RR" enthusiast. And, the myth of "Chinese being lowered at Cape Horn in baskets to set charges", is totally debunked. 😇 Subscribed.
St. Croix is pronounced "Saint Croy" and he came from the Danish West Indies not Dutch. Do not use this video as a source.
Great episode bro, kutgw
No outtro? "Thanks for listening everybody, till the next one" somthin?? 😂 all in all excellent info! Glad someone finally laid him to rest but did he really deserve it? 🤔
I used to do an outro but most people click off at that point which tells TH-cam that the video isn't good enough to watch in totality which brings my "rating" down. 🧐
Sannon Tonio!
Well to this Carver That's some WAY 😎"NEWS'. COUSIN NEWS😉🗞️📰😉
Satisfactory! F.C.R. 5978 & Pair-o-dice 7-11

A journalist at a bar? Nothing changes.
Maybe i should visit there?
Angels Camp is a nice little town. I like it.
I've been to the Frog Jump a few times, it's sooo hot there.
I grew up there lol lots of flat landers that cant drive around a corner or drive up a hill without slowing down and causing everyone to give them the finger for being a idiot come to visit and see the fair hahaha. People coming to see us jump bull frog's lmfao 🤣 i mean how does this actually come up on youtube, or the history Channel. Gold country!!
My show is based on NorCal history and sometimes surrounding states like Oregon and Washington. (My car's engine overheated one time in Calaveras going up one of those hills ha ha)
@rickymortensen my dad owns a transmission repair business Here lmfao I just moved back a year ago from texas lol love it keep up the good work
If you were alive in the 80's you recognize that melody. "C'mon Eileen" 😊
I'm unconvinced the racists running the country particularly care what flavour of brown you are.
Wrong, The hawaiians attacked us.
I know, in the full video you actually hear the story. Kamahemeh wanted unification and chose force. After taking over multiple islands then Maui then Oahu. This cliff portion happened by the Hawaiians to the Oahu fighters who were also mixed with the other fallen islands mainly Maui.
@CarrboroJoe yep

Monterey Viejo 1846 here since 1986.
Interesting!

I noticed mention of "big daddy Longmire getting along with the natives and just a little later a statement he laid claim to a large portion of the hot springs to build his hotel on. Guess those natives weren't getting along with him too well after that incursion upon their traditional "healing springs". LOL
I'm sure they "shared" ha ha.
Hi, i enjoed the story, and your presentation good job.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It's all true, Dyer Lane is haunted !! I personally have witnessed the ghost Sheriff's Patrol car appear out of nowhere behind me and when I went to pull over it passed me and disappeared Into Thin Air !!
Most Satisfactory. Hello Ricky, I’m ninth president of the chapter here in Sacramento. I’ve been a clamper will be 33 years in June. I really enjoyed your podcast and I will be following you. Thank you very much. If you ever in Sacramento, let me know. Like to meet you bring some gold dust and we will turn it into liquid assets. John A. Sutter Chapter 1841, XNGH #9 Kevin (Stinky) Jenkins.

Very interesting, I really enjoyed this video! I can’t wait till you compile all your information about Joaquin Marietta. I heard that he used to hang up behind our mission in Santa Barbara.
SATISFACTORY ch#10 Nevada city
Amazing stuff!!
great job ricky.
Glad to see you're still uploading! If you're looking for any delegation for script writing or research, I'm a lover of interesting history like this. I believe it can be used as a tool for general education for a lot of people who are failed by organized educational systems. No pressure, of course! Keep up the great work!
Video editing is also one of my skills, so please don't hesitate to ask
Yep, still uploading. I work a lot so I do this show when I have free time. In terms of research, I'm just about done with my next story but if you'd like to help out. The following story will be on Yankee Jim.
@@geese5170 that's cool. What software do you use?
@@rickymortensen I use Filmora Pro or Premiere for my editing. Either one works for me if it improves your workflow
I didn't get a notification of your reply, I just saw this. I use premiere as well.
Great video! Your presentation is great, but I would love if you included where you found the information you're sharing. This is a personal thing, but it does help me understand the history slightly better. Keep it up!
For this video it was a book. www.abebooks.com/9780964251335/King-Queen-River-Legendary-Paddle-Wheel-0964251337/plp
