I gave him a birthday card the last time Styx played Thunder Bay. I got his attention and he came over and turned around bent over. I had his rear end in my face and I wanted to slap it but out of respect for his wife I didn't. I just passed it through his legs.

Gowan said "only good things come out from Thunder Bay". You replied with a little quirk about what you got from Thunder Bay, that wasn't funny. TMI guys Still like the channel

I've met Gowan, meet and greet at the West End Cultural Center in Winnipeg. This was before he joined Styx. I first became a fan when he was on tour for "The Great Dirty World" it was at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay. I just liked going to concerts and I didn't even know who he was. Oh! He asked me what happened to my wrists when I met him. I just said oh nothing. Well I had golfers wrists and tennis elbows because of being a waitress. Repetitive motion from pouring coffee and bringing their orders.

No one can say this young man has had the “rockstar” glamor life. Scott even told Howard Stern finances weren’t all that great and that interview was only a few years removed from STP and Velvet Revolver’s height. So there probably wasn’t much left, if anything for Noah. Like the interviewer said,he lost his dad …and in a horrific fashion. His mom was / is an addict too. So he dealt with that and their divorce. Plus growing up in that superficial so-cal culture where no one has a pulse or soul. An entire state full of people devoid of empathy. Probably got a text when his pa passed from a few people saying “that sucks, dude. I’m here if ya need me” and then never followed up again because that would kill the party vibes. Just surrounded by hollow and surface level interactions. All I think when I read both his mom and dad’s books was “that poor kid. I hope he’s okay.” This kid has a bigger story outside of his dads legacy. Seems like he does this empty pop cloud rap stuff to be as different from his dad as possible. He’s better than that. Hopefully as he matures as a musician, he can study what made his father great and apply it without feeling threatened like he’s trying to step into his fathers shoes. His dad created masterpieces like Kitchenware and Candy Bars, Pretty Penny, Still Remains, Sour Girl, to Unglued, Tumble in the Rough, Tripping on a hole in a paper heart, Down, Sex & Violence, Hollywood B****, Fall to Pieces, etc etc etc. Endless classics. He doesn’t have to work a stage dancing and try to write the same type of music, but damn, there’s an treasure trove of lessons to draw from. Album to album, Scott was a music nerd and knew how to take sounds from the past and present and put an entirely fresh spin on it. No.4 being in drop D for instance, but still keeping their groove, bounce, and catchiness. They never felt like they were running on fumes to come up with something fresh. He cited Bieber as his main influence these days, and although JB is talented, there’s so many more great artists from the 70s, 80s, 90s, etc to study. Seems like Noah’s library is limited based on his music and even interviews like this when he discusses music. He has all the raw tools, has an interesting story, and seems to have the drive to want to make it through music…from what I hear from his releases so far it just seems like he skipped his homework and his studies on music and has a limited creative palette to draw from at the moment. I’m curious to see what he would come up with if he just locked himself in a room for a month or two with no phone, TV, video games, and just listened to a wide range of classics and obscure records from the 60s and then worked his way up by the decade. I think that would do wonders for his creativity. That’s the only thing he’s missing and imo what’s preventing him from crossing the bridge to being a full-time paid musician. Rooting for the boy to put it together

Bill still owes me a cigarette. Seriously, he bummed one off of me in Davenport Iowa on their Angel Dust tour. Meeting the band all because Patton told me to meet them at the bus after the show. I was wearing a white Primus Suck on This t-shirt and Mike P said it was nice to see someone else who liked Primus. The whole band was really gracious and it was amazing to talk briefly to Billy about playing bass. A gigantic highlight of my youth.

I, too, was 11 in March of 1983. I remember the moment. I'm at my grandma's house. It is a Saturday, and there is an American bandstand in the afternoon. Dick Clark had started showing videos on the show. That day was Duran!! I sat in my grandma's gold leather chair. I pulled up close to the TV. And I have witnessed. Is there something I should know? Yes, there is, this band in all their glory!! My DD 🎉 birthday.

Lars screwed bands like yours, and those signed on Ipecac, and you're an idiot for championing him. Want the reality? Before Napster, bands, and fans use to make tapes, and send them to one another. Metallica use to have people record their shows, and bootleg copies of them around to one another. What's the difference between that, and people ripping CDs, and posting them online for free? I'll tell you what it is. First, it's semipermanent, as opposed to in some kid's pocket. Another difference, is that Mike Patton's projects would be in the same categories/search results/repositories as Metallica's. And, what is a band's biggest issue? GAINING EXPOSURE TO FANS! That is why Dickhead Ulrich wanted Napster dead! Whose going to buy "Load", when they can listen to it for free, and find out Fatomas is making music 80,000x more adventurous, and rebellious! PS: I listen to EVERYTHING on TH-cam before I buy a band's CDs, or go see them. The only difference between that, and Napster, is that TH-cam didn't make any ad revenue (that they didn't share with the bands) from plays on Napster. Still think killing it was a good idea?
