Hi, i was wondering how Big the kite is? I am also Racing on a j/111 (super Fun boat to sail and race btw), but i just thought your boatspeed was quite slow for 18-28 knots or whatever it was, because We hit 10 knots quite easy with the kite up in lower winds than 18-28 knots. However when We sail in stronger winds like 18-28 knots more specificly 22 knots We hit an 18,8 knot top speed and around 14-15 avg. On the downwind. It is super Fun to see another Crew race the same boat, so i Can se the differences in manovers and boat handling. Keep up the good work❤

When raising the asymmetrical at 15:00 why is the driver heading so high? It's absolutely abhorrent to see the whole crew struggling for 5 minutes and the spin is still not fully raised, and keeping flogging all the time. Why does the skipper still not realize the problem after all this time? His course is way too high for the asymmetrical. He needs to head down 10 degrees or so so the crew could sail peacefully for a leg and then drop and head up. Unfortunately they just endured that flogging asym for so long and finally had to douse it anyway

@@yangyang3175 we were trying to get around a headland, heading deeper would have taken us in the wrong direction. I agree we could go deep for a while to get the spinnaker up and then hit a tighter angle. In the end it was the wrong sail choice for the course we needed.

@@obsidian_sag_harbor No - just an old fella trying to learn how to sail and having some with some friends I sail out of a place called Motueka at the top of the south Island. Beautiful place- and we are so fortunate to have the Abel Tasman to sail/ holiday in. A national park gifted to the country by a wealthy woman years ago. Went out last week in a choppy 15 knots to just have a play and see if we could figure out exactly what some of these ropes do just by changing one thing at a time. ...WOW what a difference the outhaul makes!!! It was like pushing the accelerator on a car in those conditions. Look forward to seeing you guys out on the water again and gaining more insights in new videos in a few months. Having been a tactician on a J111 for 5 years and having done 27 Whitebread races, there is so much I can say about this video, but in the simplest terms, why isn't everybody hiking all of the time? Half the time, the boat is over 30 degrees and there are 2 or 3 people in the cockpit. The helmsman, in breeze, should never be steering from leeward, the traveler needs to be moved up and down much more, the main trimmer should be doing the backstay (not the guy in orange), when the chute is up you need to sail higher to keep it full (and to prevent it from wrapping around the headstay), on spinnaker runs the jib should be down. The start was pin favored and the course went left on a close reach, but you started at the boat and had the jib in as if it were a beat, you didn't bear off enough when trying to set the chute, the chute (which was banded) shouldn't have been trimmed until the mast man yelled "MADE". This video is a perfect opportunity for teaching how to get better. I have more comments if you want to hear them.

@@obsidian_sag_harbor I'm just watching this again a month later. Looking at the inclinometer I have to wonder, is the team really racing or just out for a Saturday sail? You are , at times heeled over 35 degrees and not a single butt moves out , and the girl is still facing in. Does anyone know that you'll go a half knot faster and 5 degrees higher if everyone flattened the boat? If you'd ever like to go over this video scene by scene, I'm sure I could move you up at least 3 or 4 places.

Thank you for sharing this! I am not sure what's going on at 14:27 and 2:11:00 though, wouldn't it be easier to turn to port a bit (i.e. follow the spinnaker)? That's what we would do on our J22. But maybe it's different on a J111. Or maybe you just like the heeling of the boat, and give the spinnaker a good rinse :) But seriously, I'm curious if that's on purpose or not, or am I missing something?

Always interesting watching your videos, it reminds me so much of my experience on board our boat. We have a MAT 1070 racing boat, and occasionally have to resort to a few choice words during the race. A couple of observations/comments if you are interested. When tacking we always prepare the new winch with 2 or 3 turns (depending on wind strength) and always put the winch handle in. Through the tack the sheet is eased, the crew pull in on the new winch as much as possible and then immediately the guy that has released comes across and starts grinding in, then the final wrap is put around the winch and locked off. Then final fine tuning can take place. I think this saves vital seconds during every tack - the winch handle is already in the winch and no time is lost winching in the sail. I raced on a Swan 45 yesterday and they use the same process. Also noticed that the final winching/trimming is often done by Jodi which looks very hard to do, there are plenty of guys on board who I am sure have more muscle power - Chris for instance. Someone else has mentioned bare feet. In the previous video Jodi's hair was dangling loose, I think could at some point get caught in a sheet/winch/ block - not a nice thing to happen. During gybing with the spi noticed that the winch handle is removed from the winch and placed in the pocket. gybe takes place and then the winch handle at some point is placed in the new working winch - by this point a little late - why not transfer the winch handle straight away from one winch to the other - and then it is immediately ready for when the load comes on the new sheet. And finally when you are sailing under spi, possibly when a bit tight to the wind, have someone briefed/dedicated to easing the vang, ensure they know how it works and ready to ease in an instance. Apologies for the long comment, hope you view it positively. For all that you do very well in the regattas. It would be nice to sail with you sometime but I am based in Calpe, Spain., so a little too far to travel.

I’m not familiar with the J111, but generally it depends on your sails, rigg and sail mode. And of course wind speed and sea state. North Sails (afair) has a few analysis videos from different (corinthian) regattas (different boats). Can be helpfull.
