is that md pallavi singing as part of the chorus? i know she worked a lot with the ananthaswami family during her initial days. this clip looks quite old from what i can hear from the audio quality. and if i am not wrong, this song has a bit of a political undertone to it, and kurigallu is the kannada word for sheep, so that says it all. keep in mind, i am still in a learning stage when it comes to kannada, but i am beginning to grasp some words here and there slowly. and also keep in mind that i have 0 indian background at all. yet learning languages is so fascinating for me. i can sing in almost 80 81 or maybe 82 languages in total as of now ( the list gets updated from time to time so the number may change here and there ) so therfore in my case, music and languages go hand in hand for me. i guess being born in a persian family with two different ethnicities does lay out the course of your natural tallent when it comes to languages and music. hear is the deal: i was born ( and still live ) in Sweden to iranian parrents ( kurdish on my mother's side and azeri on my father's side ) yet our linguafranca at home is persian or farsi, then off course naturally Swedish became my second language and i learned english along the way, not only thanks to children's tv shows that my aunty taped on vhs from london, ( oh yes remember those big video cassetes that you would put in your small tvs back in the early 90 or 2000S? oh yeah those were the times before youtube and social media even existed ) but also thanks to the Swedish education system that has english as a compulsory subject from 6 or 7th grade or somewhere around that, so that was a pluss for me. my journey with hindi i can say was a life long process that has culminated in a fiew years only. it started back in 2002 3 4 or something, when iranian tv stations broadcasted hindi film songs during weekends, and without missing a beat, i would be glued to the tv screen not missing a single song. what i would do later when learning hindi was to try to find translations of song lyrics and pick it up from there. you can say i am self tought in hindi. i did not go to a teacher at all, instead i learned from tutorials on youtube and looking at song lyrics translations to get me going. off course one thing to note here is that urdu and to some extent hindi carry a lot of persian lone words, so it was very very easy for me to get a hint of what's going on in a converesation. speaking of the connection between india and iran, the avesta language and vedic sanskrit are so closely related to eachother, just replace some sounds of avesta and you have sanskrit already ( its a long story, maybe i should write about it in another comment here on youtube ) so my journey with indian music is very long, and i have plans to become a playback singer in the indian film industry, and in what ever language it may be, wether bollywood or south, or any other. there are many singers who are my favourites, such as Asha Bhosle or Anwesshaa, but i believe the biggest influence on me is non other then the one the only padmashri KAilash Kher. ( oh yeah baby, this comment will not be complete without my story of how i discovered this great singer, so here we go! ) it was back in 2016 spring if i am not wrong, when i was hooked on the song holi re from the amir khan starer film mangal pandey the rising, composed by the mozart of madrass himself doctor A R Rahman. off course, i have heard rahman's name, but i did not know what a legend he was until much later. so there i was doing my thing, listening to this song, when i said to myself: hang on, lets explore the soundtrack and see what it has to offer, so i did. and the first thing that i heard was the theme tune to mangal pandey. i sat up and took notice at once. i said to myself: this singer has a rustic element to his voice, kind of like what singers from rajasthan and punjab would have, so i thought lets google and see what we get, and there was Kailash Kher. off course, i have heard his name before, but never really payed any heed to it up on till now, so this was very familier to me. one part of my brain said: is that Kailash Kher? wow! and the other part of my brain said, oh off course its Kailash Kher, how could i be so stupid? so here comes this singer and turns my life 360 degrees around and completely changes my life ( wich i did not even expect at all ) and finally after listening to the soundtrack of a film called aankhon dekhi and my favourite song aayi bahaar, i said to myself: that's it! i have found my idol! i was hooked at once, and now thanks to singers like Kailash Kher, i have finally decided to make my playback dreams come true. its thanks to platforms like youtube and social media that i am able to share my musical tallent with the rest of the world, and your support on the internet means a lot to me. so with all of your support, i can make my playback dreams come true for real. lets hope that this pandemic will be over so that i can come to india and perform some day. i have been to india back in 2016, but it was a very short stay, so hopefully i might be able to come back again? you'll never know, let's wait and see. till then stay safe, and we'll be through this all together. till then stay safe, and maybe i will see you all in india soon. hello from an iranian woman all the way from Sweden: Nicki Rafiei.
