You can say that again.
Hey george. Is it possible to turn your mic up for future videos, this video was really quiet for me.
I can hear it perfectly. I don't know what's going on? Putin probably has a secret weapon turning everyone deaf.
@ lol. Good ole Putin. I usually don’t listen with my headset on is why it was so quiet. No biggie.
I make OWS games at my work. They always seem wayyyyyy complicated lol
Your volume is very low. I enjoy your videos but would be great if you could crank up the volume.
Excellent points, George! Thanks
Having an excellent opponent like yourself, and doing a few rulebook dives helps immensely. Thanks for the games Monty.
So are those GMT storage containers?
@@jonclark299 yes sir! I bought the shortly before the pandemics hit us.
Hey George, not a Mac guy, PC/Windows guy through and through. 😁 I worked in server/super computer design (based on Intel x86 architecture) for a couple decades. I don't have a Dell, I'm also a PC gamer so I build my own PCs. I don't do laptops, the aren't powerful enough to do much, and become obsolete doorsteps in ~12 months. Laptops are also generally more expensive than a decent gaming PC. I should do a video about computers I guess. 😂
@@ASLAcademy up here in Canada the cost of memory and good graphics cards are super expensive. I build a couple of PCs in my day including one with Linux. Still have the Linux and I might just go back to it.
Regarding your counters, though the Planos seem to take up a lot of space, those GMT style trays will take up much more, unless ou start mixing counter types in each cell... But that will add confusion that you're trying to avoid by organising! If you have a 3D printer, make some counter trays like I did on my channel, it is the most space-efficient way to store counters by a long shot
Turns out that the 1/2 inch counters fit perfectly for each nationality that I own. The 5/8ths inch counters are a different story. For the Germans I managed to fit all the AFVs into two trays sorted according to gun caliber. Ultimately, I have managed to save some space for now compared to where I was before. I am not a fan of 3D storage for 2 reasons: a) strength, and b) cost. Thanks for the question, I'll do a part II - stay tuned.
It seems to me that organizing of ASL components is a hobby all its own. I love seeing how other people tackle this task...it helps me pick and choose from different approaches that may work for me. I look forward to more videos in future as you progress with this.
I stand corrected @ approx 1:05:10
46 mins in - you do know the Partizans have MOL George??
@@stevehall9333 yup and I am not sure if I recorded the entire video where one partisan MMC rolled a 6 on the MOL availability dr. Did you ever have to decide between whether a HS or a full squad should check for the MOL?
1:12:56 Your six doesn't break the squad and add a flame, that only happens on a subsequent IFT Coloured dice 6...
@georgehiotis Must have at some point but it's generally with PF !
Enjoyable video, thanks George, more like it please !! I'm playing it soon, this has given me a few ideas ( I'm playing Partizans)..
Hi George, Thank you so much for your video review. I am so pleased you like and enjoy my book. All the Best, Rodger
a nice take on the asl modules. It's hard to put in place as beyond Valor required by all. For me I am starting with asl starter kit. I have most asl core modules, but the cost of some is extortionate. I want to work with the historical modules and as newbie more solo play so trying to see what solo modules exist. Nice stream and as you say everyone has their own objective view on modules. East front my preference area of battle as the west by 44 the allies are up against weakened German units as the east front absorbs 80 percentage of German resources. Can I stop the russian steam roller.
I’d rank Rising Sun a little higher only because it’s mandatory for PTO. If you don’t like playing PTO then B/C is probably good.
A little bias there with Doomed Battalions 😂
Shh 🤫
Nice review and well done. Nice strategy ... after human waves didn't work you advanced under cover. Especially your large flanking move to the left.
Hi George, as ever, thank you for the instructive and very entertaining video on an important topic in the ASLSK-ASL graduation process :). Just two quick notes since a lot of new arrivals might watch this: Snap Shots: You don't get FFMO or FFNAM when using snap shots as per A8.15. So most shots will have no modifiers apart from leadership direction or SMOKE. Bypass Movement: In your example, the German infantry bypassing the woods might have gotten a nasty farewell present from one of the British squads! As per A4.34, potential defensive firers need only have LOS to EITHER of the vertexes traversed while bypassing, so the rightmost British squad could very likely have first fired for a whopping 4 down 2 shot (FFNAM and FFMO). So beware when bypassing that you are actually out of LOS! Keep it up and have a gerat Sunday, Michael
@@TiltingAtCthulhu thank you for the correction. I have pinned this comment for all to see and read.
Have not pulled the trigger on this one yet, but it's definitely on the list. Thanks for the overview.

I’ve seen WW2 half tracks in real life. They are smaller than you think.
gogol1st did correctly identify the lag and I'm sorry for the video quality. I've decided to keep it as my verbal commentary is valid, and if you follow the sequence of events the video will instruct you on how to do better. I used to have a great computer for the longest time 2014 to 2022 (roughly) on Win10. By 2023 the start button started to fail and I had to 'upgrade'. I can safely tell you that my present computer on Win 11 is a flop in terms of operating system and the hardware required to run it correctly. Microsoft has its ups and downs. We are on a down trend. Also, finances aren't as easy as they used to be. So I'll continue to do the best with what I have. Thank you for your support.
only the first minute is fluid , after that it s like 1 frame per minute
Thanks for letting me know. I may have to remove the video and redo.
as a game designer, i can say this game design is bad because of complexity. but awesome because it is the best « anecdote factory » ever. you can tale each game in detail and it makes epic stories
Interesting geoboard that Carpiquet. Don't think I've seen that one before. I think the Case Merkur map has a better representation of the airfield, a large brown mass vice standard road depictions, but still a nice addition.

16:00 Today I learned that George is a Nickelback fan (right video list). 😂 Concerning SS counter colors, it's an old, tired argument. If people don't like it that's their right, but to have someone insinuate that you might be a N a z i because you play with black colored pieces of paper is one of the dumbest things I've heard in quite some time. How do these people feel about German counters with the SS logo on them? I guess that's acceptable. Anyway, I've always been curious why these same people don't get up in arms about the Japenese counters being yellow ...
@@ASLAcademy I have an eclecting taste for music. Typically, I love tunes that have a sense of a Crescendo of Doom in them.
When is ASL going to move on into the computer world. I don't have a room I can dedicate to the game and ban the cat. I don't have to worry about missing parts or coffee stained maps. I will not have to have my math checked or spend more more time in the rule book then maneuvering my units in the game.

I'm currently on original SL and about to start Cross of Iron. I'll work my way through the old boxes before starting ASL. I just can't imagine starting out with starter kits being nearly as much fun. It's like playing a video game on It's original console. I love it.
@@caritup Good luck with your journey. I also started with the original Squad Leader and left the original game after COI.
I bought the original SL when it came out in 1976 or 1977 when it came out. I followed the series up until it turned into ASL, then life and other things got in the way and I lost track of the game. However it's always been interesting to me the history of this game, and it is quite amazing that the game continues to carry on and it's thriving still today! It's going on 50 years! I always look at SL/ASL as "The Grand Daddy" of tactical style board war games. Even though I don't play it, I have great respect for the game and the community that supports it.👍Much respect from me!
George, thanks for uploading. I appreciate your very interesting comments. Rather enlightning. About the size of the Aussie championship trophy: I'm quite sure there's more to it than most people realize. 1) Aussies have in general a great humour. 2) The most important sports trophy Aussies cherish to win every two years is the "Ashes." It's the smallest sports trophy in the world and is only about 10 cm high plus a wooden base of about 5 cm. It's actually an urn containing ashes. England play Australia in a series of Cricket called in short the "Ashes." This has been going on for over 100 years. Winning that wee trophy is the non plus ultra for the English or Aussies. So size does matter 😂 It's only a question of perspective.
I like ASL. It is my favorite game.
A one hour plus video on my blog post is quite a compliment, thank you. I looked at stats for the blog this morning and saw that overnight there was a spike in readers of the ASL post and found your video. With over 18,000 views to date, it's certainly generated a lot of interest. The key point you miss is that the article is my personal piece on why I stopped playing - it's a blog, it's what you do. It's not a reason why anyone else should do so.
Thank you for enlightening me on this very important point. However, the honor is not mine - it is the persons that misrepresent your blog as a piece to justify their dislike for ASL. One hundred and twenty six views don't justify 18K reads on your end or hardly a spike. Knowing this you may want to edit your piece to convey more clearly this point. Also, allow me to be perfectly clear that I support your decision to adopt another game system and complement your great modeling skills. Best of luck to you in all your endeavors.
@@georgehiotis I had a small spike of 25 overnight - the original post has had 18k+ views since I posted it in 2020.
I'm certainly not going to stop playing because one rando on the internet doesn't care for it. If people started doing that then everyone would start hating everything...oh, wait... 😁
The premise seems flawed, the only thing that "validates" why ASL is 'a successful game' would be sales figures, and given that it is still on shelves in all its glory 40 years after its debut, I should think case closed. I can't think of anything more tedious to read than a treatise on why I'm choosing to have fun wrong.
@@HandGrenadeDivision I subscribed to your channel and enjoy your videos.
It's a treatise about why I chose not to play, not why you should. It's a blog, it's what people do. The premise is hardly flawed seeing as the premise is me and how I judge a game I want to play. Your choice is to share my opinion or not. In either case it is only ever just our opinion, in the same way it's just your opinion that the only thing that validates a successful game is sales figures.
ASL is still the most popular and played traditional hex and counter wargame today, by a wide margin. 40 years later. I'd say it's doing ok.
You had a close shave, Mr. Van Gogh.

Thanks for this George. I'm always forgetting Fanatic units do not Disrupt or Cower.
Incredible that fanaticism in ASL is summed up in so few words. And can be such a great impact on many a game!
George, always good information. I enjoy your videos greatly. I think you might have forgotten to halve the assault by the two 546s against a concealed unit though. They are doubled for point blank and halved for firing in the Assault Fire Phase. But, they have to be halved again for the concealed units. So, it would be 5 x 2=10, but then 10/2=5, as you noted. Then the 5 is halved due to the concealed unit, so 5/2=2 1/2, FRU to 3 and 1 added for the assault fire bonus for 4. Since there are 2 units, it is then 4+4=8. The attack would be on the 8 column, not the 12. Hopefully I've got that right. Thanks for all your videos.
Thank you. I greatly appreciate your feedback.
Doesn't what you're saying about the Hero's ability to use the BAZ (which is correct) apply to ANY SW which usually requires 2 SMC? >>A15.23 WEAPONS USE: A hero may use a non-MG [errata included] SW as if he were a leader but applies a -1 DRM to its To Hit or IFT DR. In addition, a hero uses a SW normally requiring two men to fire by adding +1 to its To Hit or IFT DR as appropriate (which is negated by the heroic DRM).<< Okay - you make reference to this rule later on in the vid, so I take it back! lol
This appears to be correct and I question myself why the unique rule for a Baz. I will have to research and see if the same holds true for a panzershrek and PIAT.
@@georgehiotis 13.48 PANZERSCHRECK (PSK):All BAZ rules apply to the PSK35 except that the latter does not fire WP, has its own To Hit Table printed on the back of its counter, has an IFT effect of 12 (see 8.31), resolves So Yes for the Schrek and any SMC can fire a PIAT at full effect. 13.62 SMC USAGE: A PIAT can be used by a SMC at full effect with no penalty, although no leadership modifier would apply unless a non-firing leader directed the attack.
