Genuine Wii Sensor Bar converted to USB for Dolphin
มุมมอง 18K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a short video that explains how to convert two Wii Sensor Bars to a USB powered one. Recommend using some much smaller wire then I used in the video.

    Useless manual! All You need is original Wii Sensor Bar and step up USB converter from Ali. Just cut Ori Nintendo plug, solder wires to converter and set 7.5V on converter. THATS ALL. Plug it to TV 5V 1A USB in.

    I have the same bar with 5 LEDs on each side and I replaced the end of the Wii cable with a USB, the PC did not recognize it correctly The only thing I did was remove one LED from each side and bridge that part to complete the series circuit, leaving 4 LEDs per side. It worked perfectly without needing to do anything else Dolphin recognizes it and it is very precise I hope someone finds this information useful.

      "Conversion Header", "IR Connection" ??? We're just going from one power source to another to light up some LED's, that's all the "Wii Sensor Bar" does. Yes the LED's are IR, but I think calling it an IR connection is a bit of a stretch.

      the only things the sensor bar does is light up some LEDs. There's no connection besides power.

    Okay im so confused, how can i turn the oem sensor bar (it has 5 leds) to USB? Its 5 each side, i tried connecting it to USB on my pc but the little lighst dont turn on (when seen thru a camera) Thank you

      I was thinking, to do this on the OG board inside the sensor bar you could just remove the resistir And 1 LED and this should be enough to make it work with USB at 5v right? I'm trying to make sense of this

    • @marklarner4495

      Wii Sensor Bar is 2 series of 5 LEDs with resistor. The one on my video is 3 series of 4 LEDs sans resistor. So you have to butcher to OEMs to get one to do it this way. I would really recommend just getting a USB one from Amazon if you are just wanting the product not the journey : )

    • @homebrewGT2
      @homebrewGT2 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I want the journey haha, I am very interested in knowing why making 3 series instead of two works better for 5v (removing the resistor I think). Like wouldn't this In theory require more electricity? Instead of removing led you are adding them, that's what's confusing me here...

    • @homebrewGT2
      @homebrewGT2 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For example, the og bar works with 7 volts from the Wii, and because the 2 series consume 6.x v on each series... You have to add a resistor to make up for the extra voltage, however in my head I'm thinking since you have 10 leds shouldn't this in theory consume 12volts? If each takes 1.25 or 1.5v ? Or is it that splitting the 10 LED into 2 series just somehow multiplies the 7 volts by 2 and immediately because it is a series of 2 divides it and by bird magic you get 7 volts for series 1 and 7 volts for series 2... I'm sloop confused.

    • @marklarner4495
      @marklarner4495 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@homebrewGT2 the number of LEDS in a series divides the volts, the number of series divides the amps. There’s plenty of amps to run many more series, but when it comes to amps, it only takes what it needs. As opposed to volts that you have to use resistors if the volts are too much.

    Hi, maybe I'm late to ask but i was trying to modify my Wii bar too, I'm quite new to circuits and i was wondering how did you get 6.15V for the leds? The two parallel series of leds + resistor each get 7.235V and 87 mA, the resistor is 24 Ohm so to my knowledge the voltage that the resistor removes is 24 Ohm * 0.0875 A = 2.1V so 7.235 - 2.1 = 5.135V is what's left for the leds? I can't find a 7.5V power supply so i necessarily need to change the circuit. One more question, is a 5V 1A power bank too much? In your mod you provide more than twice the necessary current so i don't get if i should care about it or not.

  • @user-yk1cw8im4h

    Why cut the oil with alcohol?

    • @marklarner4495
      @marklarner4495 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not an expert on this, but I believe it would be too hot otherwise. You would run the risk of turning the outside gummy. Cutting with alcohol slows things down so it can evenly penetrate the whole part. Plus, it doesn't hurt that it makes the solution a lot cheaper.

    • @marklarner4495

      As long as you run the LEDs in a series of four then no, you do not need to use a resistor. If you have series of less then you will.

      If you’re asking if there’s a way to add a port to the sensor bar the answer is you can but I wouldn’t, it’s just asking a lot from one USB power supply, especially since it’s a constant draw.

    • @Druid_Plow
      @Druid_Plow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did my mod, and I think the way I did mine would be much easier for other to replicate. I simply removed the center LED and 24 ohm resistors from the existing PCBs in the sensor bar, then added jumpers in their empty spaces. replaced the plug with a USB type A, and it's working perfectly. no need to modify the case, cram in extra wire or cut up bread boards. And can even be reverted to original as simply as it was altered.

    Thanks for posting, very helpful. Before seeing your video I had always read that as "Methyl" but now I see from the container label it could instead actually be "Menthyl" so I'm glad you showed that. I had to look up the difference and here is what the wikidiff shows: menthyl (organic chemistry, especially in combination) A radical derived from menthol methyl (organic compound) The univalent hydrocarbon radical, CH3, formally derived from methane by the loss of a hydrogen atom; a compound or part of a compound formed by the attachment of such a radical. So maybe I'd better source mine by the name Wintergreen Oil rather than by chemical name to avoid confusion. Thanks for the reminder about toxicology - in some other videos on this topic people seem not so careful.
