I had a bad first impression from the first episode and kept trying to schedule time to watch the rest, but glad to hear your review so I don’t spend more time on it. Yes, the original book and movie are classics and I still don’t get why they felt the need to make the new series. Thanks for sharing :)

@@importanttrivia wow I’m so glad you enjoyed it too! I saw it in San Antonio; and yes Petula Clark was absolutely riveting. I was just a kid at the time, and I didn’t know anything about her, but hearing her belting out “Tell Me It’s Not True” and “Easy Terms” told me I was in the presence of greatness! I’ve listened to all the other Mrs. Johnstones over the years but Petula will always be the most perfectly cast of them all, in my opinion. She was an amazing Norma Desmond as well; her “As If We Never Said Goodbye” puts me away!

I saw Blood Brothers with Petula 8 times, 7 on Broadway,one on tour. I saw her in Sunset Boulevard 4 times. 2 years ago I saw her in London as the Bird woman in Mary Poppins on her 90th birthday. She was nominated for an Olivier for her performance.

@@hnc52 wow that’s amazing that you had so many opportunities to see Petula live on stage! I myself have only seen her on this BB tour, but it spoke volumes about her acting and singing versatility! What an iconic star! “Downtown” may be her biggest claim to fame but I’m so glad she’s been able to shine in so many musicals as well!

@@pennytill5183 haha well I actually did eat in the dining car - all the shots of food were in the dining car, but it wasn’t the busy dining car for coach passengers, but rather the Sleeping. Car dining car; since I was one of the only Sleeping Car guests on the train, it was only me and a few of the others on it :) but it was still a dining car nonetheless! :)

@DerrickDuck I went to a rock concert in September and chose to drive 2.5 hours to Boston rather than take a 90 minute train to NYC. And I hate driving.

@@tomburns8441 you’re welcome! It cost $945 but gives a lot of Amtrak reward points so other shorter, coach rides can be free. It’s not customary to tip the staff, who you likely won’t see much of as things are sort of automated. Like when you sit down for dinner your meal is already there with your name on it and no staff will be in the area at all. Enjoy!

@@peterconrad6135 well I’m not much of a “foodie,” so I tend to think any food is good as long as it’s free - as it was for first class passengers on Amtrak. I did try most of the flexible meals (there were five) and even though I’m easily pleased I still thought they were all delicious. I never needed to go to the coach cafe for additional food as I was well fed and pleasantly surprised. But for a food connoisseur, they’d likely think it was similar to McDonald’s or Burger King haha. It was tasty but not haute cuisine :)

@ yeah they certainly have limited space here. The good news is the toilet is always clean because there was a whole bunch of shampoo falling on it haha

@DerrickDuck 😂😂😂 That's what I tell my wife when she asks me to clean the shower. The soap got me clean so how can the shower be dirty?

@ I quite like it myself. What I like is how there’s been moments where Tita has tried to stick up for herself even if she never succeeds, it shows that she’s at her limit already and wants people like Rosaura and Elena to know it

What I find interesting is that in “ Tita’s diary” she is not shy about how much she dislikes Elena. That scene where she was told to hide while Elena held off the rebels, for example, she admits that sye was disappointed to come out of hiding and fine Elena still standing. It sounds unkind but Elena is the reason we have things like child protective services

@ Mama Elena is such a complex villain. I like how the book and original movie certainly made her a monster but also showed that she had lost love too; and Tita generally tried to understand why her mother was the way she was. But the sad thing was that Mama Elena didn’t seem to want what was best for her daughter. I’m watching Episode 2 of the HBO series now and can see how Mama Elena sees love as “a business” and how her “heart is dried out.” Why would she want the same sad life for her own daughter Tita?!?!

@ she’s unhappy so she doesn’t want anyone else to be. Her hatred for Tita is not something I understand. Even in the second episode when she tries to get a straight answer from Elena, Elena shuts her down. “ I don’t think it’s normal for a mother to treat her child the way you treat me” a statement that I believe merits an explanation but Elena just shuts her down “ shut your mouth, Tita!”.

Hard to believe the original film is an “old movie” but sometimes when I hear even the Year 2000 I’m like, “oh that was only a few years ago,” haha.
