You can't really rawdog Mystery Van when they're that close, since they can just charge an attack to knock it off stage as soon as it comes out. Either gotta cover it somehow, use it when they're in the air, or use it when you're across the stage from them as a pressure tool. It's best as a pressure tool IMO because if you use it while they're at 50-70 damage they HAVE to respect it since if they get caught the duration is so long that they're almost guaranteed to get to get carried to the blast zone. I kinda use it as a way to cover space when people are trying to land or get back to center stage. It's so big that between the van, velma projectiles, and variable sized melee hitboxes (like holding downtilt or holding neutral attack) they get forced into having to blow all of their meter on dodges trying to evade, which also gives you free reign to fearlessly go for reads, OR trying their luck at staying up in the air to bait the van to fall off the stage. In the latter scenario where they're going off stage to get the van to fall off, best option obviously is to chase them up there and force them to try and land by going back in the direction of the van or to try and fight you off at a significant disadvantage since they have less aerial options by default and are closer to the blast zone at the moment of engagement. I think mystery van is a really sick and deadly skill that gets criminally underrated especially in 1s. No doubt it's better by default in 2v2 since you have more people to cover the van and it's more impactful when it gets a stock, but it's still very good in 1s for instantly creating insane pressure on the opponent and basically creating a "sudden death" scenario where the Velma has a ridiculous advantage
