I personally hope you are all well, safe and enjoying your summer holidays as we bring in the new year.
I thought I'd jump on here, as a prelude to the following song you're about to hear and give you a bit of backstory.
Prior to my journey up north for work last March, this song dawned at a time of losing direction in life. Not knowing what anything means anymore, to the point where I seeped into an unknown hole where I stayed idle and uncertain on who I was, what I was doing and where I was going. The only way I knew how to channel my emotions was through the acoustic guitar.
So then I played around with some beautiful, melodic sounding chords and pitched it to Vahid in mid-March, to which we recorded a rough demo days before I traveled north.
Fast forward to the month of August, Megan's brilliant mind compiled a selection of videos and images to fit the song as background imagery… she and I got in touch in November and she informed me of this. I thought, wow, that's a song I'd forgotten about. Then Benji, Chris, Megan and I had a hui to discuss the further progress on this waiata and the finished product is what you're going to hear right now.
Even more time has passed, we're now in January 2022! After nearly 10 or so months, here is the song Vahid and I co-wrote.
One thing I wish to let you know, is for this waiata to be played only via audio, and not done by someone live in a group setting. The reason I say this is because I want this song to talk to each individual in their own way, and letting something stir within you that means something to you. That's why you won't see any chords. Please keep that in mind, whānau

Sung chants, such prayers, such devotions are provided for private use so that anyone, any person can utilise these to communicate directly with God. The offerings being made using TeReoMaori are available to all persons willing to utilise these expressions and., who agree to abide with respect and dignity the practise there of. The English translation would also be available and will prove most helpful to any learning, student practioner. Regardfully, Benji.
