Lost Gundam Diorama in epoxy resin - Cinematic How to
This time we make an Gundam that has been abandoned after taking heavy damage, it looks to have been left for some time.
Story behind the diorama:
We flew from the United Kingdom to Japan and Josh purchased a few GUNPLA kits, One from the Yokohama gundam factory (Which is now shut) and one from the Gundam store found in odaiba.
This gunpla kit was from odaiba and was one of the first places we visted whilst in the Tokyo region.

    So, thats a thorough cleaning... The way I do it is quicker :) Once a print job is ready and removed from the bed, I spray it with 99% IPA and clean it with a clean paper towel... thats it! About once a quarter (3~4 months) I wash them with warm water and soap.

    Soap and water if you need to scrub the bed from residue using a brush. Then after it's dry, get some IPA on a paper towel and just wipe it thoroughly. This IPA spreading with plastic thingy is nonsense and too much work. Get a spraying bottle for your IPA as well, you can quickly cover whole bed and wipe it down with clean paper towel without pouring it into a cup first.

  • @morgenkaffe

    what are you doing??? Just clean the plate with a sponge and soapy water, then at the end after you dry it, use a microfiber cloth with some 99% alcohol :))))) Have been doing that for years and they still works fine

    • @djangodoescomputer

      You literally described the same thing they did? The cloth they dried it with was clearly microfiber. They just didnt use a cloth to wipe up their alcohol. Why do either of you use alcohol at all? Sterility has no effect on printing.

    • @morgenkaffe

      @@djangodoescomputer I meant when using Alcohol use a microfiber cloth, not just scrape it over the build plate, also regarding the cleaning of the plate, use a sponge, the plate will not be harmed in any way using a sponge. How are you going to get ASA or ABS of the build plate, but just sprinkling water on it?

    • @djangodoescomputer

      @@morgenkaffe Again, what video did you watch? She uses a sponge during the soapy cleaning part of the video, and she mentions it out loud, specifying to not use the scrubby side of the sponge (something I dont think really matters, I use the scrubby side on my teflon pans without worry, and that Zojirushi rice bowl.. Its not steel wool) As for using the alcohol with a cloth, I would do that before Id do what she did. letting it evaporate does literally nothing. but I also dont see any reason to use alcohol at all. I already cleaned it with soap. It does not need to be sterile. The only thing I can imagine is some types of oily residues might dissolve better in the alcohol? I have only ever printed in PLA+ and PLA. Do ASA and ABS leave residues that are better dissolved by alcohol than soap and water?

  • @NilsEckelt

    I wonder why using alcohol to solve any left over residue and not wipe it off. So when evaporating the alcohol, the residue would fall out again. What’s the trick there?

    • @TheForg3d

      We use the soapy water to remove residue and the alcohol to sterilise the surface. Wiping off the alcohol with a cloth works but can leave residue itself, we find it works great and hasn't failed us in the last couple of years of printing 🙂

    • @djangodoescomputer

      @@TheForg3d why would the surface need to be sterile? Bacteria dont eat filament or bed material. unless you are printing something for medical purposes there is no reason it needs to be sterile. It needs to be clean, and NilsEckelt is correct in saying any residues picked up by the alcohol wouid remain, including the corpses and associated slimes of any dead bacteria. But there arent any already, because you cleaned it, and Dawn soap kills most everything anyway. I would advise you to test without the alcohol step and see if you actually notice any difference at all, because in theory there is no way that is doing literally anything that could help. I'd love someone to explain if im wrong.

    • @seigeengine

      The soap would remove any microorganisms just fine, and the alcohol isn't going to keep it sterile anyways since it'll just be recolonized from exposure to ambient air alone. What it might do is evenly distribute whatever is left creating a more homogenous surface. That said, I question if it actually makes any difference.

  • @HuskyRides

    I see ur still using the older style black PEI plates.. i sugest switching them out for newer gen Gold ones. The adhesion is way better; and they only need a scrub of dish-soap and a wipe with 99 iso once in a while.. The idea of iso alcohol is you remove any grease/grime from the plate with a cloth/piece of paper; just putting on and letting it evaporate does not do much..

    • @TheForg3d

      We agree with some but not all sorry! ✌️ The gold plates are great yes but the older black plate is perfect for our usage case (mass produced car parts), we find that this process works perfectly on our small army of printers 💪

    • @HuskyRides

      @@TheForg3d Yeah i did notice the old style black plates have less adhesion.. but they are thinner and easier to bend to get the parts off.

    They look very nice. It should be noted that the micro textures transfered to the part are not durable. If you apply to any place where you grip the part or that slides or rests on another surface, the effect will be rubbed off in a fairly short period of time. Some are more durable than others. You can test by rubbing your thumb on the effect for 10-20 seconds to see which is the strongest.
