the book of sand, page 1 | a fragment | Alina Sokulska, the BEAUTIFUL FORMULA collective
"Study the page well. You will never see it again."
in Jorge Luis Borges' short story, The Book of Sand, we find a mysterious book, that, like the sand, neither has a beginning, nor an end. Pages literally multiply between the pages, and once you open the book you never encounter the same content in it. "The number of pages in this book is exactly infinite. No page is the first; none the last. I don’t know why they’re numbered in this arbitrary way. Perhaps it’s to demonstrate that an infinite series includes any number.”
the book of sand has been conceived as a series of multidisciplinary performative pieces, that set body/movement as a central medium in a spontaneous composition dialogue with visual art, painting, performance and music.
offering an artistic reading of the Borgesian concept of the infinite knowledge, the book of sand deals with the topics of memory & oblivion, expansion & erasure, approaching the issue of the identity transformation under the rhythmic layering of time.
led by a choreographer Alina Sokulska, the episodes (pages) of the book of sand embrace short and long duration solo, duo and group pieces formats in a cooperation with artists who work with spontaneous composition within their media (painting, drawing, music, performance).
“If space is infinite, we are in no particular point in space. If time is infinite, we are in no particular point in time.”

art must stand with the oppressed, not serve those who oppress them. thank you, for visualizing the agony of those, who, through no fault of their own, find themselves victims in war zones, created by the oppressors.

Can't catch the "feel" of BeBop dance. The most of the dance is performed separated, I'd like state a style to dance on Dizzy or Thelonious (not Lindy classic steps) but I don't know how. Here the music obviously doesn't match so most of the figures are cut onto the hit itself with riffs and breaks danced on.
