    Absolutely the best cast off method I've tried. Not to tight, not too stretchy, it's just right. Thank you so much for sharing!

    I had to use a needle 2 sizes bigger to avoid it being too tight and it's still not quite as stretchy as the ribbing but it looks and works good. Thank you.

    Thank you for this! I prefer toe-up socks (because I hate joining to work in the round) and I'm always on the lookout for the best stretchy bindoff! Also I am kind of in love with the pink/purple socks and the Christmas socks. Do you have these projects up on Ravelry? I'd love to see the stitch pattern (for the pink/purple) and the yarns/colors you used!

    And here I thought I discovered it! I hate the flare too but realized I could add stretchiness with the YOs, but just do half as many. Thanks for officially noting this for others.

    Thank you for this awesome bind off! I'm new to knitting and am making my first pair of socks. Both bucket list items.. your bond off is both easy and beautiful!! Just because I'm new to knitting doesn't mean I want my work to look like it! This binding doesn't flare and is perfectly stretchy. Thanks again!!

    You work the yarn over in different directions, according to knit&purl stitches. Is that right? Is there a rule? Would be great to know…🙏🏼

    • @sheenaf7886
      @sheenaf7886 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know if yarn overs have a direction really… Depending on if your yarn is already in the front or back might change how you make it, but in the end it gets bound off the same so not sure it matters.

    • @adrianoadu1380
      @adrianoadu1380 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sheenaf7886 of course, clockwise or anti-clockwise. That makes a difference.

    • @shellyb7726
      @shellyb7726 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always counterclockwise (anti-clockwise). Her answer is right, of course. Making the yarn over looks different, depending where your yarn end is as you do it -- but the action will always be in the same direction (...no matter which hand holds the working yarn).

      They are metal with a dull paint finish. They’re the really old circular kind, I got them second hand from a charity shop about 10 years ago.

    It really helps if you properly pay attention when learning this or if it's been awhile. I keep looking down to see I've been knitting 2x2 rib instead of casting off and having to undo several stitches. I also recommend feeling the cast off as you work for any knots which happens every time I cast off the 2 stitches together instead of passing over the yo first then the prior stitch.

    Hi Sheena, love the demo. I do 1 X1 rib. I noted that you replied to "dopesheepify" that for 1x1 you would do it between each set. So I want to clarify. Does that mean: K1, YO, Cast off; P1, YO, Cast off; K1, YO, Cast off, and so on. Is that correct?

    • @sheenaf7886
      @sheenaf7886 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Delia Bottoms hey! It means I would do a yarn over after each purl stitch, essentially every two stitches adding in the YO for the extra stretch.

    • @Deliapiano
      @Deliapiano 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sheenaf7886 Okay, so that would be: K1, P1, YO, K1, Cast off both stitches, then P1 , YO, K1, Cast off both stitches?

  • @annemariebenoit4263
    @annemariebenoit4263 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    For future reference: demonstration starts at 2 minute mark. When working with a yarn that has a tendency to catch there are a couple things you can do to ensure this bind-off method looks tidy. When you have 3 stitches on the needle: cast-off middle stitch and then right stitch singly, not as a pair-- this avoids a knotty appearance. Also when you have 3 stitches on the needle: pull stitches tight once needle is inserted before casting off to avoid holes near the edge of your work. This cast-off is easy to get wrong if you don't do these things, but easy to get right if you do 👍 Happy knitting!!!

  • @annemariebenoit4263
    @annemariebenoit4263 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    A little finicky, but worth it. Thanks. Much better than the simple pattern cast-off I tried and looks better than the other stretchy bind-off I saw a video on... although with the texture of the wool I used it looked a bit knottier than I would have liked. Still, I am making ankle warmers for me so who cares?

  • @dopesheepify
    @dopesheepify 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Where do you put the YOs in 1x1 rib? Just pick one of the switches between knit and purl? And for half twisted rib (k is tbl) do you do the bind off knits tbl or as normal knits?

    • @sheenaf7886
      @sheenaf7886 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      dopesheepify for 1x1 I would do it between each set. Not sure for tbl, I’ve never bound off with that stitch but I think I would ignore it and just do it as a normal K.

    Thank you so much for this video. Recently finished a cowl that has a k2 p2 border and when I did the bind off it flared and is so unattractive. Am going to do over and use this bind off.
