John Bell Young I have to agree, this interpretation captures the spiritual essence and solitary conversation with GOD as I think Liszt was trying convey. I personally find this harder to perform at a slower tempo than the faster tempos I hear frequently performed on TH-cam. My only complaint is that the acoustics and recording quality can be better, no fault of the pianist. I also like the tempo and recording quality of Julien Libeer's performance on TH-cam. Every time I hear this performed it never fails to amaze, I never get tired of playing nor hearing it.

Curt, I met this young man when he was 15 years old. He was a competitor in a competition in Sweden that I was adjudicating. The jury was overwhelmed with his unbelievably mature perofrmance of the Liszt Sonata, which frankly blew us away. He won by unanimous decision, which was unusual all by itself in an international competition of that sort.
