New Zealand
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 ต.ค. 2023
We're Justine and Darryl, 50-somethings travel vloggers who are passionate advocates for Social Tourism. We focus on ethical travel, that combines fun with learning, while making a positive impact on the local community. We tackle over-tourism by off-season travel to unique places and offer socially-conscious critiques. We seek to understand the culture, history and social issues of the places we visit, and to share the lesser known stories with you. Each video is split into two parts: an exploration of the site, event, or activity (with a bit of education on the history or local culture) followed by our BB STARS review which covers Social Good, economic benefit (Trea$ury), Accessibility, Relationships (between travellers and locals) and Sustainability. Subscribe and hit the notification bell to join us every Sunday for a new adventure filled with honest insights, local interviews, and fascinating historical and cultural tidbits. Happy travels, everyone!

Holy Toledo!
That would have made a good thumbnail. Thanks for the thought!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍Toledo is so amazing city!! Thanks friends for sharing this videos!!
We are glad you think so @Juanfernandez-sm8jl. Thanks for appreciating our video, we appreciate it!
Great thumbnail, love the content and that Discovery Britain app seems worth looking into.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked the thumbnail and found the content helpful. The Discovery Britain app really is a gem for exploring!
It's amazing to see someone so passionate and opinionated at the same time. I thought this guide shared a great deal of passion. 😊
Passionate and opinionated? Sounds like the perfect recipe for a TH-cam channel! Who needs a script when you have feelings, right?
I went to school when I was a kid in Kassel. During WWII, the British took exception to bombing the living hell out of Kassel because of the treatment on "downed" British airmen. The locals, hung and butchered their captives. Also, Kassel was a mfg. place where many armaments were manufactured. I went to school with a lot of British and American kiddos.
That’s wild @johnhorne2012! Sounds like you’ve got some crazy stories from back in the day. School in Kassel must have been a whole different experience! We hear Kassel the happiest place in Hessen now. We hope you've got some fonder moments of Kassel too as we loved our time there.
Great video team! I enjoyed your tour 💕
Thank you so much for the support 😍. Hope you get to check these places out for yourself one day soon.
Toledo was the capital of Spain in the Visigoth Kingdom, and after the reconquest and expulsion of the Muslims, it remained the capital until 1561, when King Philip II moved the court permanently to Madrid. Toledo is also famous for its steel. In the 16th and 17th centuries, at the height of the Spanish Empire, in Europe, Spanish soldiers, organized in the so-called Tercios de Infanteria, were feared for their discipline in combat, and their skill with firearms. and in the body combat, due to his skill in fencing, with steel swords from Toledo, which easily broke the Dutch, English or French swords, of much lower quality.04:25,That is the old Spanish flag, called the Cross of Burgundy. It was replaced in 1753 by the current flag, which is red and yellow. The Cross of Burgundy today is the military insignia of the Spanish Army.
Thank you for sharing such detailed information! It's always enriching to have knowledgeable viewers like you who contribute to the discussion.
Does anyone else notice this guy has the sweats on? Maybe he managed to get his vaccinations done! 🥵🙄
Haha, maybe he was just practicing his dance moves and got a little too into it!
It's incredible to think the poor had to live under the castle. 😢
Yes. And to think it was used to imprison many others. The castle has many stories to tell.
It really does have beautiful scenery. And lovely sculptures ❤
Yes we Kiwis are proud of our scenery. So nice of you to comment. We appreciate it. 🙏
I don't get it. What a super video and yet I am the only one commenting. Such a great effort made here. Thanks for sharing 😊.
It seems like you’ve uncovered the hidden treasure of comments! I guess the rest of the world hasn’t realized how awesome this video is yet!
It's great to have over 1000 viewing eyes, well I guess 2000 if everyone uses their two eyes, yet no-one seems to want to use their mouth to voice their opinion of this pure piece of creativity. Leaves it to me!!! 😊
I really appreciate you taking the time to voice your opinion! Your support means a lot to us and helps keep the creative juices flowing!
Wow. This was a great destination and I didn't realise that Murcia has so much rich history. I'm surprised no one has commented on this video.🙄
Maybe everyone was too busy planning their own trip to Murcia to leave a comment!
I'm surprised that fewer people didn't know of these beautiful spots offering so much more than just the beaches. I hope we have some comments come soon. Feedback is always helpful. 😎
Right? I mean, who needs just sand and sun when you can have adventure and stunning views? Beaches, you’ve been put on notice!
Actually going to Florence, Bologna (staying Modena), and Milan on Dec 1st. Should be a great trip!
Fantastic 😍 Hopefully our videos on Bologna and Florence have given you an idea what to expect :) Have a great time! Let us know how it goes.
❤❤❤
Thanks for the appreciation @DakotaFord592
Wonderful share, thank you for sharing your Atalaya Castle discoveries with us, great job 👍
Thanks for commenting @mywanderways we really appreciate it. We felt fortune was on our side to experience it how we did. Glad you liked it. Have you been?
Spain is the European country with the most historical variety. Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Visigoths, Muslims, Jews and Christians have passed through. There are Roman, Visigothic and Arab constructions, Renaissance, neoclassical, modernist, etc. It is also the country in Europe with the most climatic diversity, from deserts, snowy mountains, Mediterranean areas, high mountains, forests, greens meadows, steppes, rivers, lakes, beaches, reservoirs, even volcanoes. It is also the second most mountainous country in Europe, after Switzerland, and the second with the most forests, after Sweden. There is more natural and cultural variety than is usually thought, beyond sun and beach.
Wow. This explains why we love discovering more of Spain and learning more of it's wonderful culture. Thank you so much @saloznip for sharing this obvious passion for the country too.
As a Bristolian I am really sick of these Middle Class Apologists painting our City as Troubled. The only People going on about this is Middle Class outsiders or Marxists intent on dismantling Britain. No one is making videos of the Ethnic Cleansing of Native Brits and the Islamisation of our Cities. First time in my 60 yrs i want to get out and leave this City to the loony party who want no borders no Country. The Slave trade spread Blacks all over the Caribbean where violence and crime is an every day life particularly in Jamaica and Trinidad . From the US to the UK the imported pimping , violence, drugs and Yardie gang murders have enslaved us all. They shout the loudest for their rights while other demographs just live their lives quietly . Now they want Compensation yet forget to ask their African enslavers . Bristol has been pushed by Woke Marxist Propaganda and the TH-camrs have jumped on the bandwagon . Sad to see my City go into decline while the Elites put the third World into once lovely places to live like Lawrence Hill. Arab Countries take on workers from third world and when the work is finished they must leave. As for third world goods like tee shirts etc yes stop it and see them complain because they can’t feed their kids. We trade with islands like Jamaica but can get the goods cheaper elsewhere but no one talks about that. So in a nut shell we’re not troubled at all and in fact we don’t want enforced integration
Brilliant!
Thank you @leoh4599 for your enthusiastic response to our video. We really appreciate your support and hope you have shared it with others you might think will also enjoy it as much as you did!
There is an “unedited” Dracula novel called “ Powers of Darkess” from what I know is that Bram stoker made Dracula more passionate and more spookier what he originally intended. Dracula went through a ton of editing and rewriting until it got published. Too bad 1897 publishers back then was so repressed! Dracula does not even have a prologue!. And what do they mean by “Dracula’s Grave?” Do people really believe the count’s body was taken back to England after the book transpired! Dracula is just a story, it is not real life! Great tour! Really loved it!
Thank you @priestessmikokikyo77 for your input. You seem a fan of his work. Have you taken the tour physically? Or just visually? Amazingly yes, it seems there are believers of this fictitious character, whom believe they can visit the grave at St.Mary's Church at the top of the 199 steps, hence the notices specifically trying to reduce the amount of questioning regards this ungodly character.
Awesome! Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the opportunity to share our thoughts on our much loved "Last of Summer Wine" country. 🥰
It was a very nice time spent in Holmfirth. Justine and I were blown away by what it had to offer. Thank you for contributing your opinions and sharing your passion for the TV show.

Don't give up your day job... 👎
Inclusiveness is a sham. White by itself is fine.
That's an interesting view you have there @Crystalblue. Please elaborate, I thought we were all humans, or are you not an inclusive member of this planet? I happen to disagree with you and it shows we still have some educating to do.
Hahahah! Losing a vote 2:1 is not 'polarisation'. It's a landslide defeat. These people are very silly.
Interesting view. Taken onboard. Once you are defeated, do you think that means it's the right time to give up. We don't think so!
@BreakawayBravehearts I know you won't. The only thing left for you is to keep lying and hope you can snag at least a few gullible and credulous people. My suggestion is that you avoid numbers and keep it vague. It's too easy to get tripped up on numbers.
Indigenous working class British people were slaves back then. Are the Africans apologising and erasing those chiefs who sold their people to the slave merchants?
A lot seems to have progressed positivity since then. Moving forward. Eh!
Why bother with this nutter? He's irrelevant. Bristol has way bigger problems than statues...a lack of a big concert venue or hotel capacity for example. Weird how progressives are so stuck in the past.
Of course Bristol was a slave trading port way back transporting English slaves to Ireland and then to Africa.
Hi @rickjensen2717, yes this is so, not something I learned in my education though.
Colston was not a slave trader and his philanthropy was not funded by the slave trade and George Floyd was not murdered, stop telling lies.
Ahh @keithwilliams1243, we see what you did there. Truth is how you perceive it and the research you make to unhide it.
Oh, sweet Jesus. Entitled activists.
Dreadful and dangerous. All very retrograde and very sad.
@paulwally9007 did you give an opinion or make a judgement on someone giving their opinion? I guess we are both entitled ... to an opinion.
@jimdavis8391 Thanks for seeing worth to make a comment.
Is there going to be a complementary feature concerning offshore Lundy Islands role in the longer lasting Barbary slave trade?
A little Island with a lawless past @stephenchappell7512. If we get there, who knows. There is still lots to learn, watch this space.
Oh for God's we do not need New Zealanders lecturing us on our history. They should look to their own history.
Has it ever occurred to you that the descendants of enslaved people are actually better off today than if slavery hadn't happened? The sale of black people by other black people has resulted in the unprecedented mass movement of those people around the globe. Notably they moved to the west and 'new world' which as we know was the land of opportunity. Now I don't condone slavery and know that those people suffered. But on being freed, they found themselves in civilised western nations like the US and Britain where there were opportunities aplenty for them. The ones that took advantage of those opportunities and worked hard to educate and improve themselves became successful. Out of hardship came hope. Can you say with any certainty that today we would have black people in a multitude of professions black politicians and even a black American President?
Thank you @lily-the-pink972 for your opinion on the matter. It is always interesting to hear the views of others. I do wonder if your black friends would share the same view as yours and I can't help but wonder how well our black brothers and sisters would be today amongst our society if they were in fact embraced and recognised as equals to white man. Don't you?
@@BreakawayBravehearts The truth is that we can't possibly say as 'what ifs' aren't facts. We can't say how the world would look if certain events hadn't happened.
@Lily_The_Pink972 You are quite delusional. Perhaps it's because you have no idea, care, or have any emotional empathy of what the effects of slavery have done to black people. The cruelty of the gruelling work, for no or little pay post slavery, and of course the sexual assaults on the women . And not to mention the splitting up of families as their brethren were sold off on a whim for profit for their white slavers. Oh yes ,they never had it so good ( sarcasm). And when you say you don't condone slavery, you are somewhat disingenuous here as you appear to look back on those times with some sort of sense of pride and fondness in white accomplishment and achievement. Let me inform you of the remnants of those wonderful days. If you are not aware and allow me to bring it to your attention, prejudice and racism still exist. You only have to look at the deep South in America, all be it the racism being stoked up by certain characters such as Donald Trump, the racism is alive and kicking. And by the way, I'm part black, if you are wondering 🤔.
@annaharvey8729 Thank you for entering the conversation. We really appreciate everyone's views because without a full understanding of such events we will never truly understand and show the empathy deserved by all humans. I think on research, this is what really motivated him to find out more. If you haven't done the tour, met him, or experienced Bristol .. we highly recommend doing so.
Well said Blacks have a huge chip on their shoulders. None want to go back to their Ancestrial homeland though. Everything is geared for them including TV Media and even Advertising propaganda. These opportunities would not be possible for most in Africa. Britains decline started in the Windrush Years and now is probably irreversible . The Globalists want a one Nation State in Europe and will push it against the wishes of the Public. A Orwellian nightmare
anyone would think a thousand modern day slaves don't arrive on our shores every day to be sold on to Corporations to do their will but nobody wants to talk about that inconvenient truth!!
@Daisy-tl2lh you are right to question this. We are not ignoring this and indeed the subject we have touched on is only the tip of the iceberg. We feel you.
Why in your title do you call it a troubling past, I am Bristolian and I am not in the least bit troubled.
👏👏👏👏
@keithwilliams1243 it would have been wonderful to hear your comfortable side of the story. Perhaps we could interview you or you could share your side. It's always good to get two sides of the story. Thanks for your opinion.
@@Daisy-tl2lh sickening propaganda against Native Brits
Great video mate ❤
We are happy you enjoyed it. The brighter future video is up next. Thanks for your support 🙏
The New World ! Built on hearty, plucky. Protestants! With the help of indentured servants? Of whatever origin! Poor, ...etc. Etc
"White" Slavery!? Slavery is Slavery !
@wizzerdsuntzu Thank you for your participation. We have part two coming up which may see a brighter outcome, depending on how people view progress.
Just what we desperatley need. More white guilt, more self loathing and more self hate. Sick of it all.
Woah there! You missed out the 1625 raid on Bristol by Ottoman pirates who enslaved 60 Englishmen to sell into servitude in North Africa. Did your "historian" chap miss that out of his story?
Cool, only five thousandths of a percent of the number of Africans British slavers shipped to the Caribbean.
Thank you @mindyerownbusiness-p7t for highlighting this. Rob had mentioned that he had excess amounts of information and research, but to keep on time he had to miss out a few vital points. We'd like to think he knew about this, however, thank you for bringing it to light. Why not try his tour.
It’s not just one raid , for quite a long time prior to any uk involvement in the slave trade Africans were raiding the uk and Europe for slaves . Also did he mention what happened to the African slaves not bought and shipped to the americas , they were eaten or ritually sacrificed by torture . So people alive many of them involved in the slave trade felt these people were better off in Virginia . Think that didn’t happen watch cannibal warlords of Liberia on TH-cam or goggle cannibalism Sierra Leone civil war or muti murder it’s still happening
What is the issue ? Africans sold other Africans, and some Europeans bought them. I'm pretty sick of hearing about it. When are we going to talk about the actual slave traders themselves ?
However, whether it was white slavers or black slavers, does that make it more acceptable? Answer no, it doesn't! Also, I'm sick of this old trope and tired out argument, trying to justify and defend the indefensible because it upsets your sensibilities somewhat. Fact! If we are ever going to learn and move on from racism and greed and the undeserved wealth that was brought about by slavery. Then, we have to face up to the truth of the malevolent historical facts of this evil trade. To sum up, we must learn from history!
@zapre2284 Thank you for your contribution. We had hoped that people would see the better in people from what Rob had to show. We feel it's a question of morality and empathy. We hope you understand.
Can't be any worse than it is now.
That's an interesting view @grahamthacker6498. It seems humanity never learns.. or might it? Check out the next part which is coming out "protest to progression". Perhaps there is something in it to further share your opinion.
More reviews for travellers need to be like this.
Thank you! We really appreciate that. We'll keep building our community hoping to find like minded travellers who care about the ethics of their travel.
Thanks for the guide, as I'm tossing up that route from Frankfurt to Berlin. Interesting the real source for the Grimm tales. There seem to be a disproportionate amount of evil stepmothers in those tales so perhaps the women were saying something about society at the time.
@Peleski Thanks for taking the time to watch the guide. We enjoyed finding out the stories. Your theory could have some truth in it. That's the beauty of literature, it's open to your interpretation. We are happy and grateful for your comments. The trail is worth doing to find out for yourself. Have fun choosing.
Great Video. How are you guys doing? Met you in Maidstone when you were filming in the shopping centre. My channel is 1 Whiz, by the way. Did you think that the camera was worth the investment?
1 Whiz we never got your name (we think). Thanks for commenting. We thought it best to explain what we are getting behind when we say Social Tourism. We are having a ball, I hope you can see that. Remember we were on the search for the "Shaun the Sheeps" when we bumped in to you.. We are now down in Cornwall. With many more things to share... So watch this space. The DJI Osmo Pocket three has been the biz... well worth it!
@@BreakawayBravehearts Excellent - keep up the good work. I know how slow it can be sometimes!
I'm coming with a group of educators to Pistoia in April. I can't wait. Loved this video.
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it, and I know you will also love your time in Pistoia!
Will be coming here in the next couple of weeks, yeah some of the neon stuff/shoulder pads were cringe not all of them. And on TV + pics in mags + when I went shopping people still wearing them! I know it is here till Sat 7th of Sep 😎 + as you said not all but some of them should be left in the past! But also in the 80's, you just has your regulars that would wear logo t-shirts, black/blue jeans + black/white Nike trainers as you know! Along with designer brands like: Moss Bros, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Lacoste, etc as you know + yeah a museum that size can't really tell the whole history from 1980-89! Do the both of you also like theme/waterparks??
Yes, we love waterparks, and theme parks - but only when they are done well. We are so much more careful about where we go now, because we have seen some negative impacts of over tourism and commercialisation. It would be great to do a review on a water/theme park to see how well it scores in terms of having benefit for the community and for the environment. Is there a good one you recommend in the area?
@@BreakawayBravehearts Great to hear you love Waterparks + Theme Parks 🤘🏻 What sort of negative impacts have you seen from over tourism/commercialislation?? I mean obviously the Disney Parks are full of that-but I don't mind them personally. In what Area you on about England, and ake it this is Justine asking this 😀 I have also followed your fb page. So could send you a list of them around UK and in the rest of Europe that you should def visit!
Love this part of Kent, + loved this trail when I did it! I'm also in Kent,-right between Dartford/Bexley 😀 Yea saw that 80's exhibition shown on TV + Social Media + when I last went there but not been yet! When did you last go to Mote Park when you were in Maidstone????
Hi, thanks for subscribing! Sadly we only had a short time in Kent and didn't get to go to Mote Park this time. Hoping to come back soon. While we were in Kent we also went to Canterbury and Sandwich - Is there anywhere else in Kent you suggest we should see?
@@BreakawayBravehearts No probs for subscribing 👍🏻 Am I talking with Darryl/Justine in this comment-who normally responds to the comments?? lol Oh I see, yeah def go to Mote Park next time! Ah Canterbury/Sandwich, I really like them parts of Kent 😀 I know/can obviously tell Justine is a Kiwi-I remember a friend of mine many years ago + he worked in a museum and thought she was Australian she wasn't impressed 😅 If this is you Justine, let me know if not if this is Darryl-where in England where you born/raised sounds from down south! I read on your website-2024 promises a whole new adventure. We're selling our house so we can buy our first ever a campervan! So after them 2 years then what will you do?? Sure you been to other parts of Kent before you met Justine if this is you I'm talking to-but will send you a list 🤘🏻
@mikekaraoke Sometimes you get a Justine response, other times a Darryl response. I (Darryl) am pleased to hear that you enjoy where you live. I spent a good part of my life in Kent (born Berkshire) and wanted to share this beautiful county with my better half. Yep, that's right. Justine hadn't really seen much of England, so we are going around the parts of Britain that even I haven't been to. Thanks for your input. If there is anywhere you think worth the visit that will benefit others then give us a few suggestions. we are in Cornwall for now though.
in the seventies it had a real Eygptian mummy....is it still there? Jh
We didn't see that! What a shame, would have loved to have seen it.
@@BreakawayBravehearts it had bones of its fingers poking out
We'll probably head back there at some stage. We'll keep you posted.
