Definitely one of the fastest to read “long books”

Pretty good book. I love mouthing the words as I read at a frenetic breathless pace. A little conflicted about it though. The style is more suited to darker or stranger books, like his previous works or Bernhard and Beckett. This has an extremely cartoony quality, albeit very entertaining.

This book was/is AWESOME. Quite RAUNCHY at times, but still... it's a page-turner. I spent a lot of time in Manhattan in the '90s, I'm kicking myself for never going to see the Lunachicks.

My god I wish this play would get more attention

Everything is spiritual, but here's the thing: (you must admit that there is a "thing" otherwise there's no point of books or talk or anything of the sort because there is in fact no problem) we are bipolar spirit beings. We are drawn both to light and to darkness. Even in pre-Christian times this problem was noted. The Easterners developed their cyclical model of reality, yin and yang, coeternal distinct but paradoxically intertwined principles, each containing the other in some way. Zoroastrianism polarized the principles, a much more western model. Judaism personalized the problem into God and the devil, and Christianity followed. Islam placed the devil outside the sheepfold, conveniently enough, but could not deal with the darkness within the heart of a man. The solution was to expand the sheepfold, keep watch over the gates, and do away with the black sheep. The New Age declares the darkness to be an illusion, but this in itself is problematic--from where comes illusions? Only Christianity claims to have defeated the darkness. It's quite simple. We all know how to do it. Just turn on the light.

Great interview. Here's one of America's greatest living authors, a true visionary with a a hilarious sense of humor, true-to-life characters and an amazing touch for dialogue and dialect and he only gets 5 likes and 59 views! Why?: because nobody wants truth or appreciates brilliant eccentricity, they just want hypocritical puritanical role models, censorship and white-washing in a dumb-downed G-rated world.
