    8:10 I find it really interesting that nightshade is rare in TES universe and yet irl it’s relatively common (not as common as things like dandelions, but still)

    • @hannah_the_hermit
      @hannah_the_hermit 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for pointing that out! It’s definitely an interesting contrast. In TES universe, nightshade’s rarity adds to its mysticism, while in real life it’s more of a fascinating yet dangerous plant that you can stumble upon in nature. TES universe often takes liberties with how common or rare certain ingredients are to enhance their atmosphere or significance (pumpkins growing in Cyrodiil but not in southern Skyrim, the lack of harvestable garlic in Skyrim, etc). It makes you wonder WHY Bethesda wanted nightshade to be more rare in the game’s world and lore.

    Anise’s shack is the last remnant of the old city at the foot of Bleak Falls Barrow. I presume she’s one of the last remnants of the old animist religions that locked up the dragon priests to close out the dragon war. Bleak Falls contains the Dragon Stone, the final secret of the dragon cult smuggled out of Forelhost by the dragon cult. It’s unlocked with the golden claw, which begins the dragon and dragon priest(mask) quest lines. The Golden mask is the end of the Dragon Priests. Did Lucan steal the golden claw from her or did he find it upslope in the rubble from collapsed chambers? In other temples, the claws are on pedestals. A destroyed room just after the entrance hall would be in a ritually/architecturally similar location to the pedestals where other claws are kept in their temples. Like many peeps on a third/fourth/fifth playthrough, I’ve thought about this too much, but it’s helping drive my latest char’s decision making. Anise is her granny.

    • @hannah_the_hermit
      @hannah_the_hermit 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is an intriguing theory about Anise’s cabin! It makes a lot of sense, especially when you think about the proximity to such significant Dragon Cultist artifacts. The idea that Anise might be a descendant of the old animist traditions that opposed the dragon priests does fit her secretive behavior and practices. As for the golden claw, it’s an interesting question whether Lucan ‘found’ it or took it from Anise, especially since it seems out of place compared to the other claw locations. Given the state of the entrance hall and your observation of the other claws being kept in more deliberate locations, it does feel plausible that Lucan might have discovered it amidst the rubble-perhaps a remnant lost during the collapse of the old city, as you suggest. This would make the golden claw’s path from temple to Lucan’s shop even more drastic, and explain his extreme desire to get it back. I also really like how you’re using this for roleplaying motivation-having Anise as your character’s grandmother adds an awesome personal layer to the story! It almost feels like your character’s quest is part of a larger, multi-generational struggle against the legacy of the Dragon Cult, especially with Anise potentially being a tie to the last flickers of resistance. Keep delving into that lore!

      @@hannah_the_hermit This play thru started off “hunting and fishing in these parts for years,” using “live another life” and other mods mrs j stuffed into an Xbox. I’m curious how far I can go exploring the lore without turning on the dragons, on the premis that keeping the dragons and priests buried is the job she inherited. She’s currently fighting bandits with her sellsword uncle, because all the NPCs that matter know eachother and half the nords are a nord PC’s unmarriagable relatives. The Dragon Wars are a big narrative void in the lore, filled with hand-waving, innuendo and plot holes. I’ve been looking for people who know the lore, but the “5 w’s and and h” questions about the dragon claws/doors seem to be unanswered. The best we can do is infer from the “archeological record” of what the Dragonborn discovered. Honestly, I hope a more knowledgeable person sees my questions about the claws and totally runs it. A novel, a mod, more lore… whateve’, I’m good.

    I never found the cellar. Huh. Thank you, you've revealed another little secret of Skyrim to me! Anise was likely skilled enough to build an alchemist's table and an enchanter's table. I doubt she's lived in that cabin her entire life... rather she most likely moved to the cabin within the past couple of years. The presence of the letter in her cellar also hints *she had not yet sent Helgi the letter* and thus you interrupted a plot of hers... and given the proximity to Hilde, she was likely interested in her. (Also note that Hilde is the one who notices Alduin flying away when no one else does.) While it is possible that Helgi was from Helgren, there is a coven to the north of Helgren which likely would be scouting out potential new recruits (and may have already gotten several, given you run into several witches there). And for all we know, Helgi might even have been with one of the bandit gangs, though there is absolutely no evidence for that. For the most part I doubt Anise is based far from her intended recruit. (Also, you are most likely correct about her dark intentions given how she reacts and the letter you can find.) Anyway, thank you for your video! :)

    • @hannah_the_hermit
      @hannah_the_hermit 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You make a very good point here! Especially given the fact that Hilde is the one that’s adamant on seeing a dragon, while seemingly no one else noticed it. It’s intriguing to think of Helgen not just as the start of the Dragonborn’s journey, but also as having potential ties to deeper, quieter events like Anise’s scheming. The proximity of the coven is another great point-it makes the idea of recruiting someone from that area much more plausible. I’ve had bandits spawn in the area around her before but I’ve not seen them attack her. Ironically when I was recording, M’iaq spawned in the same location as the bandits so they chased him. I know there’s a spawner point south of her cabin closer to the base of Bleak Falls Barrow when random events can trigger, I’m just not sure how those events interact with her. It’s amazing how much there is to explore even in seemingly small, isolated places in Skyrim. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching the video!

    Since Moira may send thugs to attack the Dragonborn if Anise is killed, we can assume that Moira IS the sister Anise mentions in the letter. But what if there’s a bit of sisterly rivalry between them? Moira is a Hagraven, and Hagravens are held in high esteem by witches, usually being leaders of their covens. What if Anise is jealous of her sister’s power, and wants to become a Hagraven too? We learn in the “Repentance” quest, in Darklight Tower, that becoming a Hagraven involves performing a sacrifice, or possibly many sacrifices. What if Anise was luring Helgi out there, hyping up her potential just to get her to leave that “boy of hers,” but not to be Anise’s apprentice, but to be the sacrifice for Anise’s final transformation? So she could finally be as powerful as her sister. Or maybe Helgi really did have great magical potential, and Anise specifically wanted her as the sacrifice because maybe she believed that would make her a more powerful Hagraven. But Helgi died in Helgen before Anise could send the letter, and now she must find a new sacrifice. Like, say… a wandering Dragonborn? It’s a bit of an out-there theory, and I don’t really think that it’s the case with Anise, but food for thought lol

    • @hannah_the_hermit
      @hannah_the_hermit 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s an intriguing theory! The dynamic between Anise and Moira could definitely hint at some sort of sisterly rivalry or jealousy, especially since Moira’s position as a Hagraven would elevate her status amongst witches. Considering the “Repentance” quest, you’re right that becoming a Hagraven requires a sacrifice, and it’s entirely possible Anise wanted to perform such a ritual. Witches and Hagravens aren’t shy about using others for their own gain, and Helgi’s magical potential could have made her a prime target. The Dragonborn being a backup sacrifice makes it even more interesting, especially if Anise saw them as a last resort after Helgi’s death (however it occurred). The fact that Moira sends thugs after the Dragonborn for killing Anise adds another layer to the theory-it suggests that Moira might know something about her sister’s ambitions or plans and wanted to guarantee her success. While it is a bit out there, as you mentioned, the depth of TES lore allows for plenty of these speculative connections! I can definitely see this being the case though

    Tell this story but leave out all the descriptors like "dark" and "sinister." What you're left with is the story of someone trespassing in an old lady's home and then killing her when they are caught sneaking around.

    • @hannah_the_hermit
      @hannah_the_hermit 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ll admit I did take a bit of an angled approach, but she doesn’t need to get hostile and immediately result to attacking us on sight if we enter her cellar! There’s no way to talk her down or persuade her out of turning you in (assuming patrols make it out so far). But absolutely, at the end of the day we are trespassing, but who all did we save by catching her before she forms her coven.. always something to ponder!

    I feel like a lot of people forget how fallout shelter was when it came out. But there was still a little bit if time when the game was new that you couldnt do so much. Elder scrolls castles is still that same fun feel, albeit lacking in content and i hope it gets expanded upon. In shelter i remember always expanding and not having enough people to make the space feel lived in, but in castles you can have so many people, but you cant build multiple of the rooms until what im assuming to be late game. Im level 55 and cant make repeat rooms and am getting to 5he point of having lots oj jobless people. To make it work lore wise i have nobles jobless and commoners doing all the work, very castle like. But i would like to see more in the way of building and customizing the castle and would also realy like shelters wasteland and quest styling. I love the risk of sending your biggest boy out om days long adventures and risk them dying if you forget to check in on them over time. And with the way time progresses in game this sounds more fun but doesn't happen yet. All in all a very fun game and i hope it gets more over time

    I've played it for about an hour. I have criticisms about Fallout: Shelter. For Elder Scrolls: Castles, I wish you could send people out in the world to fight and retrieve weapons, armor, food, wealth, etc., like you could in Fallout: Shelter.

      I’ve also played both and understand the desire to send subjects out on quests. While there isn’t quite that (yet), there are quests you can do to get items, armor and gold. They’re just not the “set it and forget it” type.

    I got to lvl 77 and 10 years into my reign. Spent 7 dollars or so. It started great but becomes increasingly tedious. Got old having to keep people happy. Everything becomes very much just more of the same without anything changing in the game. The way they monetize is awful too. Half the huge hard earned rewards for leveling up are locked behind a pay wall. This reviewer didn't play it nearly enough and it sounded like a spokesperson for Bethesda.

    Its a new game. Not pay to win so far (that ive noticed) and fun enough to pop in, do a few things, then move on. Im definitely not offended at the game personally.

    I wish it told you what the decision you make is going to do. There's some quest where you can either burn down a farm infested with fire or make the forest off limits. Didn't know the right one to pick but got everyone mad when I picked to close it off. Also maybe I'm asking too much but I wish the armor looked different instead of all looking like the same plate armor. Like the Dawnguard armor just looks like the plate armor. The music is really relaxing though, reminds me of oblivion

      I totally get where you're coming from! It's tough when the choices aren't clear, and it can definitely affect your experience. Hopefully, future updates will offer more variety in armor design too! I agree, the music is really nice

    This game is not for everyone but love it. Hope they add more stuff similar to fallout shelter

    I enjoyed it way better than Fallout Shelter, mainly for the flavor and environment. The ruling events were really fun but like others have said repeat very often. It's actually funny, if you choose the most "socialist" choice, it's very easy to keep your entire populace (both races and class levels) happy and healthy. Probably the most annoying part for me was the material gated behind the fight quests (which was the most boring and repetitive part of the game for me). Finding out i needed to finish 50 (50!) quest missions before unlocking steel ingots made me quit very fast. All in all: a fun, albeit repetitive, time suck.

      I totally get what you mean! It feels like they really wanted to test our patience with some of the games' quest demands. That sounds daunting, and I don't blame you for quitting.

    It is fun at first, gwts repetitive pretty fast, but it is early days. Amd just like fallout shelter i can see that more will come to this game. It definitely needs much more depth as it is very easy right now. Needs more customisation options, added features, and more variety of choices. Id hope they dont move to a pvp mode at any point as it would kill off a lot of players that dont pay to play. But as for now its fun, it definitely isnt a pay to win game, everything is easy to get, upgrade and level up early days. Level 63 and haven't spent a penny or a gem. If it improves drastically id be willing to support it financially.

      That's what I was thinking! I've heard a lot of people saying it's pay-to-win, but I hadn't had any issues personally (I am still low-level though). Just needing to spend more time dedicating to the game, and that's fair if that's something that people don't want to do. I don't personally love PVP so I hope it doesn't shift to that, here's to hoping that you can continue to enjoy the game (for free, too!)

    I just wish I could choose which land I was starting in. However, it makes me now want such a feature built into ES6. The game overall is great, but I don't like is if supposed to be Hammerfell. Should be mostly just Redguards. Which man I have so many Orcs. Ironically, the recent ruler is Breton mainly due to a Breton killing the Imperial ruler who started the game. Which I didn't realize that if you make someone mad enough they will kill you. That was so unexpected. So I liked the idea that your character legit could be killed at any given point if someone didn't like you at all. It would be interesting to see that thrown in as a mechanic. Perhaps start off as an adventure, but this time one who actually settles into the lands we will be living in for 6. The player then even with god mode on they can still be killed as it is a cut scene in the event that character has come to hate you and you hadn't killed or exiled them. Which, my first ruler was pretty bad. I had people working as their ghost. So they couldn't even get time off if they died.
