Friedman BE-OD or Smallbox pedal....WHY NOT BOTH!!
Amazing performance! Musically and cinematic 🎉
Thanks for watching🙏
Nice riffs dude.
Thank you!
Lynch is a free animal
Lynch
David Gilmore...
Sarcasm. I like it!
George Lynch
Nice review and playing! I've got the JEL 20 head and love it, but this would be nice to have for portability reasons.
Thanks Nick. Love your videos too!
really been looking at the the IRX and IRJ both are killer ,I have to say by far your demos are the best I have seen ,you just show so how the pedal can be Manipulated into your own sound ,thanks man think im definately sold ,and thankyou Dave Friedman for giving us these great devices ( he dosnt call them pedals ) and rightly so !!!!!1
Glad the demos helped you make a decision! Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it.
Wow...that sounds amazing!!!
Love your playing and phrasing!
Thank you so much for your kind words🙏
Amazing tone and playing. That was savage
Thank you🙏
Does it have more low end than the IRX? Love my IRX but find it a bit lacking in low end sometimes
Thanks for watching. No it doesn't have more. About the same. It definitely has more high end with the bright switches.... But again if you're playing by yourself, I could see you missing the low end but in the context of a mix it's perfect.
Beginning was great, but the fretboard wankery was nauseating. C'mon man, it's music not athletics.
He’s playing Jake E Lee 80’s style licks demoing the JAKE E LEE pedal! WTF did you expect, BB King?
Thank you🙏
Fretboard wankery is my thing. Thanks for watching.
Very much considering this amp, but how does it hold up on a live situation without miking?
I haven't played it out with a band, but I have turned it up to stage commune for a short time... With ear plugs of course and it sounds incredible.
WOW!
George has always been my #1 influence and favorite guitar player! What I love about his playing is it takes you places. It brings you up and then drops you out of that plane and you're going on a ride listening to him! Another part of his playing that I find vastly different than many others is his use of inflections he adds in his playing. He always adds that little bit of spice to every note that you don't see much in others.
You are so right on about George!!
@TavaresProject thanks!
That intro... Holy cow! How does this channel not have thousands more subscribers?
Thanks so much for the kind words.
@TavaresProject you're welcome!
Killer playing, also love that mini board you've got made up. What is that JHS pedal on it?
Thank you!...Yes it is. Great price and does a great reverb...I put it on there for the shimmer effect. The halo "reverb" brilliant.
I have some Tik Tacs if you need them!😂
The bottles not big enough😂
@TavaresProject I'll spring for an extra pack😁
Thanks for putting this together. Very helpful. Just picked up a Friedman JJ Jr.
My pleasure. Thank you for watching the kind compliment. Cheers?
I really like the reverb it sounds good
Is this an original song?
Yes it is.. Thanks for watching
@TavaresProject it's incredible man
@jacobatkins4950 thanks man. I appreciate it.
vs IRX which one do you prefer?
IR-J is closer to the tone in my head that I want
But both are excellent!!! And I will keep both.
@@TavaresProject thanks for the reply!! I would buy the JEL model!!!!
@@Lam.C.U I highly recommend it.
Friedman stuff is good but WAY overpriced.
It's definitely worth it to me. I love this unit
Having a modded 800 in the 80’s would have been like a dream come true to me, so it seems like a bargain to me, especially being Friedman, the dude is a legend.
@@johnmcmahonBXLA same here!
Congrats bud
Thank you🙏
Yeti vs Pink Taco 20 V2? Thoughts and differences? Sounds really close to me but wondering on the power tube side…
Yes actually I agree... There are very similar in sound. I should do a video to compare them... I'm curious myself with a side by side.... Thank!
Love the song!!!! Awesome video!
Awesome video!!!!
that is one sick song! lead reminds me of "can i play with madness" iron maiden.
Thanks so much. Last week I started turning it into a full song. Cheers
I would love to see the PT-20 V2 up against the JEL 20 amp.
Me too. Unfortunately I don't have a JEL20... But I did just get the IR-J.... Which should be the same... Maybe I'll do that.
Sounds great. What backing track is this?
Thank you. It's one of my original songs
Would this Freidman Smallbox pedal (or Dirt Shirley) be a good boost pedal, similar to the BOSS SD-1?
I guess you could use this as that but it's not meant to be used as such. It's an amp in a box.
You’ve got some background grounding noise or something causing noise in those rhythm tracks.
Could be... Where did you hear it? Is it where I'm going back and forth between the tracks?
Sounds great!
🙏
If you crank the mids on the PT, doesn't it come close to the JJ?
Oh yes... The PT has lots of mids
Great demo. I'll be putting the Aldrich set in my ESP Eclipse 1 CTM soon 🤟
Absolutely LOVE the tone you create using either!! I just picked up a used JJ jr at Guitar Center. Didn’t even stop to play it before I took it home…. But when I finally plugged it in, nothing but unmanageable high end?? No low end at all?? Is this an easy fix with new tubes??? Any input is greatly appreciated!!
It's el84 so I'm not sure what else you could put in there. Have you reached out to Dave Friedman? He's really good at getting back to people.
I hope they will come out with a Jerry Cantrell and a Jake E Lee version of these.
I've said I want a jel model so many times on the forum they must be sick of me saying 😁
If we assume it's all a modded versions of Marshalls.. I guess JJ is closer to a JTM45 and Taco closer to plexi. I'm strickly talking in terms of the focus on highs/mid-highs. But hell what do I know.
The PT to me is a suped up 800... The JJ I don't find like anything else. Marshall in tone? Yes but more compressed.
Love it!! Play more
Thank you🙏
whats the name of this song?
It doesn't have a name... It's just a little intro I came up with.
@@TavaresProjectsick riff!
Glad to see you’re getting killer tones out of that Yeti. I waited 12mo during the Covid sh!t-storm, only to have my Yeti 50 show up borderline DOA. Several bad tubes, that I had to purchase myself, due to Nic not having them in stock. And, it put such a bad taste in my mouth, that I just sold it, without playing it for even 20min. Such killer sounding amps if you’re not having to deal with that. Come to find out, that happens more often than it should. But, i digress…. You’ve got an amazing ear for tone, my friend. You’re a joy to listen to.
Thank you for the kind words🙏. Sorry you had to go through that.. I hope you give Nic and the boys another chance.. Such a great amp.
@@TavaresProject Yeah....given that it's next to impossible to find a bad word about these amps (at least on TH-cam) I'd like to think it was just some rotten luck. I purchased mine solely due to all the great videos. And, yes, there are a couple of models I may have him build now that I've had enough time to get that taste out of my mouth. 👍
This is interesting…. Because you did a recent video of your LP with Dough Aldrich pups into the JJ jr, and got tones out of it, that were nothing short of magical, but sounds absolutely nothing like any other JJ jr demo on TH-cam. That recent video actually reminded me of an SLO. It was the quintessential classic hard-rock ultra-percussive, mid-focused, tone that I thought the new PT V.2 would sound like. I’m still scratching my head over how you got that amp to sound like that. And, the tone in this demo was good, but not nearly as good as that recent demo. I personally never liked the JJ jr….too dark, and fizzy in almost every circumstance. But, if I could get the tone you got out of it with your recent video, I’d trade my Little Sister in tomorrow. I was already considering trading it in for the JEL 20. I just love the simplicity of the LS, but it does fall just a hair short of that killer 80’s punchy tone you nailed with the JJ jr in that video. In almost every video I’ve heard, the JJ jr seemed too fizzy, a bit dark, and the PT V.2 seemed too thin. But, holy f**k did you get magical tone out if your JJ jr in that video. Would love to see how you had it dialed in, and if those Aldrich pups truly make THAT much of a difference.
So I think it comes down to the IR for the difference in sound from video to video... The comparison video I had to pick something that would be focused for both amps. For the Aldrich pickups video I just went with the proper IR that I thought was suited for that song... I'll have to look up what I used for each one of the vids and I'll get back to you. IRs make a huge difference.... As well as some pickups make a very big difference in tone and sound, But probably to a lesser extent
@@TavaresProject I'll look forward to hearing what you think the difference was. I'm really close to picking up a set of the Doug Aldrich pups for my LP. I'm not a hot pickup guy (I think they lose punch, and get fizzy). But, those sounded amazing, and it's the 3-4th video I've seen where they sound stellar. There are a very small handful of guys who have a GREAT ear for tones, you being one of maybe 3-4 guys (that I know of). And, the guys who are good at pulling the best sounds out of these amps, also know the importance of playing the right riffs to demonstrate that tone. It's a real pleasure to watch/listen to you. You get tones out of amps that I had no idea were capable. It's tough these days, because, I don't go into big-box stores anymore. Being older, I remember when those stores were run by pro's. So, the treatment you get when going to them is intolerable. So, listening to the guys who are really good at dialing in amps (and also great players) are what I rely on. That's an unnecessarily long way of saying your videos are incredibly valuable, as much as they are entertaining. So, thank you for taking the time.
@@phillamoore157 hey. So on the Doug Aldrich pickup video in the mix on the rhythm guitars I used an old two notes pack he had called big Harry number 33 IR. I just go through the mix and just audition a bunch of IRs to make sure which one sound the best in that mix. But his whole pack sounds amazing. Now the lead guitar on that same video I used what he calls Michael Nielsen's TH-cam cab and it's the same cab that I use when I was just playing by myself during the demonstrations.
And now for the IR on the comparison video of the JJ and the PT I used from the same big hairy cab IR pack a combination of an m greenback plus a V30 57. Now I picked this one because the PT prefers the greenback and the JJ prefers vintage 30s and since I could only use one IR for both amps I went with something as middle of the road as possible. I do think that the JJ prefers a vintage 30s over green backs.
@@TavaresProject That's interesting. And, you truly think it's the IR's that got that killer throaty, mid-focused, punch on the Aldrich pup demo? Thank you for sharing!
This is the second video with the Aldrich Pickups that sounds absolutely exquisite. I had NO idea the JJjr could sound like that. I'd be interested in hearing that amp with a set of standard pups. I'd love to know how you got that amp to sound that tight. Literally every other video I've heard it's fizzy. I know the pups are obviously a huge part of it, but they can only do so much. This just beautiful.... Very well done
Sounds great man. I have this pickup in the bridge of my guitar ( A Suhr SSV in the neck ) and it certainly screams.
Killer tone!!
Very nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
I’d have to go with the evh 6L6
I had one but not sold on it... But still a nice amp.
@@TavaresProject I keep going back to it ,although I started using the stealth recently. I’m gonna go check out a Runt Friedman , but I think I prefer a Marshall. We will see
@@TavaresProjecti like a little more blues rock to my sound anyway.Freidmans are definitely 80’s hair metal imo
@@vonholland64 actually if you prefer Blues Rock.... The dirty Shirley from Friedman is that JTM Marshall sort of thing. The EVH channel 2 works perfect for what you describe but the channel definitely not... That is metal all the way. 😂
@@TavaresProject red channel? Yes I use it for heavier stuff Leads etc. do the vh songs Black Sabbath n stuff with red channel. It is funny that I’m addicted to gear lol and always studying amps lmao 🤣 I had a studio vintage and just didn’t want to add more pedals to the board to get what I wanted out of it. So I figured the evh is 3 amps in one
I got the jj it has a very distinctive sound but the sound is there whatever you do with the knobs, it is great instant good sound, but also kind of 1 trick sounding, on its own itis very mid heavy almost boxy, but in th emix you will allways be heard. Thats my thoughts afte a few e Weeks still getting used to it though.
Awesome! Have the amp and just ordered the bridge version of this pickup today, unbeknownst to this review!
You're a wise man 😂. You're gonna love it. Sick combination!
