Kelly Thompson sounds like she has a lot on her plate (as we all do in this current economic and political climate). Here is some food for thought if she takes the time to read this: No one wants personal takes of legacy characters. They are well established and defined. Despite what editorial freedom you've been given, this is commercial work and as such you're writing for an audience that is entirely familiar with the character and buy comics and other products based on that familarity. I am looking forward to reading Absolute Wonder Woman based on Wonder Woman and the world she inhabits even if it's a spin on her character. I am still expecting Diana in a new setting. Same goes for Scarlet, Thor, She-Hulk, Zatanna and the like. Always approach legacy knowing it's the character that is selling the book not you as a writer. If you nail the character the fans will cheer you. This is why Skybound is doing so well with the Energon Universe. I do enjoy your Black Cloak, but the characters are new and they're yours to play with as you see fit and readers are allowed to be taken for a ride, though, realize at some point (say 50 to 100 issues in) fans of your work will know the characters just as well as you. So, if you do something out of character, you might receive feedback or criticism that you don't favor, but this is easier to manage as it's YOUR book. YOUR voice. YOUR vision (along with your creative team). I think if you learn to become more personable, not be overly defensive about the work, you will find much more success. Eisner award nominations might mean something to a potential publisher, but not to readers. I say Crowdfund your own IP...but make sure you bring the fans onto YOUR SIDE when committing to commercial work. Don't worry about pleasing your peers and patting one another on the back. They don't pay your bills. Deliver exceptionally fun and entertaining stories and Your audience will. And they will continue to show up for the next one. This will ensure that you do not die poor. Good luck.

I'm not familiar with Kelly Thompson's work. However, I'm too much of a fan of WW to not check out this title, but listening to this left me disappointed. I thought the archeologist/Tomb Raider idea where it was her collecting or defeating old world artifacts/creatures in a Darkseid energy infused DCU sounded a lot better than WW from hell. Also, why hell? Why do they have to go so dark with it. I'm hoping "hell" is more a metaphorical dimension with monsters or something than actual hell. It sounds more like she tried to make a WW that's a combo of the Scarlet Witch and Magik. I think it's a commentary that DC doesn't know what to do with WW in any universe.

Love the interview. Excited for Absolute universe and have all 3 on my Pull-list. Good luck to all involved with making it a fun ride and hopefully a success.

Ok. So I'm going to buy this Conan. But,..are they going to make complete sets with him? Will they also be making the damsels in his paintings? And the enemies he's fighting? Conan by himself is just an incomplete scene. I think Conan fans like me are really dying for more.

Not liking it

I’m cautiously optimistic about this relaunch. It seems like they're trying to stay in Twitter's good graces, but also trying not to alienate older fans like the 2017 reboot did.
