City Center Mall in Columbus, OH. Christmas 1992. Scenes from a mall.
I miss the City Center Mall.
damn, it's officially over. They demo'd city today, it's gone.
I was about 5-9 going here with my mama and my big sister. We had so much fun! No one in their right mind even thought of a bomb or being shot at. It’s so sad what became of malls and America. :( my mom got her first nursing job at Grant Medical center and she would take us here all the time. I loved the Bugs bunny store and Sbarro.
Subscribed! Thank you for posting! So many memories that are fading and this vid brings them back, vividly!! Can I use this for a documentary?
Why is no one fat? 😮
My left ear loved that
Only Southridge looks like that 2 days before Christmas other then that weekdays when school year there is 10 people there max and no one goes into the stores, weekends are better you get a decent amount of people, summer when no school it’s like the weekends or barely any people… most of the stores are filed at Southridge but people don’t shop there they go to Mayfair or Brookfield Square mall where literally it’s basically all dead mall only half of stores left there same for bayshore and the grand avenue mall closed and is just a city center for stuff these days and northridge is still abandoned after 22 years…
I was at that event. That brings back so many memories. In 1986 I bought my Haro Spot from Eastland Schwinn and I still have it to this day!
My oldest got her 1st picture with Santa here when she was almost exactly one year old. Sadly the mall closed less than 4 years later and was demolished about 5 years later
Great throwback! But Columbus Commons is a great replacement!

damn... the feels
Another Columbus Ohio landmark getting the shaft. What a waste, the mall was very short lived. Columbus City Council is a joke, matter of fact the whole city of Columbus is collapsing. The schools have major issues, crime all over downtown and the OSU campus area, and on top of it, downtown Columbus was destroyed by rioters during spring of 2020, then the corrupt Mayor turned around and blamed the Columbus Police for the actions of the rioters. Has to be one of the most corrupted cities in America.
It’s painful. They’ve become soft with crime and rioters will make anyone shot by cops a hero. So many fatherless kids are popping out left and right and winding up no better than their parents. I miss those easy days, our money had more worth and times weren’t so confusing. Police were allowed to do their job and you didn’t have to carry a gun when going to get groceries. What happened?
I only went to this mall twice as a kid, but I have good memories of it. I was in a multimedia course in school and the teacher would take us to "business professionals of america" field trips. I couldn't have cared less about that, besides the excuse to get out of school for a day. The real highlight was that the teacher would let us leave the meeting area when it was over and wander around downtown by ourselves. Kind of a weird decision on his part but I loved it! I ended up heading over to the City Center Mall both times I went on the field trip and it was so much fun. I felt so grown up going to the mall by myself for the first time. I ordered from the chinese restaurant and ate on the big staircase. I looked at all the stores and shopped a bit with my allowance. I had gone to malls plenty of times before that with my family, but it's different when you're on your own for the first time. City Center gave me my first taste of independence. I'll never forget it for that!
I can’t recall the store name but love the cinnamon roll and pretzel
Cinnabon
I rember going this as a kids bring back many memories
We had a City center in Minneapolis. Long time ago
The glass elevators! The decorations, the choir, Lazarus! It was such a wonderful atmosphere. Thanks for sharing.
When people were genuinely happy - not just on meds to make them happy. <3 (I actually wasn't happy at that time. I was in Catholic school).
Nowadays, the vast majority of people I know are either on those meds or have a substance abuse problem! Where did society as a whole go wrong???
All the white people - lol.
They still have malls like this in Japan.
Prices on the merchandise and rent for the tenants and no place to park killed this mall...Was sad to see it go
No, black gang shootouts killed it.

Thanks for sharing. Reminds me of my Christmas Eve shopping dashes :D. 90% sure that the woman crossing closest to the camera 3:23-3:24 is my Mom! :)
Oh wow!
I THINK I MIGHT CRY😧 IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL WHEN IT OPENED, I WENT THERE OFTEN,LAZARUS AND MARSHALL FIELD'S 😧 SADLY SOMETHING WENT TERRIBLY WRONG.
Thank you for sharing!
Back when you could stand close to someone and not think smoky COVID smh. I use to love city center. I’ll be 28 this month and looking at this feels like yesterday
Good times!!! I wish I could go back there.
28 years later, security cameras in the mall still have the same quality of footage. Thanks for sharing.
I was one of the managers at Sbarro's in '06-'07 not long before the mall closed...
That was my go-to for lunch!
This makes me sad how malls aren't like they were during my childhood. I still always make sure I do most of my Christmas shopping at a mall or any brick and mortar store.
If only I could still do that. The brick and mortar shops in my area often don't have what I want or need. And when you’re under a deadline(like during the holidays), you’re forced to order it online anyway.
I worked at City Center in 2000-2001 while I was in college at Columbus State. Good memories.
That is EXACTLY how I remember it as a kid. I can still smell Cinnabon lol. My two favorite stores to go into were WB, and the great train store. Usually, we'd see Santa at Lazarus, then head over to the mall to do some shopping. Great times. It was really a shame that it didn't make it. Tuttle, Easton, and Polaris killed it. People had no reason to come downtown anymore.
Oh man, I forgot about the WB store!
