DO LASERS ON HANDGUNS MAKE SENSE?

Recently, I've heard several new concealed carriers ask about the benefits of lasers on carry guns. For the longest time, I dismissed a relic of 90s action movie nostalgia. Then, after being in situations where carrying an optimal EDC wasn't as practical, I realized that there might still be some value here. Sticky Holsters for my Taurus 856 (6-shot) and Smith & Wesson bodyguard .38 special (5-shot) pistols for the reasons you discuss.
S&W bodyguard 2.0 and a Vedder pocket holster is a great comfortable combo I’ve been carrying everyday!
My problem is that I’ve always wanted to carry AND not print at all. I’m a bit paranoid about being called out. Seems that every method out there can mask a firearm but very few actually make it disappear. Same goes specifically for pocket carry. I don’t wish to look like I’m carrying a fat wallet in my pocket. I want to look like I don’t have ANYTHING in my pocket. Sadly, I’ll keep working on it.
Absolutely agree. I’ve always been into firearms, but my career has always lead me into circles where that is generally considered odd or weird. At worse, it could potentially impact my career negatively. I enjoy what I do so I’m not about to just drop my career, but it does mean I will not share that part of my life and interests with co workers. I’ve encountered some ccw folks who are like “just quit your job” or “I would never work at a place where I couldn’t carry”. But see, I actually LIKE my job and my career. So I’ll just deal with it. It’s not just about carry at work. Your coworkers are also your social circle and the places they like to hang out. It really does matter
I recently picked up a bone tactical ghost knife it’s ceramic and 100% non-metallic and it is razor sharp and I really like it. I haven’t really thought much about G 10 but I’m getting there. There are a few profiles that I think are pretty cool, but I like the sharpness of the ceramic.
You ought to investigate the .32 H&R Mag snubbies. They give you 6 rds of capacity and the caliber is no slouch for power.
I'm friends with the guys who made the UC happen. It's tempting, but I'm not sure there's enough performance upgrad from my LCR 22 and M&P 340 to justify the expense.
5-shot leather. I have several
Do basically like a wethepeopleholsters but with actual quality good to know the for the video
If anything this video has solidified my plan to get a slab of G10 and duplicate a clinch pick. Making an additional non metallic sheath would be an issue but still might be a fun project.
I'm currently testing a Clinch Pick style blade from Revenant.
@ I feel like I saw it after watching this, my only gripe was the sheath was seemingly much larger than the clinch pick. I’m looking for something for horizontal appendix carry and size makes a difference on how comfortably I can wear it. Looking forward to seeing a possible review on the Revenant.
@NullAndVoided feel free to DM me on FB/IG and I can send you photos
Ruger LC9s in the Desantis pocket holster.
Why pepper spray & firearms in the same pocket?
Because I'm right-handed, and I don't envision a situation where I would need or want both tools in hand simultaneously.
Check out the Ace Of Spades knife. Plastic simple flat and cheap.
A method I've used to attach belt clips to kydex and or plastic sheaths is double faced tape. Simple mounting tape works good.
Cold Steel has Grivory knives.
And pretty obviously designed by someone that's never actually hit anything with it. The rectangular profile of the grip is awful. I stick with products from companies that understand the use case.
Two things I’m surprised you didn’t mention: 1) a laser is a good training device for doing things like seeing your muzzle movement upon your trigger press or the muzzle’s path during your presentation to target. 2) lasers can be visible at times when the iron sights on those little small pistols are not. The he irons can be visible at times when the laser is not visible. They compliment each other well for.
1) I'm not a fan of this personally because it can encourage "prairie dogging", and distracts from learning to read your sights to the same effect. 2) In my mind that falls under the overall sight visibility. With better sights, if there's sufficient light for PID then they'd be silhouetted against the target. (Same reason I don't find much use for night sights outside of a duty context)
In retrospect, would you have consented to that search?
It wouldn't have mattered. Declining would have resulted in the same outcome.
Never had my Kel-Tec P32 lock up like that, but your info helps me to be aware of it if this should ever happen, thank you Sir. THE SARGE
Happy to help. It's not guaranteed to happen, i just want folks to know what's possible.
Your explaination is that going into a pocket will not raise a flag as criminals think you're pulling out the stuff. It is very compelling as the criminal would likely think you're just reaching for your belongings to give to them instead of lifting a shirt to draw from 12 to 6 o'clock positions. It seems to give the element of surprise. Just bought one for a small hammerless frame.
I've seen this happen with other firearms, where the shooter felt it was necessary to "redesign" their firearm by adding all this aftermarket stuff. Firearms were designed by the engineers to run without having to replace OEM with all of this other stuff. Glocks are able to run just fine without having to replace the Glock parts that come with the factory parts. Change back to the OEM parts and see if the problem continues.
The only non-OEM parts on this gun are the trigger shoe, disconnector, and backplate. OEM Trigger Bar OEM Slide Stop OEM Springs OEM Magazines Not to mention this exact combination of parts has been good for thousands of rounds of training classes, matches, & practice sessions. The only new variable was the ammo.
In a non-permissive environment, pocket-carry is the only concealable option. The Karens always "win" among the Hoplophobes in my Blue State. "He's got a gun! He's got a gun!"
It depends on the nature of the environment. If it's your place of employment, you can be subject to search.
My last corporate job, we couldn't even have guns locked in our cars. No guns on company property nor while on company business.
Bodyguard v1 .380 semi-auto in a kydex Alabama pocket holster. With LAPG operator tactical shorts/pants I can pocket my shield v1 9mm also in an Alabama kydex holster.
Since you can reach the handle without moving your right arm, then instead of raising the left arm to, why dont you use it to squeeze the holster then pull the gun.
The left arm comes o in that elbow shield to reduce the risk of flagging your own arm on the draw.
Great video!! And information brother!!😎looking now for one for my soon to arrive sr1911🤓
Glad you found it helpful, hope you enjoy the new 1911!
My sincere thanks for your clear, concise presentation of the matter. My prayer is that you are able to fully rebuild your relationships with your family members. One of the most important life lessons I learned some 50 years ago when I began my "professional" career (add another 12 years to my total working life) is keep your work life separate from your family and social life. What happens in the home stays in the home and vice versa.
It's important to be thoughtful about how our choices impact loved ones.
Tough to follow because so much random stories unrelated to the topic
I got blocked by a Facebook survival group because I told fate old ladies who were also really dumb that wasp spray isn't a good option for self-defense. Also, I said those byrna pepperball "guns" are dumb.
... rightfully so. If the goal is to educate people on better options, then insulting & denigrating them isn't a good way to get your point across.
@TheSuitedShootist Nope. I tried being nice, and they laughed at me, "they drew first blood, not me"
@TheSuitedShootist Nope. Logic and well presented facts mean nothing in Facebook conversations. Try telling 100 morons that police can't shoot someone in the arm, coming at them with a knife. After awhile, you just need to tell them that they're stupid. This way, you help someone who's lurking and might be inclined to seek advice from trained people.
I love your holster. What price are we talking about?
It's part of the Monarch shoulder holster from Andrews Custom Leather. A good quality leather holster is going to easily run $150+
The greatest must have snubby is the Smith and Wesson 340 pd unbelievable performance from this snubby a must get gun
Great video. I usually carry my Taurus Poly Protector 38 in a Comfortband. Dress or casual slacks with an elastic waist easily allow this and the revolver fits very nicely under a polo.
I’ve been carrying since 1990 and have tried every carry option known lol. Although I am a “gun guy” and love all things firearm, I’ve finally come to the hard realization that I actually hate carrying. But I do it anyway of course. I don’t want to hate it and I’ve spent thousands trying not to. I’ve tried every option including custom and semi custom appendix rigs, bands, SOB, 3 o’clock, ankle…everything. I have a nice appendix rig, a hip holster, a shoulder holster and a high quality gun belt for each of my pistols in rotation to customize for any given situation but I carry in Miami Classic shoulder rigs almost exclusively. It’s the one method I can tolerate. Especially when my wife and I travel…I simply can’t deal with anything else in a vehicle. And to be fair, I don’t really “enjoy” the shoulder rigs either. They’re beautiful to look at, more tolerable to wear for me personally, but they still suck too. But as has been said, we don’t carry to be comfortable.
I have a 43c and 642 I bought the set without the clip to see if there any good .if I like the grip I will order the full set and an extra clip .i love the three finger grip on my 63 I took it off my performance center 642 and put it on the 63. It’s slippery but sure shoot nice single shot with a heavier pistol. I think I get mine on Monday or Tuesday we’ll see. I should’ve ordered the whole set the guys that do. This are pistol, revolver, experts, and it looks like he put a lot of time and thought into these grips. I didn’t know he copied somebody else’s style, but hey. 75.00 for a full set that’s hard to justify when you’re on Social Security disability
These look nice but I’d rather just appendix carry using a shorter jacket.
Even a short jacket can be a challenge unless it's got an elastic waist, like a bomber. Everything is a tradeoff. Sometimes having a less optimal pistol that's more accessible makes more sense than digging you're AIWB pistol out from several layers.
Yes, that’s a good option too! I’m just not sold on these grips and changing your holster options when indoors & outdoors. Plus I don’t like your revolver not being in some sort of holster. Even though a negligent discharge is a minor issue.
@kylewood8327 it's not for everybody
Just put one of these on my LCR … I tuck it at 4oclock on my waist band inside a stick holster and it’s comfy and disappears and easily accessible
Allowed to and able to are completely different things you are always able to carry . Carry every single day wherever you go the only thing that should stop you is a metal detector.
That's not always a feasible or successful strategy
that’s a pretty cool piece of equipment however, the one drawback to deep concealment of any kind for any tools is that it makes them less accessible. My thoughts on the issue is don’t go places where guns aren’t allowed and don’t give a shit what people think. And carry your tools in such a way that they are easily accessible for you when you need them.
Sooner > Faster. Access matters, but everything is a balance. If my optimal defensive setup is to overt, or forces me to dress in a way that's not situationally appropriate, then it's not necessarily the best option. One of the main goals of concealment is to reduce & avoid social friction. "Not giving a shit what people think" is a rather antisocial attitude that can cause issues of its own. "Don't go places guns aren't allowed" means telling the kids "sorry, we can't go to Disney" or not going with friends or a spouse to their favorite concert. People's priorities still always differ. I prefer to not let the firearm be the deciding factor.
i use mine (4 of them) all the time
if you’re going to carry a gun every single day, regardless of where you go, which is what you should be doing, if you’re going to carry on the waist line, simply go up one size in your jeans and they will fit perfectly fine or two sizes up if necessary. The only thing that should stop you from carrying gun is a metal detector..
Life is rarely that simple.
Are you wearing your pants above your belly button? I thought only women and 80+ year old men did that.
No. I'm short torsoed. I wear my pants at my natural waist. With full rise pants, this means the waistband sits just below my navel. Most dudes wear their pants too low on their hip bones. You know, the way chicks did in the 90s.
For the handy person, a cut-to-fit piece of kydex or even thin plastic cutting board might work.
These are thinner & more flexible
A pocket knife in a pocket does not create social friction. Only a mainstream media-trained human could do that.
People's experiences vary.
I like that jacket
It's the Talisman from Triple Aught Design
Man beside Spegel being some cash put all that a side it is I think 2 or 3 year waiting list for Craig Spegel to make you a set. Ryan's grips ( Spegel and AFR grips) are the best I have got rid of all my VZ on my J frame's for Hamre Forge boot grips.
629 performance center snubnose all day everyday.
Been thinking about a Diamondback SDR lately, they're supposed to be j-frame compatible. So I'll definitely be checking these out. Love the covered backstrap...
Hey, my friend... I've also been thinking about the SDR but have you looked into the Kimber K6xs? I have one. It became my EDC. It replaced my SW J frame (638). It carries almost the same. Six round cylinder instead of five and it has an orange dot for the front sight. The trigger is sweet and allows you to stage a shot. I never thought my SW J frames would be replaced but the K6XS did. Just thought I'd throw that at ya!
Yeah, if he’s getting a Diamondback anything, he’s ordering off the right side of the menu…
