Hello fellow travellers! Welcome to our channel, Mooki Moves.
We are the ballies (South African slang for 'the elderly'), Tracy and Ken.
And Mooki is our van that Ken built himself.
Mooki stands for Moksha. This is a term in Hinduism and Buddhism for Liberation and Release.
Which is what this new life is all about for us.
We’ve sold our home that we built for over 26 years, and are now entering an entirely new journey -
Van life.
Which is scary. Because we over 55 years old!
But, anything is possible.
We’re in a space of surrender - letting go.
So whether you are a Lighty (South African slang for 'young person') or a Ballie,
if this is an adventure you've been seeking, stick with us as we traverse South Africa.
We want to share our authentic experience with you.

Meet the ‘ballies' - South African slang for ‘ageing mother/father.
We are Tracy (age 59) and Ken (age 64).
Why is our age important to share?
Because we sold our home and gave up City life for one of our greatest adventures yet - van life.
Our quest for a simpler, more sustainable lifestyle.
We bought an old van which Ken converted and transformed himself,
Mooki.
We were scared shitless, but us ballies have had many years of practicing tenacity, grit, courage, and humour.

Coming from tropical Durban, Travelling the Western Cape in Winter is next level madness!
This adventure has been a roller coaster of emotions, challenges, and laughter!

From the sunny Durban, in KwaZulu Natal, we headed to Underberg, a space of solitude, surrounded by mountains.
Moving along the coastline, our next destination was Morgans Bay, and then Port Alfred.
From Port Alfred we headed to the wonderful forests of Tsitsikamma, Knysna and then Wilderness.
Our next adventure led us to Bontebok National Park and then Swellendam.
Finally reaching the karoo, we made it to Barrydale.
After all we had experienced, we had to sit with a very deep question...
Do we want to continue with van life?

A flowing river continues changing its shape and speed, it will never go back to the way it was.
Everything on this earth is the same as a river.
Reminding us that the only thing in the universe
that will never change,
is,
the fact that everything changes constantly.

Wow, amazing story. Life is so hard sometimes, its not for the fainthearted. But if you don't go for it, you have nothing to show for it. I hope this is an amazing adventure for you and I hope you also have peaceful times ahead too. I've just bought an old camper home. I am looking to travel SA over the next few years. I share a house with my disabled partner, but I have an autistic son of 33 and I want to travel with him part time. My various mechanics (so far) think I'm crazy. I just feel that if I don't do it I will be empty. I still have some life to live and places to see.
I just found your channel and started watching your videos and there's something very pure about the storytelling and editing. I don't know if it's because of your age, but the way you tell stories and bring us along your journey is almost nostalgic. And I mean that in the most positive sense. In a world where everyone's attention span has been reduced to a mere few seconds and all you can find are flashy, empty, inauthentic vlogs of (mostly) young people chasing their ego, your video series is the complete opposite. Thank you for making them and chapeau on the work.
Thank you so much, Greg. really appreciated. We did these videos as a time capsule of our experiences over a very difficult time that we decided to turn it into an adventure. It certainly has been just that. We even won an award for them, which was also unexpected. Perhaps when life pushes you into a corner, you have two choices. One to crumble into it or take the "path less traveled", we decided on the later. Thanks again for your words of encouragement 🙏

Maam put Ken on CarbFree diet, health miracles follow. Im no longer on Insulin Injection, suger is controlled, gangrene gone, swelling of feet also. Meat , Vegies, cheese, fruit , nuts and other supporting edibles. Good Luck.
Hi there tks for that. Since you wrote this Ken has last 10kg but unfortunately has had many medical issues. The rest of his body has lost weight but the legs continue to grow. The weight off has helped but nothing changes this condition known as Cellulitis Lymphodema as nothing will give him back a functioning lymph which National Healthcare manged to damage during a hernia op in his 20ies

Just seen this now for the first time. Very nicely done. I will follow your journey with interest. We camp a lot with our 32 year old caravan and I have done a few videos, not nearly as good as yours, of campsites in the Western Cape.

Wow, great job. How did you go about licensing and registration, I am keen to start my own build.
Hi Hennie we bought as a registered campervan to avoid this. We heard many builds battled with Cor so we bought then stripped and rebuilt. But we have heard of many authorities that don't get that it's a normal code 8. Code 10 over 3.5T so had to watch out for this.
