    I live in a condo, where garages are for parking only (i share a garage with my downstairs neighbor), and though we have our chosen sides and my side will always be my side, i cant put a workbench out there. I mean i could, but i need the storage space and i wouldnt want to keep powertools there. So i work on my balcony. Its rough. I currently have a black and decker portable workbench that simply clamps together or opens up. The top boards are about 18x4x1. I have to put my foot on the crossbar on the legs to hold it steady. Ive been considering the pegasus. I like it, i think. Thank you for the review. Question. When you drop one side to work on vertical pieces, can that dropped side be locked? I honestly expected it to automatically lock into place when you dropped it. Its something i can rig up on it, but it just seems like a common sense thing that they would have included.

      @RichoWoodworking 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Your limited space situation is very common in North America, Europe and Australia. Some people use a second bedroom or just find space as you have on your balcony. As to your question, I just checked on the Worx Pegasus and it does not lock in the vertical position, when the one side is set down. Reason would be because you need to be able to easily lift up to get it back to horizontal position. It only locks in the table position (horizontal). Now you could use quick clamps to keep it in place, I did try that. That takes up valuable work space but for something that doesn't take up all the room it works great. You could also use straps to lock it into place with the adjacent legs. Hope that helps and keep working on your projects no matter where you can get some space.

    Just coming back from a VERY hectic summer myself and seeing the folding Lufkin ruler took me back to memories of my father who taught me so many things and left me his identical ruler which is now with my other heirloom tools going back to my Great Grandfather who taught him. Dad used the brass slider to make very accurate inside measurements for finish and trim work. Thanks for posting and reviving some happy memories.

      I think the one my Dad had was from the hardware store he bought it at, Hechingers. I don't remember seeing it among his tools when I selected what to bring back. I bet he still has it. He kept his small toolbox and tools with him when he moved to the new place so I won't get those until he passes or no longer has any use for them. And those tools that belonged to my grandmother, were bought and used by my grandfather. I've just not considered it that way since he's been gone since the mid-1980s and my grandmother lived until 97 in 2013. Her father lived to 101. My Dad could live a while as well as he had no siblings, with the longevity gene. Thanks for watching.

    • @RichoWoodworking

      If something got wet you should let it dry completely before attempting to use again. There is a reset button on the cord section. If it still doesn't work I don't have any other answers. I've had trouble getting it to work when I didn't have sufficient amperage like when using in a garden with outdoor outlets. Could be that.

    There are lots of great techniques that can be used to stabilise the bench. Such as the wall or extra support pieces. You can also use weights.

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure the wall could be used since the base is tapered down so that you wouldn't be able to rest the edge of the bench top against the wall except at either end. Doing it from the end would allow stability for planing but may prove limiting for other tasks. Definitely weights could be used. I'm in a different shop now so the logistics are slightly different. Thanks for watching.

    • @Art-is-craft
      @Art-is-craft 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RichoWoodworking I am not saying to permanently fix the bench to a wall. The wall would be one of several approaches that would be dictated by the work being done. One example is having a small shelf on a wall so that long boards can sit on both the bench and fence. There are many types of jigs that can be used as well. These are old carpentry techniques used over centuries and were most useful at construction sites. The used everything from trees to rocks and would also use posts spiked into the earth. The only limit is our imaginations.

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Art-is-craft I agree. All very good workarounds. Wouldn't work in my current workspace but someone else may be able to make it work in theirs.

    • @Art-is-craft
      @Art-is-craft 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RichoWoodworking If you own the property it would not be difficult to put a small shelf on a wall that allows you to put a plank that you are working on. The shelf can be as simple as a board screwed to a wall. I will give example that I use on a small work bench. It is a simple spacer that allows me to take my beach a sit it right up against a wall and normality I cannot plane a board that is resting against the wall so the wooden spacer creates space between the wall and plank that stops me from smashing by plane of the wall. So that means I can easily plane a full length plank/board on a light weight bench.

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've not experienced this problem before but my guess is that the remote is not accepting the new battery, thus the red light. The red light is an error code rather than a charging indication. I would suggest removing the battery and reinserting it or trying another battery, making sure it is in correctly. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    The blocks with the "V" are actually called "V-blocks". They should be a matched set. They are used to hold round parts for drilling, milling, and precision grinding. The little spanner type wrenches in the Starrett box are for "setting" or recalibrating micrometers. The mystery item #1 is a counterbore with interchangeable pilots. It's for sinking the head of a "socket head cap screw" below the surface of the part. The mystery items #6, are the the pilots the fit into the end of the counterbore to make sure it follows the original drilled hole.

    • @RichoWoodworking

      Thanks for sharing this information. I'll need to go back and rewatch to see what mystery items 1 and 6 are. I've copied your comment to my notes on the items in the chest. Every little bit of information helps. I haven't used the tap and die items as much as I thought but I have been using the files, wrenches and drill items a lot on my projects. Hey Sir. I've got a story about this kit as well. Durall had several different saws in their kits, I've found, but I happened upon one in a flea market one day and found that the saw actually fit my hand rather well. I was broke at the time, and all my tools were things I had refurbished or made, and so I saw potential in this flea market find. What I ended up doing was making a dovetail/small tenon saw out the Durall saw. I took a heavier back from an old Craftsman miter saw I had and cut it down. Actually bought some small saw nuts, and filed off the 10tpi teeth that had come on the Durall saw and refilled them back at 14tpi. Not my finest work now, but more comfortable than anything else I had at the time and razor sharp. It is still my preferred saw for dovetailing.

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Repurposing the saw sounds like a good idea. Though I probably won't alter the teeth I will probably end up using the saw that came with it for other woodworking uses as well as I probably won't be using the miter box that often for my woodworking. Thanks for watching.

      @@RichoWoodworking I bet it will work great for you. On mine, the original teeth had been stamped out, but never sharpened. You might try giving the saw a sharpen, even with the original tooth pattern. It would be a great saw to learn on, even if you've never done it before. It would work 10x better, even with just a mediocre sharpening job😁. I think those saws were made with decent spring steel, though. Mine holds a good edge on the teeth. Anyway, hope your dad's saw serves you long and well. Cheers

    I have Veritas and Lie Nielson saws. I find the Veritas less aggressive than the LN and I like the way the Veritas feels in my hand. I enjoy both brands and use them for different applications. If I wasn't a pro woodworker, I would go with the less expensive Veritas. In my opinion, they do just as good a job as any of the more expensive saws and I enjoy using them. Thanks for sharing your video.

      I agree. I had access to LN saws at my last job but I prefer the price of the Veritas for my home use. Thanks for watching.

    Hello Richo, very informative show, do you think there is a way I could put slab of beef ribs on this Pegasus to cut length wise, then cut them into short riblets, I have a hand bone saw, thanks in advance 👍

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm sure you could accomplish that on this table. Tying the slab down, possibly through the dog holes would secure it while you cut, knowing you'll be cutting the ties as you go. Thanks for watching.

    Like you, I am a primarily hand tool woodworker, mainly because when I started woodworking I was very young, and inherited many hand tools from my great grandfather and power tools were clunky (with aluminum frames), expensive and really not as necessary as we think of them today. My cordless drill was a brace and bit. Today I rarely use power tools and only have a few. Where I draw the line is shaping brass trim. I find that brass gums up my files and I spend too much time, at least for me, clearing the file teeth. I find that a Dremel type rotary tool with a grinding bit saves me a lot of time and frustration. I still use files to finish but for rough shaping the mini grinder saves time and energy. Anyway, thanks for posting. Looking forward to progress on this project.

      @RichoWoodworking 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably if I worked with brass more often I would consider getting something else to make it easier. I've held off buying a Dremmel for use in the home shop. I had one in my conservation lab that had all the bells and whistles but it was paid for by my work budget. I also had a wheel grinder which makes what I did in the video much easier. Thanks for watching. I hope to finish the project in April or May. There is a lot more to it than just the sphere part.

    Does clamping with other clamps through the dogholes work well?

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It probably depends on the clamp. Some are too wide to even fit through the hole. Due to the waffle surface beneath you would need a piece of wood to help hold the clamp in place. It isn't solid underneath.

    You don't have to plug the light into that outlet and it would be very easy to modify the light so it is integrated rather than needing an additional plug. These workbenches are great for people living in smaller impermanent situations. This one looks like it would make a perfect bicycle workstation.

      Completely agree about the light. It would be perfect for working on a bicycle. Another cool use of the workbench. Thanks for watching.

    Craftsman used a variety of tool companies as their tool subcontractors. Early on were Marion Tools, Barrows and Cahill, and early Stanley(when they were still great) and the like. Great tools. But the warranty was even better; go to a Sears store, throw your broken tool up on the counter, and go get another. The downside was that years after you bought the tool, the tool subcontractors changed....or cheapened the tools for mass marketing. So you may have gotten a new tool to replace your broken one but of lesser quality. And that continued to the end with 'limited warranties" and you had to have proof of sale etc. That's when the 'rot' really set in. I always hated their screwdrivers....their tips were just too soft for my taste. Very cool that you have all that stuff from your dad! I think that one tool in question is a faucet handle puller.....but clunkier than what we used in the trades. Yes, they had a whole line of woodworking tools; saws, planes, rasps, wood lathe tools, etc. Good stuff. Nice shape spark plug tool! Sears LOVED it when you went in drooled and over-bought...they counted on it. That's why so many tools in residential collections looked little used. In that big socket, notice the rubber insert, that's to hold onto to your spark plug. One thing I should mention is that from the time I was a kid to 20 years ago, almost every Sears tool store I went into had those table saws on display. Some stores might have had 10-15 if they had the space. I always wondered who made those for Sears and how well they held up over time?

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The table saw was definitely something my Dad didn't have. I had to look that one up. Sears was definitely the place to buy tools for many years in our town because the big box hardware stores didn't exist there yet, nor did the Internet. Some tools were also found at Monkey Wards. Thanks for watching.

      You did well to build a sturdy wooden bench. Since I'm in a more permanent shop now I may consider building a larger wooden bench to replace my current woodworking bench which I made in 2016.

    Any suggestions to add something so that I can clamp wood projects?

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This workbench isn't really meant for joinery work, however I use a bench hook for wood projects. You could also use two large F clamps to hold a long board from the sides of the bench. The edges underneath are thin so there would have to be some experimentation. I can do a little video on this if it helps. Thanks for watching.

    Did it come pre assembled? or did you have to put it together yourself? thank you

    • @RichoWoodworking
      @RichoWoodworking 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It came in a big box with the pieces and hardware included. I had to assemble the entire thing. I also had to buy some taps to thread some of the holes for the screw bolts. I had read reviews stating that the holes didn't work right with the bolts they provided. At the time Lowe's didn't sell tap and die and I had to buy the taps at a smaller hardware store. Thanks for watching. Hope this helps.
