    Why is your backhand like that? Why is it so stiff and not wrist snap? Why do you have a forehand take backhand and zero unit turn?

    Thanks for creating this video. It helped give me some perspective. I have a few questions and I would appreciate your time and expertise. 1. Did you grow up in a tennis supportive family ( such as your father was a tennis coach or pro tennis player 2. We’re you a professional tennis player? 3. What certifications did you obtain to coach? ( USPTA, PTR, ITF level 2,3)

    • @tenniswithrihards
      @tenniswithrihards 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you liked the video! 1. My family was very supportive and both, my father and my mother, were professional athletes, but not tennis players. 2. Yes. I was ATP ranked tennis player and also competed in Davis Cup once. 3. I have obtained national (I'm from Latvia) coaching qualification and also have attended different international courses.

    Whoever coined the terms unforced or forced error is unimaginable & lost: 1) No player would intentionally force his own error. (unless match-fixing) 2) All errors are unforced. So it is simply an error. Same count, same point, same score.

    • @tenniswithrihards
      @tenniswithrihards 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are also forced errors, when a player executes his shot under pressure from a difficult situation.

      I play tested 305 gram version that day. Decent racket, however I prefer wider string pattern.

  • @poida007
    @poida007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is an example of the classic problem with tennis coaching, you're told by a coach what to do and why, .... but not the how. The player needs to understand the basic physics that impact ball control and the biomechanics of how to get the body to repeat the most efficient way to do this. Perhaps you can address this and look at why most people playing struggle with their ability to control the ball to reduce unforced errors.

    • @tenniswithrihards
      @tenniswithrihards 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is tennis strategy video focusing on what to do tactically. There are other videos focusing more on technical side of tennis.

    • @poida007
      @poida007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Web Tennis Training a player cannot have "tactics" without solid technique. The reason most players make unforced errors is because of weak technique, strokes breaking down under pressure. You cannot separate the connection between tactics and technique as you seem to suggest with your video and your reply.

    • @tenniswithrihards
      @tenniswithrihards 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True! Technique is something we all need to work on all the time. However, the key word in your comment is ''solid''. The technique doesn't need to be perfect in order to to play tactically smart tennis. Solid is enough.

  • @poida007
    @poida007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not so fast. Just turning shoulders and swing??? What about your adjustment steps for each ball, your spacing from the ball, control of racket face angle, swing paths, and ....How about rotation, weight transfer, core strength, extension, timing, grip, loading, contact zone, hitting 500000 balls before you even turn 10, playing ITF tournaments, etc. etc etc..... 99% of those playing tennis have no hope of hitting even close to your level. What you demo and what you do are very different. Racket is well above your head, big loop, early separation of hands ..... take a look. Today's players top ATP players have much more compact swings than you demonstrate and hit more out of open stances.

    • @tenniswithrihards
      @tenniswithrihards 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback! It looks like you have a good knowledge about tennis. Of course, all of the things you mentioned are vital for hitting a good forehand, however in this particular video I wanted to highlight the importance of early and proper shoulder turn. My forehand is not perfect. It is a little bit stiff and loop is too big. But that is not what I am teaching to others. I suggest more compact swing as I explained in the video.

    • @tenniswithrihards
      @tenniswithrihards 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should jump as high as you need for not messing up. But as lower you jump, as better it is. Put more emphasis on moving your hand as fast as you can. I am, probably, jumping a little bit too high in this video 🙂

    If you hit on top of the ball, shouldnt it hit your feet directly?

    • @tenniswithrihards
      @tenniswithrihards 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should! But, firstly, if we imagine that the ball is a ''clock-face'', then 12 o'clock isn't on the top of top of the ball. It is a little bit on the front part of the ball. Secondly, it is very difficult to stretch your wrist in a way that you really hit the top of the ball in the middle of it :)
