BRILLIANT!! How did this board hold up! Did you vent it? looks like the inside chambers weren't connect to each other with holes. I see this is 6 years ago. Yes awesome work!
Good to have a mate that's and old school master craftsman. Cheers and aloha y'all.
S'est quoi ton bois a tu un pdf sur plant surf
Perfeito! Parabéns!!
Grandad's doing everything
good friend excellent video greetings from colombia a question as it is called the white cloth where you applied the red resin what type of fabric is it called?
I know it's been about 6 years since you built the board, but I'm just now getting around to watching the video. It's interesting how there are a lot of different techniques for building a wooden board and it's always fun to watch them go together. I enjoyed this video, and the cool thing was, that you got to do it with your Dad. SoCal.
Paul, I'm on the gold coast too. Where did you get the paulownia from? I'm hoping to make a SUP at some point
Check WoodPrix handbook if you want to make it cheaper and better.
That chunky nose looks a bit bogan mate :)
What a Beauty of a board, mate! Simply Georgous!
Hola que edad tiene el señor? es increible poder haber filmado a ese abuelo con la pasión intacta esas manos!! sin palabras muy buen video. Saludos desde Argentina.

Fantastic craftsmanship, good tips for me to build my Hollow Wood Stand Up Paddle. Thank You and good vibes from Brasil
Hey Paul, Any tips you can share about planking the W concave? Thinner strips? over lapping? I'm curious about what you've discovered!
+spacemansabs if you need paulownia wood contact me johnpeter2569@gmail.com
+John Peter hey, that would be great, but since I'm in Denmark the costs would most likely be prohibitively expensive.
+spacemansabs may i know your email id ? quantity you think you need and dimensions i will provide you the quote for reference
John is gone now but his memory lives on . Much love Ryno ❤️❤️❤️
Someone with a surfboard not want to shoot me and wants to give to facebook please #zulianny_adames
Hi Paul, Is there an alternative on paulownia and balsa wood for crafting chambered surfboards? I live in Croatia so mediterranean wood is my prefered choice if there is any usable for surfboards. Tnx
Ian Bonifačić the next lightest timber for example will be Pine which is another soft timber for ease of building . almost any light timber can be used for your board just remember the heaver the finished surfboard the sluggish will be the performance in the surf

I wish I had a Dad like yours, I had to fight with my Dad every time i went to surf growing up. I still can't talk to him
Aaron Lane sorry to here that , dont worry my dad and i disagree often but soon all is forgotten ,we both love the ocean and making anything with timber
Awesome!! I really want to make one!
Love to watch your upload, too! Especially the purple tint into the resin, I like it! I am building the same sort surfboard for my first time. Greets from Holland!
Surfrider Ameland thanks for your reply, the purple tint actually comes from the oils in the resin used in the glassing of the board cheers
Great upload but I think you should call your father John, DAD as he is your dad, You keep calling him John. Focused on the video making I think. Interesting project Great that you shared it with your dad. Great final result as well, I'm impressed with that finish.
I still can't believe your dad made that with you it's amazing! Hope you two make some more boards in the near future!
Very good work. How much did the board end up weighing in the end after glassing?
Joe , around 6 kgs total weight which is nearly twice that of a standard surfboard of same length , thanks for your inquiry , Paul
Amazing some day I hope to grow to be like your Dad!!!
Thanks for those kind words , I will let my dad know .we have made 3 hollow boards now the latest. 11 ft hollow malco sup , I will so be loading the build on the tube , Paul
How did you get the board to float did you put foam in it or something
i'm gathering my tools my wood ,plans and my son,and learn from my mistakes, Build a wood surfboard ,and build a few more ,many blessing, S.D. Cali.north county. hope she floats?thanks Paul Pops.
Good luck with your new project , my father and I have now completed 3 boards and even with a combined 100 years experience working with wood we love every minute , and still learning cheers Paul
Great video! I'm looking forward to build my own wooden surfboard! Thanks for this!
can you put link to the wed site where you got the kit from? hope thats ok
Niiiiiiiiice, I hope one day my son would build a board together with me!
Yes and it's quite a journey and I never stop learning from the old man , cheers
hey what wood did you use and do you think i could use yellow popler for the mail deck and what was that white fabric you used in the shop and what glaze was that too? im making a board in my woodworking class so i need the detals thanks for the vid
We used mainly paulownia timber , second lightest to balsa . I'm not familiar with the yellow poplar but it it's light why not . , the matting used was 4 oz fiberglass with epoxy resin , cheers Paul

I loved watching this mate!
Thanks for your comment , where on our third board now , an 11 ft Sup ji will be loading the vid on the tube , cheers
What kind of wood?
David , we used mainly paulownia and recycled red cedar , cheers
I purchased the Spline kit from the US , Wood Surfboard Supply and the paulownia 45 x 6 mm planking from Surfing Green in Queensland cheers
When the board shaping and fine tuning was completed i went to PCC Pattersons Surfboard Factory (Taren Point ) where the timber board was glassed with epoxy resin and fibreglass matting then sanded and polish finished to a high gloss.Cost varies but approx $500 for a shortboard for this finish , hope this answers your question , cheers
I'm sorry, but, that ending step. where they put the sheet over it and make put the finish on it, what is that step called and where can i get it done?
Thanks for your comments ,good luck with your board ,not all things go to plan but thats all part of the build. have fun Cheers Paul
Good luck with your SUP . im planning to make a SUP this summer ,with my dad, of course, who makes sure i dont hurry and stuff things Cheers Paul
Only just seen this email ,you are right ,may be even left with a hand surfer cheers RYNO
The Fugu fish internal spline kit was purchased on line from the US and the paulownia from the gold coast, all accessable on line. All up including the pro glass job,not much change from $1000 cheers Paul ps well worth the experience
thanks for your comments, yes my dad and myself have worked with timber all our lives ,not much with a camera ! .We have since made another hollow board with the left over timber,5ft x 20in x 2 5/8. with this board we made from scratch including the internal spline.I think with patience any one with the correct tools can make one of these boards cheers Paul
Beautiful board mate. Awesome project to share with the old man. I'd love to do this one day. You guys really looked like you knew what you were doing. Have you both had a lot of experience working with timber?
Nice job, hope to start a board this fall
Where did you buy the kit from?
Well done, super project!!! You have inspired me...think I am going to build a SUP race board. Thanks.
lucky your old man was there to help or you would have made a boggie board, a rhino
