@@hyunjinsamericano_7 of course! mixing refers to how each track in a song (e.g. vocal track, each part of the instrumental) is layered together to make it a cohesive whole. imo, a song is usually mixed well if each track/layer is clear and isn’t overpowering the others, or just sounds polished in general. with sabotage specifically, the instrumental sounds really muddy, which means it all kind of blends together so the individual layers aren’t super discernible which i don’t like. generally it’s an issue that lower budget groups/artists have, and you can hear pretty egregious examples in really nugu songs because they can’t afford to buy better produced and mixed songs where the tracks/layers are blended together well. i hope that makes sense 😭

I think listening to the actual songs along with your description would allow me to finally (hopefully) hear it lolol

@ yes definitely cause it is hard to actually recognise something music related without actually hearing it lmfao. i would recommend listening with a pair of headphones (if you have some) because it will probably be easier to discern the differences. some examples of overtly bad mixing (and just song production in general) are: - th-cam.com/video/tmtEoT_eZ4E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=x6iPCGhMVxIoaycf - with this one, the instrumental is slightly louder than the vocals which drowns them out as a result. it also just doesn’t sound super polished - th-cam.com/video/nRYCLOTRAK4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CDcoFdx84Zd4nT_p - this song (and izone’s japanese titles in general) have notoriously poor mixing. the vocals and the instrumental just don’t mesh together at all and the whole song just sounds so cheap. it’s the clearest in the chorus - th-cam.com/video/4xzJci2A6qY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7HXNDwDw3TK0yXWC - this song’s chorus just sounds so grating and it physically hurts to listen to which i highly doubt is what they were going for - th-cam.com/video/JcMPfBDUyEM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FLPILtD4BBgUdzbZ - november’s issue is less overt, but it’s really similar to sabotage in the sense that the instrumental just sounds so muddy. everything blends together and it sounds bad after a while. their vocals are also a little too quiet in the mix. the version of dreamcatcher’s justice on streaming services has this issue too where the whole song kind of sounds like it’s underwater,, i really don’t know what happened 😭 a majority of kpop songs are well mixed because they are produced and mastered by music professionals who actually know what they’re doing. songs like aespa’s supernova, fromis_9’s dm, f(x)’s 4 walls and gugudan’s the boots are some good examples. but yeah it’s mainly looking out for things like vocals being too loud or quiet, instrumentals being too overpowering, instrumentals not sounding clear enough (unless it was a stylistic choice), or just cheap sounding songs in general. it is normally pretty easy to tell if a song doesn’t sound super polished once you listen to a few examples.

@@yangyangdnithere are a lot of memorable toplines, but they still feel weak comparatively as they’re designed to grab people’s attention rather than be melodically good. but yeah i think i said this to you before, but there aren’t enough complex productions or instrumentals so there’s no reason to return to so many songs over and over. everything within then you can hear in the first few listens because they’re pretty simple and they don’t reward you for repeatedly listening to them. i’ve has similar issues with kpop over the past few years so i’m not super optimistic it will change next year, especially since current trends lean towards musical simplicity. fingers crossed though…
